Is Ed Boon sure he's doing the right thing?

I like to see the new karacters thrive. Its great to see new faces after MKA, it impresses me that they still have creative ideas after the massive rosters of past games. I think NRS and Boon have a solid grip on things and are heading in a good direction.

Let's look at Cassie Cage. Not only is she new, but I can see how the alternate fighting styles can let her mimic Johnny and Sonya so (in a way) they stay in the games.

what do you guys make of boons tweet today?

"Looks like today is the 5 year anniversary of Michael Jackson's death & the 30 year anniversary of Prince's movie "Purple Rain" #Coincidence"

I don't think there's any correlation there to anything MK-related. Boon loves to get people analyzing his every word, when a lot of it is just supererogatory.

I agree with the op. People saying oh but tekken 3 had all new characters though. That was the THIRD TEKKEN. It was still new and hadn't had a base set of what was norm for it and the fanbase was still growing rapidly wasn't like they had been doing something for more than two decades and all of sudden threw you a curveball. MK has now been around longer than some of it's fans. This is the 10th game. Mk already has a set standard. Also look at every new character from MkDA on. They all somehow had some type of resemblance or something about them that you could compare them two someone else. Let's look at mk4. Fujin( if he isn't in MkX I'm not buying it) is a god comparable to Raiden they kinda look alike anyways. Shinnok is basically a non human/god version of Shang Tsung. Tanya wears clothing similar to kitana, jade, and milenna so no matter her moveset she looked the part. Let's look at MKDA. The most loved character Kenshi is a blind ninja swordsman. Fits perfectly into mk a different take on ninja but still fits in. Frost well just initially thought female subby. Easily fit in. Even Hsu Hao bad as he was fit in. A Asian evil cop looking guy. You could see from his looks he would be fighting jax. Only characters that look the part on MkX are Cassie and Kotal Kahn. Cassie is the best new one to me fits in perfectly if this is where there going in the future. Kotal Kahn also looks the part he's an evil god maybe a descendant to shinnok or something. But Ferra/torr and D'vorah are the worst mk characters I've ever seen. D'Vorah looks like she should be fighting Spider-Man gtf fack outta here. And Ferra/torr is just plain stupid it looks completely awkward and highly unattractive seeing then fight someone other than D'Vorah. Should have put them in injustice 2 not MKX. I think Torr may have been a pretty nice boss though if it wasn't for that retarded looking girl riding him.

1. The last Mortal Kombat was a reboot meaning like it or not the franchise basically erased most of their past so they can have a fresh start so that means they don't have to be restricted past.

2. Characters looking similar to other characters is not really a good thing hell it kind of screams lazy design, yeah fujin and frost fit into MK but lets face it they were basically rehashes of other characters.

3. Yeah I agree Dvoroh and Torr don't look like they belong in MK but you know what thats why I like about them. They seem over the top and can bring something new to the MK verse while expand the world building of the series by looking at different species and warriors in otherrelms

To say "this character doesn't belong in MK", you must to see that MK game first.
I'm sure in 1994-1995 most people screamed "robots don't belong in MK" as well, but look at us now.

I didn't see anything wrong with Rain in any of the games he appeared in. I remember playing MK:T with friends and Rain being one of the more commonly chosen characters. He has a fan base, for sure. The problem is - Those who are unable to get by the fact that he was inspired by a Prince song, constantly put him down to the point where others pick up on the negativity and jump on board the Rain Hate Train.

Him not being part of MK9's initial roster was an injustice. His presence in the original trilogy was memorable enough to where he should have never been replaced with a Cyber Sub-Zero or Quan Chi.

This.
Thank you.

He wasn't a failure in UMK3, he was a fake in UMK3, cleverly designed to rob us of our quarters in the arcade.

That's a pretty damn good playable fake that's on my Sega Genesis, then, as well as on MK Trilogy.
Arcade machine days aside, people still put Rain down these days because "He was inspired by a Prince song."
Boo-f***ing-hoo.

All of the original MK1 characters where also inspired by just as much ridiculous movie and pop-culture shit.

PPl asked rain at mk9 cause ppl saw him at mk armageddon, that in really has earned more popularity in 2007/2008 imagine they spent 10 years for bring back to rain .But in umk3(1995/6) is different.

Wrong.
People hated Armageddon, and it's considered to be one of THE WORST MK games to have ever come out by a majority of hardcore and casual fans alike.
Most people that begged for Ed Boon to put Rain in UMK3, likely either played as Rain in UMK3 on Sega Genesis, or on MK Trilogy and felt that he deserved a spot over Cyber Sub-Zero and Quan Chi, which he did.

Each character must have 3 styles, right? If Rain is in, 1 style will be based on his water powers, 2nd can be his classic moves, but 3rd must be based on electricity, right? Then you have Raiden, who also need 3 fighting styles, all of them must be based on electricity, Raiden will likely use all electric attacks NRS is capable of imagine, which leaves nothing to Rain...it's like Sub-Zero/Frost thing - if more popular character of the same powers is in MKX, less popular is doomed. This is a 1 single reason why i'am not so crazy about 3 fighting styles per guy, leave enough of characters without a chance of appearing.

Raiden could focus on teleportation/mind attacks in his first style, electricity in the other and solely fighting moves in the third.

With some imagination, you can remove eletricity from Rain.If he can handle 2 styles without it,they can force a third one too.

I also agree with Mr.Ice.But I doubt Rain will be in MKX anyway :???:

Yes.
Agreed with all of this 100%.

Not really.

Variation 1 could be more based on powers using his Water abilities.
Variation 2 could be more based on his Super Kick ability / Teleporting.
Variation 3 could be based on his H2O boost and giving him more damage output.

Lightning is nowhere in my example, and Raiden can still have his moves. :)

Just because Frost uses ice like Sub Zero doesn't mean that it's impossible to come up with new variations that Sub Zero doesn't have.

Prodigy: able to summon large stalagmites from the ground underneath the opponent, access to a unique Blizzard Rush teleport
Spiteful: ability to use ice picks formed out of her hands as projectiles in a variety of ways (from above, machine gun style, anti air)
Unbridled: With her frozen arms exposed Frost gets access to slightly stonger and more efficient combos. able to trap opponent in a cloud of hail setting them up for a hit.

You see? I'd be 100% OK with something like this for Frost. :)
It's still using ice powers, but nothing like Sub-Zero.
I've been saying it for years.
Frost needs an MK9 Kenshi revamp for MK X.

This.

If you compare mk4 with Mk ar, maybe mk4 is worse, but there is too pro and cons.
wrong me? ah yes? i repeat again "rain" that does ´nt mean to same in whole "mk armageddon game" has earned more approval and popularity as "character" just in 2007, cause bye luck him was more expanded in special moves and design. If not ,is not posible explain why in mk9 rain too had again aproval and popularity, also rain has inherited certain ideas and animations from mk armageddon in mk9. And again the ppl beg rain in mk9 how like ass happened in armageddon, cause those games Mkar and mk9 are other kind "mkt" game style.

anyway rain was a whim in umk3. And i am agreed with vetalfox, cyber ninjas was a huge screem for not fititing on mk at first years.

Positively,Absolutely,I want to congradulate Ed Boon for a excellent, superb & an outstanding job on creating the Mortal Kombat X game, this is the best Mortal Kombat game that he created & came out with. My question to Ed Boon is this, are all or some of the characters from Mortal Kombat 9 & Mortal Kombat Armageddon will be added/included in the Mortal Kombat X game?

And me wants to congratulate ed boon for ruin the mk saga as hell. Techinacally in the sense of technology, yes is the best, but at what´s MK means, no.
mkx is any game less a mk game. And there is no better games than mk1 or mk2, sorry nothing can be erase those classic games include if there is a playstation 20.

MK9 sold better than MK1 & MK2.
MKX will likely sell better than all of the 2d MK's combined.

Mortal Kombat is currently in it's golden age. And it has never looked so good. Stay salty bruh, I'll be enjoying this 2014 ish

Where are these bizarre as f*** feelings coming from? How is this game not MK to you? I see Scorpion, Sub Zero, the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade... It's a fighting game. It's gory. There's fatalities.

What is your actual problem? Just the fact that it's not MK 1 or 2?

My gripe with X are the arenas. They should have returned to the darker and mysterious tone of MK2.Arenas like that one full of people on the background reminds me of Street Fighter.

Does that include quarters in the arcade?
