Super Smash Bros

if you are sitting here hoping that the next super smash game will be JUST like Melee, stop holding your breath. Nintendo has heard it's fans and their cry for a more Melee-esk game, but the numbers are there people. Brawl did WAY better than Melee, and you could say it was because the Wii sold more and it was one of the best games on the system, so people bought more of them, which is probably true, but it too remains that Brawl was geared toward a more casual audience, and it did OUTSTANDING, it has made the series more popular than ever. Nintendo is not going to give that up. This partnership may mean a meeting at the half way point though. Melee was a great game in that it allowed players of any skill level to pick up a controller and play at the depth that they wanted to. Then again, i would argue that it allowed a little too much depth. I personally never knew the terms wave-dashing and L-cancelling while i played the games, but sure enough, i performed the actions. I would always beat my friends, so no one ever wanted to play the game with me, and as silly as it sounds, i think that that is exactly what Nintendo wants to avoid. So in a sense i think that they'll try to balance the game in a character sense, as well as a player sense, and that will be the main focus. Maybe they could do this more heavily with items and stages, that way, if one wanted to play more in depth they would simply need to turn off items (i always do when playing seriously) and pick final destination

I see what you mean about Nintendo doing the thing that makes more money rather than what the fans really want. They've been doing that ever since the Wii was released. But we just dont know yet, maybe they'll change.

And its not just about L cancelling and other things, sure a certain crowd would still be angry if it doesnt return, but mostly people are just longing for a game thats overall more serious and faster. I mean I still think Brawl is fun for what it is and I'll defend it as a game, but as a sequel? No, its no where as good and its lacking a certain something that melee has. I wish they'd realize this and strive to make the next game better.

ALSO!!!!

i am getting royally pissed off at the people who are saying: oh! namco/bandai is helping!? put it jin, or yoshimitsu!, or kilik!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Super Smash Bros. is a NINTENDO FRANCHISE ALL STAR GAME!!!!!! keep that in mind people. it was said in brawl that 3rd party guest characters would be kept to a max of 2, so first off, lets get this train of random characters off the tracks.

ALSO!! the 3rd party slots should be left to larger characters in the gaming industry that are well known like megaman, bomberman, pacman (likely with bandai/namco), even Crash bandicoot

BUT NOT!!!! Masterchief, or Ryu, Scorpion, DBZ characters or any of these grown ass men, they do NOT fit in with Nintendo characters. I still don’t think Solid Snake belonged in Brawl simply due to the fact that he DID NOT FIT!! but i get it, he had had some history with nintendo and was begged to be put in the game, but i would have definitely welcomed Banjo & Kazooie much more because they look like they fit!!

Come on people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[end my personal opinion] [end rant]

What's your smash tourney name you go buy?

Also That's a big assumption on your part.

Brawl did better also because EVERYONE that played melee bought brawl expecting it to be like melee. Then you got the added audience the new comers.

Of course its sales would be better.

I microwaved my brawl disc. That's how pissed I was at the game. I'm a huge brawl hater and I bought it. This time no. I'm waiting for fellow smasher reviews before I buy it.

I know alot of other people who bought it, but it just collects dust.

Melee will be played until the very last melee disc is broken or smashed. Brawl on the other hand will die when this new re-iteration comes out. Whether it's good or bad.

Melee will still be around if it's bad. And you can bet your ass it'll still have the same attendance on a national scale.

Scared of great players scarying away noobs in a online sense?

Why not incorporate a system like Starcraft 2 does.

put people into leagues so everyone is fighting people of even skill everytime they log in for a ranked match If you win so many in a row you move up a league. if you keep losing you fight other people who keep losing.

there are ways around "scaring off the casuals" Your just too blind to think outside the box.

O-O

...I like Solid Snake being in the game :/

I love solid snake too, he was the only thing cool about that game. He had a cool sliding upsmash tech.

His taunts on his own stage were OP

Did you know he was suppose to be in SSBM? but due to time constraints they cut him?

Snake in Melee would've been sick.

What do you mean?

And I loved him! His moves were so badass. RPG for a smash attack lol

I still need a video from you, showcasing your best skills!

my favorite codec call is yoshi

Snake: now you got me curious maybe i should catch one and see what it taste like

Otacon: ugh snake.......

also the fact that snake was scared of Ganondorf along with showing Luigi more respect than Colonel was funny as well

its lacking a certain something that melee has
I would say spirit

Melee had a distinct feel to it that Brawl didn't have at all. From the orchestrated music to the FMV opening sequence to the overall increased production values and amount of polish compared to the original game, you could almost say the game had a cinematic appeal to it. As a result, the game felt more ambitious and grand in scope, fitting for a game about pitting Nintendo's biggest all-stars against each other

Brawl doesn't have any of that same feeling, a lot of it just feels flashy and all over the place

Brawl may have had inferior gameplay, but the Subspace Emissary was one of the funnest gaming experiences I've ever had.
Absolutely no dialogue, but the story was top notch. I LOVED seeing characters that had no business together pair up to fight baddies.
Olimar & Captain Falcon? Yes, goddam, please. That scene was badass as hell. Plus that crazy feeling of desperation when Tabbuu killed EVERYONE with one attack. Then Luigi, Dedede & Kirby I think it was had to save the day. Just pure greatness.

Brawl had a feeling that is going to be very hard to top. There was just so much that you could do. Almost seemed a sin to pay $50 for such a jam packed game.

But funk all that, I just love the hype that comes with seeing the characters revealed.
I'm personally hoping for Waluigi, Dry Bones/Dry Bowser, Funky Kong, Petey Piranha, Mega Man, Little Mac, Starfy.
I also had the thought of having Cranky Kong play like Pokemon trainer. He uses Rhambi the Rhino, the little spider & the ostrach to fight using those crates.

story mode in brawl played alot like a kirby game. (was made by HAL after all)
it was decent, but the clips were really the highlight of it. That and the bosses.
(didnt like those 2 robot bosses though, they werent even nintendo related, just random generic robots)

And concerning new characters for the next game. Looks like they are just gonna have to get older characters, as Nintendo hasnt made much at all since Brawl was released and havnt come up with any new characters. But I'm ok with that, theres alot of classics that need to be added.

I completely disagree with you. I think that a lot of people just wanted another melee with more characters, and the fact that they did not get that simply hit them so hard that they can't get over it and see how great of a game brawl is aside from that. The above comment is simply a lie. Brawl had orchestrated music, a cinematic opening, all that. I see so many people trying so hard to put Brawl down, pulling from anything they can get their hands on to add weight to their argument.

Don't have to try hard to find something wrong with brawl.

All you have is music and cutscenes and a superior single player story mode. That's it.

We can talk game mechanics I know both very well.

Expect a big post about why your game is terrible compared to melee very soon. Soooooo much to talk about I need to be home to do it.

I wake up in the morning to find this horseshit waiting for me?

For your information, I don't try to "put down" Brawl, I'm not even a competitive player plus I actually enjoy the game (mostly Special Brawl with friends) so don't assume shit please. I like Brawl, and I'm glad it didn't turn out to be complete shit, but the game has so many obvious flaws it's not even funny. Both Melee and Brawl had flaws, but with Brawl, I could tell you about 3 or 4 problems I had with the game just off the top of my head, I'd do it right now but Critical is coming back so I'll let him handle that. So, get off your high horse and don't try to make it seem like I'm just grasping from straws and that I just "hate" on Brawl for no reason because it makes you look like a jackass

And Brawl had a "cinematic" opening, but I use that term VERY loosely considering all it does is recycle SSE cutscenes and like I said, nothing about it evokes the same feeling that the Melee intro had. Brawl also had good orchestrated music, but it was all over the place in terms of style and didn't feel unified like arguably how both the original's music and Melee's music felt, hence why I said what I said

About the "people just wanted Melee with more characters" part... that's exactly what I feel Brawl was. It was just Melee with more characters and content, but arguably a worse version of it considering it didn't advance the gameplay like Melee did. It's not even just the fact that it took out some of the more advanced techniques that Melee had, the whole game just feels sluggish and floaty... not really all that fun. And before you say I need to "take off the nostalgia goggles" or anything like that, shut the hell up right now because that isn't true in the slightest. Melee is my favorite game in the series because the gameplay was fast, fun and frenetic, in addition to everything else I liked about it (which I won't get into right now). I could play that game any day, whether it be alone or with friends. On the other hand, I ****ing grew up playing Smash 64 and that game feels hella weird to go back to today because of how simple and unpolished it feels compared to its sequels

I could easily say that Brawl is a try hard casual game with half-assed modes and content, but I don't want to condescend it like that considering that would make the game seem worse than what it really is. With that said, IMO, as a casual player, Brawl left a lot to be desired; I'm not saying this just to hate on the game like others do, but that's how I truly feel. I want Smash 4 to be better and to learn from the mistakes that Brawl made, so next time, be a good boy and don't talk to me like I'm some sort of butthurt tourney player or a nostalgiatard please cause I'll only laugh at you for how stupid you'd sound
