Ok we need to talk about the lack of female characters!

Which I must say, all of these people who are jumping to conclusions over dumb things are starting to look more hilarious as the days pass on. But I seriously hope he does answer you back.

I've seen people who immediately think that this Kung Lao reveal means we'll have no Fujin. D'norah having a similar move towards Mileena means she's not in. Kung Lao being resurrected means every dead character will be resurrected and playable.

It boggles my mind on how so many jump the gun and really, truly finds something to complain about when there's not even concrete evidence yet to be pissed about. We have no idea how many characters we're still going to get in this game and yet there's already people complaining about the lack of females? Sure it would be nice to see one female to be revealed, but I'm not sitting here, bashing my fingers into my keyboard in frustration that there's a lack of them.

This series has always been male dominant. If I wanted to be that kind of woman and protest over the equality of how females get treated, I'd become that kind of person. But I'm not going to, because I don't see a problem, mainly because there's still time to see more reveals, and there's more time to hear an official number of characters we'll be getting for this game.

This is why I love you, Kitty. Even if the feeling isn't mutual. ;)

Feeling is mutual, don't worry ;-)

Also, I feel like posting this here. Someone shared this on another forum, felt like this thread would be suitable for it:

"Mortal Kombat X creative director Ed Boon has recently discussed the female representation of characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise.

During an interview with GamesMaster magazine, Boon was asked about his thoughts regarding the ongoing GamerGate movement — a debate that started last year surrounding ‘ethics in gaming journalism’ — and how it may relate to the female characters from the well-known series.

“I feel like MK represents empowered females more than almost any game out there,” he said. “You know, Mileena, Kitana, Sonya, now Cassie Cage — she’s going to one of the stars of this thing [Mortal Kombat X]. So I don’t think anybody can associate Mortal Kombat with any kind of…

“Our female characters are treated exactly like our male characters, and we have a higher percentage of female characters than almost any fighting game, so I really believe that Mortal Kombat represents empowered women more than almost any game. I hold that up against almost any franchise at all.”

While not necessarily jam-packed into a single game, it isn't that hard to find strong female characters in video games.

I like Ed, I really do. But that's some bs. When was the last time a male character ran around touching his naughty bits and using sex as a weapon?

And even worse, there's MK9 Sonya.

Granted, he puts them on an even playing field with the men... But they're represented (characteristically) in a not-so-great way.

I agree, I mean everyone is free to discuss whatever they want but it just seems pointless to be outraged when not even half of the roster has been revealed yet. We live in the age of outrage unfortunately, everyone wants to feel upset about something.

There needs to be more females released before launch. Also, if that 4th boot (from the pic of boots shown months ago) is a female and it's Mileena, something tells me that they'll release her in February because she's pink and its the month of Valentine's day. I can definitely be wrong but I hope I'm right and it would be nice to have a female released this time.

If all the women are going to be dressed slutty, then we're better off without female characters. As far as I'm concerned, it's either women dressed in a dignified fashion or no women at all. This isn't DOA, and the "slutty dressed female" act in MK has already worn thin.

... Whith any kind of what? Why does it stop there? :S

Anyways there should be only 6 to 7 females and that is it

Why?

I find the female part of the roster great so far - Cassie and Dvorah are very interesting "creatures", i hope they will not introduce Female Scorpion of something like this. Kitana, Sareena, Tanya is all i need from the females cast now. Still, if Mileena or Nitara will make it in, i will not be against their additions at all.

Because male characters have more diversity than females and females are not that important as males in the story. Females all look the same

You realize that most of the popular male characters in Mortal Kombat started out as palette swaps of one another, right?
Talking about characters who all look the same.

Honestly, with how NRS usually represents women in these games, the less the better. It's less offensive that way. lol

As for the Ferra/Torr thing - It's a two in one package. One is a guy, the other a woman. Stick each one into the appropriate gender category. We've got three women and nine men so far.

This is exactly how I see it. Ferra/Torr is two characters in one. Its not like Ferra is just there for decoration. It seems like he is the muscle and she is the brains of whatever operation they are part of. I count them as one male, one female regardless of whether or not Ferra is controllable.

What do you think about Skarlet in it? I know she wasn't in the MK9 story but it was nice to play with her.

The story behind (being formed from the blood of Kahn's victims) was cool, everything else was not - standard female ninja clone without any memorable special attacks, X-ray was bland, fatalities were ok thought.
