Shin Megami Tensei

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

SMT IV is going to be released in less than 2 weeks. I need to get Soul Hackers over with, but I got stuck in one of the dungeons.

I heard Atlus' parent company is in financial trouble. I hope it doesn't affect them in the future.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

I decided to give SMT IV a whirl. Some random impressions.

Art direction is pretty solid. Fully animated cutscenes seem to be abscent so far, but the sprites and background illustrations are superb.

Town navigation is streamlined to being entirely menu-based. I was kind of hoping be able to walk around the environment, but the upside is it will save time when needing to get from point A to point B. Speaking of menus, the interface is nice and clean compared to the earlier SMT games I played.

Movement and camera controls is kind of awkward, like Nocturne. I prefer Persona control 3-4 scheme, but it's not viable since the 3DS doesn't have a second analog.

While it doesn't have the traditional random encounters, enemies spawn on the field at any time. I once had 4 enemies appear on screen at the same time. Unless they haven't spotted you yet, it can be difficult to get away from them. Demons on the field can be pretty quick and the awkward movement controls doesn't really help things either.

The game is surprisingly challenging early in the game. A bad roll during an encounter can really F you up. Even Nocturne was not that rough at the beginning.

Dying cutscene is annoying long, although I suspect it was done on purpose to discourage save/reload tactics.

Thankfully, saving the game is much more convenient since it can be done anywhere instead of relying on checkpoints.

There seems to be more character customization than ever, with attribute distribution like Nocturne plus the ability for Demons to teach you their skills.

Which dungeon was it? The second to last one, I think it's like the Amami Monolith? That dungeon is fvcking brutal. It's a complete pain in the ass.

Atlus' parent company, Index is doing fine now I believe. Atlus won't be affected thankfully.

I don't think there will be full on cutscenes. More or less, it will be like what you've saw already. Character drawing will move while the background moves/changes. That's it really. I don't mind it because I don't expect some MGS like cinematic on the 3DS lol. Plus the drawings are fantastic so I dig it.

When you get further in the game, there will be a map like how you control in Nocturne with you being the dot and moving from place to place.

The menu is really nice. The easy functionality of it is really nice. Nothing overly complicated or anything like I was expecting.

Movement and camera controls is kind of awkward, like Nocturne. I prefer Persona the 3-4 scheme, but it's not viable since the 3DS doesn't have a second analog.

You'll get the hang of it. It plays pretty much exactly like Persona 3: Portable does. Having to press square (B in this case) to move the camera angle back to behind you. You'll eventually grow used to it. I'm already used to it.

It's true they're fast and there really is sometimes when you just HAVE to fight them. There has been a few times when 4 of them will just pop up out of nowhere and charge at me. I really like how it shows the % chance of you getting away if you want to escape. If you play on easy (easy is unlocked by dying 2 times) the escape chance is always 100%.

The beginning of SMTIV surprisingly is pretty hard and thankfully too. I didn't want it to be a cakewalk the whole way through. I still have some problems negotiating with demons. I'm just not good at it lol. Here have 3 life stones and some macca and my health and the fvcker just leaves.

I really like buying the apps from Burroughs too, it makes things a lot simpler.

Dying cutscene is annoying long, although I suspect it was done on purpose to discourage save/reload tactics.

Yeah that I will agree on, however it adds to the eerie-ness of it. Honestly, the River Styx has always freaked me out for some odd reason and they did it perfectly.

But if you hold down X, you'll skip all the dialog.

Thankfully, saving the game is much more convenient since it can be done anywhere instead of relying on checkpoints.

Saving anywhere is REALLY fvcking nice. I am able to save right before a boss fight so I don't have to go all the way through the dungeon again. I always save now right in front of a demons domain so I'll have nothing to worry about.

The character customization is really nice. I really like how the armor shows up on the character in game. I'm still looking for the white studded leather armor though. That armor looks bad ass. I'm currently using the white samurai DLC costume you can get for free (only free for a little while so snatch it up when you can).

Thankfully there are some funny moments in the game too.

Also, Isabeau <3

Well except her goofy ass haircut. Other than that, yeah <3.

ALSO! I hiiiiiighly doubt any of you guys have or know where to get one of these.

IF you do know, get it for me and I will HAPPILY trade you my promo Persona 4 t-shirt and give a hand job (lube not supplied).

I was stuck at Algon Microelectronics, but I realized there was a room that I overlooked. The most annoying dungeon so far was either the VR Haunted Mansion or Primate Intelligence Lab.

The 3DS is capable of FMVs; Fire Emblem: Awakening and Soul Hackers use them quite a bit. I suspect this mostly has to with the budget limitation than anything else.

BTW, I read your visitor message, but I was unable to reply on my page for some reason.
I haven't been played SMTIV since then. I still want to finish Soul Hackers and I started playing P4:Arena again. Both games are sucking away my time as it is.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

Yeah I know Fire Emblem does but it probably is budget limits. I don't mind the cutscene with the moving pictures though. I kinda like it. It makes the 3D look really cool.

The Algon Microelectronics dungeon was pretty fvcking stupid because it's so big and it's a giant maze.

Not sure if you're interested or not, but I'm actually recording the songs in SMTIV from my 3DS (I knew this aux cable would come in handy one day!) and uploading them to Youtube. I'm trying to keep spoilers out of my titles so you really shouldn't have anything to worry about.

The OST is fvcking amazing btw. I'm glad I'm recording the songs so I can go back and listen to them whenever I want. I'm missing a few but the ones I am missing are already up on Youtube like the main battle theme, desert battle theme, weapon shop, Ginza, Shibuya and a few others.

Cool, I subscribed to your channel. I used to post a lot of shit on youtube myself, but I haven't had the time and energy in recent years.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

Spoiler:
Alright, so this game is getting really depressing. I love it though. My bro Walter sacrifices himself to Lucifer and now I had to fight Isabeau. Isabeau was awesome. My favorite character even more than Walter. She said that she couldn't handle the fact that I sided with Lucifer and we go into battle. When she gets really low on health you can choose to say either:
Freedom is everything and we need chaos and Lucifer to rule or say nothing at all. I chose to say nothing and she says how I have no heart anymore and then says there's still one choice she could make on her own then slit her throat.

Fvcking devastated. I really didn't want to fight her and I definitely didn't want her to fvcking kill herself. Now I'm off to kill the 4 archangels.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

So...you're being a complete dick?

I thought there was some sort of neutral path?

Or is it just goodie-two-shoes, or dickface?

No. I said I was going chaos route. I wanted to shape the world to what we see fit. But I didn't know I had to
Spoiler:
fight Isabeau. I figured she would stick with me since you kinda get that she likes you lol. But it's the exact opposite. She's against your decision. Walters sacrifice was for a cause, but Isabeau just couldn't stand the fact that her fellow samurai was turning his back on God and invade our homeland.

And yes there is a law, neutral and a chaos ending.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

Flawless, did you ever finish Soul Hackers?

So, I'm trying to get my hands on a SMTIV Famitsu DX pack. It came with the game, a few post cards I believe, a bad ass wall scroll and a T-shirt. Though I've only seen them available on Playasia and they've been sold out. I've tried looking on YJA and eBay but to no avail.

So I'm thinking I won't find one. If one doesn't show up soon, I'm going to buy this Nocturne poster. I messaged the guy asking if he'll go down to 70 or 80 because 100 seems a little too far fetched. Even 70 and 80 is, but I know he won't go for any less.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RARE-...258?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d9ca25f2

If I do get this, I'm going to frame it and put it under a black light. It would look fvcking sexy under a black light.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

No, not yet. I haven't played video games all that much this week. My next destination is the Amami Monolith.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

Ouch. Worst dungeon in the whole game, but if you're having trouble with it, it honestly shouldn't be too hard to find a guide online. I couldn't find shit about it since I got it on release day.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

i finished SMT IV 2 nights ago, also, chaos ending ( i think )

though i didn't have to fight anyone... me and walter teamed up/..... idk how to post a spoiler tag, so i'll just leave it at that.

Was the ending

Spoiler:
Walter sacrificing himself to Lucifer, you and Lucifer fighting the Merkabah and ruling over a fallen Mikado? Because that's the Chaos ending. That was the ending I got yesterday. I've gotten the bad ending where you return the universe to nothing and then I got the Chaos ending which I said above. I'm on my Neutral playthrough now. Neutral is also the canon ending btw. So Chaos, Law or bad isn't canon

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

There would be more SMT games because none of the games are connected to each other in any way besides cameos. The only games that are linked together are SMT1 (neutral story is canon) and SMTII (The ending to Neutral in SMT1 is described at the beginning of SMTII, so they're connected) and SMT's MMO game, Imagine, takes place between 1 and 2. Those are the only SMT games that are connected to each other. III: Nocturne and IV are not connected to SMTI,II or Imagine in anyway at all.

The layout of the Amami Monolith wasn't particularly difficult, but there was A LOT of backtracking involved. The solution of the first two sets of passwords were was given away outright, assuming you work on moving the correct panel right away. However, I had a hard time finding the rooftop.

Anyways, I finally completed Soul Hackers. I like the setting and theme, and to think this game was made during a time when the internet was relatively new. I didn't get the point of the Kuzunoha clan; they make sudden appearances and are never seen again.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

Maybe there's more to the clan in NG+. There's more to the story apparently in NG+. Hell in NG+ you can even
Spoiler:
save Leader
so Idk. Maybe you can find out more about the clan in NG+.

The Amami Monolith is just so big and it's such a fvcking hassle. I was in there for a good 3 hours lol.
