Is Ed Boon sure he's doing the right thing?

I am not talking about character joke concept or fail mentality, mr. Rider :D

Yeah, you said that Rain was a failed character concept.

Do you believe that rain at umk3 was productive? all why ed boon likes a song from "prince" called "purple rain"? is other case of whim in 1995/1996 and then you saw back to rain with a poncho in mkar, lol, rain is clearly a failed character mk3-mkt season

Rain was a good character in UMK3, and my main for that game.
I don't see why Rain is a failed character concept, just because Ed joked and named him after a Prince song?

Rain receives a lot of un-deserved hate just because of that. I feel he's one of the better characters from that era of MK.

is not only by this, there is more reason for explain why him was hated

One thing is talk about a failed character that for a long time did not appeared and other very different thing imo is talk about character fail- mentality.

Rain was not good character at umk3, but too have a similitude with the new character from original mk3, rain have a stupid martial coreography, also too generic
but with the huge difference that rain have an unbalanced and exagerated special moves.

Also with few sense of animations. Rain should not to have electrical special moves, but at least mk9 has fixed this lacks of realism.
Also again, horrible and generic, too his bio and his ending is few developed.
Rain was a failed character, cause him just is back in mk armageddon , also midway team has tried grow up to Rain, the only bad on him at mk ar, is that he use the same fighting style from tanya in mkd,
again you can see other generic example on rain :D.

But again, the original rain was a whim from an utopic mind and this was from Boon nothing more and nothing less.

I respect that you like it. But honestly Rain at umk3 was a downgrade
I see where you're coming from, but wasn't alot of these (usually hidden) characters from UMK3/MKT hidden pallete swaps just there for fun? They didn't seem like a serious set of characters until their actual official and revamped appearances.

I loved his bubble + super round house kick in MKT. He was fun to play with.

Yes.
Thank you.

Rain should not to have electrical special moves, but at least mk9 has fixed this lacks of realism.

I know what you mean, in comparison to someone like Raiden.
Even so, though, what do you expect from a character that's called "Rain?"

When I think of rain, I think of lightning, thunder and rain.

My only complaint was that it was a little too similar to Nightwolf's Lightning move in MK9, but even in UMK3, Rain was a great character.

So many words written and no actual valid argument as to why Rain was a failure. Because he was named after Prince's song???

He had his own special moves and combos (more than many characters can say), he was a failure because he shouldn't control lightning? Really? What kind of argument is that? Why should Nightwolf control lightning and not Rain? Nightwolf didn't have lightning back then. Why is this guy even commenting on exaggerated moves and lack of realism in MK??? Because X-Rays are VERY realistic of course.

What I see is: a guy who doesn't like a character and is trying to nitpick every penny to criticize him... Well, it hasn't worked so far...

Is true that was not alot secrets characters for play, But reptile from mk1 and then in mk2 was a positive case, and him at least was more cared.

And about mk3/hidden swapcharacter was for make more rumors, supposdely for make fun, but the problem is the formula, and this was wasted in mk2. Smoke in mk3 should be an antigeneric character for get the true sense of rumors and fun. But no him is a grey sektor with a trident. And its was about a lack of ram memory on arcade game, in really boon has managed bad this, no comment about mkt that is worse.
Also in 1995 year raised up a huge capitalist marketing, and clearly was not a good campaing, include midway in 1996 was earned financial troubles until mk4.

Nope.
This still doesn't explain why Rain was a failure (which he wasn't).

If Rain was such a failure in the UMK3 era, then the fans wouldn't have harassed Ed Boon to make him a DLC character in MK9???

I expect only water special moves with antigeneric poses at least. Anyway rain was not the first character in perform water special moves, offcourse i mean the non cannon hydro character. Rain lost realism in comparision with raiden also.

PPl asked rain at mk9 cause ppl saw him at mk armageddon, that in really has earned more popularity in 2007/2008 imagine they spent 10 years for bring back to rain .But in umk3(1995/6) is different. Also for the ppl mk9 it would be the modernized MKT. Is more, ed boon has considered to Rain a failder character since first moment, i suspect that him felt shame, and then rain fans asked this specially. But suddenly at umk3 him was a failed char.

I didn't see anything wrong with Rain in any of the games he appeared in. I remember playing MK:T with friends and Rain being one of the more commonly chosen characters. He has a fan base, for sure. The problem is - Those who are unable to get by the fact that he was inspired by a Prince song, constantly put him down to the point where others pick up on the negativity and jump on board the Rain Hate Train.

Him not being part of MK9's initial roster was an injustice. His presence in the original trilogy was memorable enough to where he should have never been replaced with a Cyber Sub-Zero or Quan Chi.

In my case my hate was about of his lack of originality using generic stuffs. The downgrade in character is not measured so much if character likes or not, is measured by the things that rain brought in 1996 and how those things was made on character. think on it 10 years (2007) midway have delayed for bring back rain, cause was a downgrade in 1996.

Please, stop it there.

Rain was the first and ONLY ONE to perform water moves in any MK game. There's no way around that as much as I am sure you'd love to.

You're just repeating "failed character" over and over again but you're still not saying why he is a failure.
Anyway, Rain has a fanbase, he's unique, looks cool and has a good story. He has shown up in a MK movie, in the series and in the cartoon. He belongs in Mortal Kombat.

He wasn't a failure in UMK3, he was a fake in UMK3, cleverly designed to rob us of our quarters in the arcade.

only in arcade game rain is the first character in perform water moves offcuorse and this make it as official character. But bubble water move at umk3 not seem a water animation, seem telekinetic rigid globe with alot flavor from umk3 ermac, techincally. Sorry but if midway team expent 10 years for bring back to him, means that in 1996 rain was a failed character.
About fan base i agreed. But again in 1996 rain have not a good history, not look cool. at Mk movies sucks (imagine shao khan drop him in a water font XD wow ´fn original) and the series too, one worse than other until mk armageddon. I am agree that him belongs In Mk, but him was pathetic, generic and unoriginal.
