Super Smash Bros

It may depend on the WiiU's audience.
Nintendo's crusade to market their Wii console as casual friendly as possible even leaked into one of their biggest and most respected series. That's why brawl felt not as serious and not as complete as it should have. They could step it up with WiiU and make the smash brothers game we've been waiting for.

However I have some worries. Its not about Namco either, that could actually turn out good. It's the fact that Smash Bros 4 has been said to be released as the same game on both WiiU AND 3DS. You heard it, They're not making a seperate spinoff game for 3DS, its gonna be the same game. Sound like a recipe for a watered down disaster if you ask me. They even claimed that "simply adding more characters and stages is not the way to go, and how we are going about to change things up"

goddammit all we want is for it to play closer to Melee's gameplay and have alot of characters and stages for the fans. I really dont like or want to hear whats on their oh so important "change" agenda.

I couldn't agree more.

I wouldn't mind things like new B-moves like a diagnal upward aimed B.

or more tilt type Special B moves.

like you know how Samus' Rocket when you mash it like a smash attack she shoots a straght high knock back rocket? but her forward tilt B, sends a homing rocket that does less damage.

I think all the B-moves should have something like this.

Imagine a tilted Down+B from samus means a bomb that comes out sticks to them and blows up like 3 seconds later. giving Samus a chance to grab with her crap grab if they choose to block it. If they don't block it you get a chance to combo.

That could be the "new" stuff.

The game was perfect the way it is. That's why we still have THIS!!! 11 years after it's release.

SSBM has 300 entrants on national levels still.

Mk9 gets like 100 on a national level. Come on Nintendo.

I hope SSB 4 is good, I really do. I loved the hell out of melee but brawl was disappointing. Tripping on nothing was hella dumb. All I really want for Smash 4 is the gameplay I know and love and maybe some new fun game types. As for new characters there could be a lot of cool people they could add. Some that I was thinking of were Dark Samus (Samus clone with a slight variation on moves, like Falco and Fox) Any of the bounty hunters from Metroid Prime Hunters (I don't know if anyone played that game but all of them were pretty cool) the return of some classics namely Mewtwo and Roy, and maybe Jin as a guest character since Namco Bandai are woking on it.

lol dr. pee pee

yeah, I really dont know what the change they are talking about is. Brawl compared to Melee didnt even add that many new characters, and they only watered down the fighting. So this "change" could mean they are going forward in making the series better, or it could mean they are making the game where somone playing on the WiiU could play against someone on 3DS or something else that has to deal with new hardware and features. Not a horrible idea dont get me wrong, but when their focus is leaning on something more gimicky, its probably going to get in the way of making the gameplay good, or may result in a lack of attention to add new characters and other nice things. You get me?

That's sort of the thing with Nintendo, though

They always want to innovate and revolutionize everything, and I'm glad that they have that drive within them unlike others out there. But I just wish Nintendo would realize that not every game has to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes it's perfectly fine just to make a straightforward sequel, because what if the new concept you're trying to introduce has potential but it isn't fleshed out fully in the game that it's introduced in? A sequel can rectify those mistakes (this is why we need a Super Mario Sunshine 2, goddammit, but anyway). My point? It's that it's not just about finding new ways to play, it's about how far you take these concepts to make them even better. Straightforward sequels are perfect for this, as since the foundation is already laid out for these new gameplay mechanics, you can build upon them even more with the new iteration

I know it seems like I just went off on a tangent, but I felt like I needed to say this

Yes just add more tech/attributes. And take away anything everyone HATES

Everyone HATES tripping, take it out.

Note the Tilt B moves I mentioned earlier. a great way to add more moves to everyone's arsenal and still keeping it simple.

Tilted Specials? Yes please

I know some people over at Smash Boards have suggested a special that you perform by pressing A+B together, but that's even better

BTW, I really, REALLY hope everyone has their own unique Target Test obstacle stages again like in 64 and Melee. Not only were they way more fun and challenging that way, they actually taught me some things about the game. Like, for example, I found out how that you could wall jump from Young Link's target test, and I learned how to control Ness' PK Thunder a lot better by having to use it on his Target test stage

Yah I agree, the stages were specially designed for each character and their designed around their "strengths.

have you seen some of the competitive Break the Targets?

^ oh man those are insane. I'm gonna be looking at all of them now.

I've also been playing the Original SSB with few friends. At first just for old times, but then I accidentally started getting real into it. Game is fun, but hard to play at first after being so accustomed to how the shields and dodging is in later games.

Yeah, SSB64 has no DI either, it only has Smash DI.

It's definitely awkward going back to SSB64 lol.

If you want to see CRAZY SSB64 player look up Isai.

Nintendo revealed today that the Wii U and 3DS Smash Bros. games will be developed by Namco Bandai Games and Namco Bandai Studios.

What makes you say that?

Tekken & Soul Calibur are both very solid fighters.

Watch this video.
He explains it very well.

Smash 4 is NOT going to be made solely by Namco.
They are just helping.

I don't know. Namco Bandai are good fighting game developers. But handing stuff over to a new studio isn't always a good idea. Remember Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City? Don't even get me started on 343 Industries and Halo 4...

And we all saw how well brawl came out right? I trust Bandai Namco better than I trust Sakurai/Nintendo at this point. Your comparison isn't fair IMO.

Capcom is by popular opinion obviously more highly rated and liked than slantsixgames. So handing off your project to an off company less reputable than you will tend to lead to such results.

However IMO, since Bandai/namco have experience with fighters, Nintendo's already layed the ground plan for a good engine, Namco can make it shine better than nintendo. The way nintendo has been marketing their games is killing it IMO.

Credit goes to Sky valley btw he mentioned the bandai thing a page back.

good article

and something important that was highlighted in it.

"I picture the next game as more of a response to Brawl and the complaints people had, with Namco Bandai aiding with character balance, slight mechanical tweaks, and suggesting that perhaps tripping wasn't the best idea."

sounds good to me. And honestly, as much as I love the series, balanced characters has never been it's highlight, even in Melee. Hopefully Namco Bandai can change that.

Thank you Sky valley great news indeed my confidence has boosted.

EDIT:
But dammit lol, now I gotta buy a Wii U if it's good.

I was gonna just pass on WII U because my hope for nintendo has died.

But for a great smash game? i'd spend up to 500 bucks.

if you are sitting here hoping that the next super smash game will be JUST like Melee, stop holding your breath. Nintendo has heard it's fans and their cry for a more Melee-esk game, but the numbers are there people. Brawl did WAY better than Melee, and you could say it was because the Wii sold more and it was one of the best games on the system, so people bought more of them, which is probably true, but it too remains that Brawl was geared toward a more casual audience, and it did OUTSTANDING, it has made the series more popular than ever. Nintendo is not going to give that up. This partnership may mean a meeting at the half way point though. Melee was a great game in that it allowed players of any skill level to pick up a controller and play at the depth that they wanted to. Then again, i would argue that it allowed a little too much depth. I personally never knew the terms wave-dashing and L-cancelling while i played the games, but sure enough, i performed the actions. I would always beat my friends, so no one ever wanted to play the game with me, and as silly as it sounds, i think that that is exactly what Nintendo wants to avoid. So in a sense i think that they'll try to balance the game in a character sense, as well as a player sense, and that will be the main focus. Maybe they could do this more heavily with items and stages, that way, if one wanted to play more in depth they would simply need to turn off items (i always do when playing seriously) and pick final destination

ALSO!!!!

i am getting royally pissed off at the people who are saying: oh! namco/bandai is helping!? put it jin, or yoshimitsu!, or kilik!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Super Smash Bros. is a NINTENDO FRANCHISE ALL STAR GAME!!!!!! keep that in mind people. it was said in brawl that 3rd party guest characters would be kept to a max of 2, so first off, lets get this train of random characters off the tracks.

ALSO!! the 3rd party slots should be left to larger characters in the gaming industry that are well known like megaman, bomberman, pacman (likely with bandai/namco), even Crash bandicoot

BUT NOT!!!! Masterchief, or Ryu, Scorpion, DBZ characters or any of these grown ass men, they do NOT fit in with Nintendo characters. I still don’t think Solid Snake belonged in Brawl simply due to the fact that he DID NOT FIT!! but i get it, he had had some history with nintendo and was begged to be put in the game, but i would have definitely welcomed Banjo & Kazooie much more because they look like they fit!!

Come on people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[end my personal opinion] [end rant]
