Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

Ok, thanks for listening. I didn't realize you guys already someone doing the music. Didn't mean to step on any toes. :P

What is the plan as far as sound effects and voices go? I think part of the charm of this project is the fact that everything is fan-made without using any resources ripped from the games. To this end I think it's a good idea to try and replicate the sound effects and voice overs of the original, if possible. The visuals aren't ripped from the game, why should the sound be? :P

I can help out on this front if you guys don't have someone already on it. Just let me know.

Here's my original MK theme submission:

Yes, along with the music we are also remaking the sound effects. Not physically recording any but creating them with software. The voices will simply be edited to sound cleaner though, imitations would be impractical and wouldn't preserve the original performance.

If you have experience with sound design though, we could use your help for those sound fx, since Grid is working on the music and I still have graphics to take care of. Another person on board would be great.

I'll gladly help out. Just let me know what has been done already, if anything. I do physically record new stuff so anything that can benefit from that just let me know. I can also do clean-up stuff.

Ok another round of improvements:

First Jarvis, I didn't see your comments until I posted. I will check against what I have and see what I can address.

However this round of changes reflects comments from before so:

-shadow length has been greatly reduced
-i added some back shadows to the stone walls
-I've made the buddah's head match the original much better. I've sharpen and added depth to his pointer hand. I've added depth and better defined his belly. In my mind he is done.
-I've added the mustache to the side statues.
-I've add the smaller walls behind the Buddah Statue
-I've added the missing fence on the left hand side
-I've flopped the statue on the far left to face the left instead of the right (someone mentioned that)

-I've reduce the size of the rear cobble stone path floor barrier to match the original better and increase sense of depth.

-I've toned down the stone detailing texture.
-I've added color variation to the sky

I think that's it. I'd like to get the torches done today and release this stage to Interloko by tomorrow.

In regards to sound effects, nothing yet. But to ensure quality, the sounds should really be created with software, unless you have excellent studio hardware. But if you want to give it a try with whatever methods you know, have at it and PM me with any progress you make. I won't be able to do any work on sounds for a while so you've got some time.

I've never seen someone's work improve as much as it has with the talented people in this thread and this is a prime example. Excellent job man. However, one thing stands out which I feel could be improved upon.

It has become incredibly apparent that there is a distinct lack of cake. While not exactly true to the original, it's f*cking cake, and needs to be included. Also, that thing over there is a hair to the left.

I have good hardware and software. (I moonlight as an indie film composer) I'll whip up some things and send them your way!

I agree...needs more cake.

The DAW we're using is Reaper, so it'd be ideal if you use it for processing also. That way it's all streamlined and you could send me the full project files with the recordings.

I've used Reaper before, but am now using Sonar X1. If you like I can just bounce all my files into a Reaper session after I'm done. Would that work?

So Jarvis,

What was your lighting change? The scene looks warmer with less of the blue skylight affecting object colors. Not sure I like that. You are correct that the scene is overcast but I'm wondering if adding color variation with the sky helps to sell the effect?

I think that the statue's robe, on the arm, looks thin as paper. It could be more thick or just fill the hole in black color. And their mouth is kind of funny.

I liked the floor made by jarvis, it's more close to the arcade. But that's just my opinion.

The stone thing on the far left, where it hits the floor, looks a bit strange.

Yeah that'd be great, I mean it doesn't matter what you record in, just whatever you're working in with the files. So if you were doing non-destructive editing, then you could send me the Reaper project and I could tweak away. Otherwise if you don't plan on anything other than recording, just sending me the files will be fine.

Will do, sir!

Guys, one question. U want to re-record all sound effects? I mean, aaahs-ooohs, death screams and so? Probably I can try to record female ones for Sonya.

Well like I said, given that the stage is in broad daylight, it should be much warmer. Since it's out in the open, there's nothing that could provide any darker tones. If anything it should be really bright. I tried to grade the scene to the tone of the original stone structures, and many other edits (some unintentional), while leaving your sky intact. It's pretty rough, just to give you an idea really, I didn't spend much time on it. If you'd be willing to send me the PSD, I could really go to work on it to show you exactly how I think it should look. But it's up to you.

And the color variation in the sky wouldn't be enough IMO.

We won't be remaking the voices, original ones will be used, edited for better quality. Everything apart from voices will be remade.

This remake is looking incredible.

I understand why you can't charge for this project; if you could, I'd gladly pay for this over MKAK.

@calactyte good job :)
I just want to ask about angle whether the direction of the shadow of the statue and trees etc. will coincide with the fighters in the foreground? Because tnot be in opposite directions at the end. The ideal option Otherwise, each stage, each fighters have own specific shadows and lighting.

I actually like Jarvis' overlay. It gives the arena a warmer vibe to it, giving it a closer look to the arcade version.

Looks perfect to me. I was wondering, Bleed do you have After Effects and the Revision Effect Reel Motion Blur Plugin? It'd be perfect for these animations. It adds motion blur to fast movements by using an algorithm. Much faster than running motion blur in 3ds Max. If you'll send me a sample character sprite I'll show you how it might help us out.

I have After Effects, but I hardly ever use it. I'm not sure if I have the plugin, but you can try with one of these .gif animations.

I can separate the frames but if you have photoshop, it's easy to do.

You open the .gif animation and it should create the separate layers automatically. Now go to File>Scripts>Export Layers to files.

If you don't have this option, let me know and I'll gladly do it for you.
