Dont forget Cage, his zoning is close combat. And SZ and CSZ should be removed from the poll. Well maybe CSZ has a little zoning but SZ has none.

Zoning is the ability to control space. Sub-Zero definitely has the tools to keep other characters at a optimal distance. His ice clones in particular make it difficult for characters to approach him. Cage is more of a rushdown character.

Zoning is about CONTROLLING SPACE, not just shooting pretty projectiles. And Sub is one of the best at it. Along with Noob, Shang, Sindel, Ermac and Reptile.

Not sure why you're asking me that as I did not create this poll lol.
Mileena can zone for sure with her otg sais. That being said I don't see Mileena as "one of the best zoners" in the game. She's more of a counter/mid-range/mixup character.
IMO Liu Kang and Kabal are better than Mileena at zoning because they can shoot low in addition to otg a projectile.

And why not Kitana? She has a freakin' air projectile like mileena, a ground projectile, and an evasion move that moves her across the screen @_@

imo noob is the best zoner, and thats not just because hes my main lol.
he has no real midfield combos (unless you count the one that starts with a reg black hole, hard to use cuz its so slow) and nearly all his strings send the opponent midscreen or further away.
his charge is extremely fast and difficult to jump, you HAVE to block it after knockdown because of the timing, hes got a mixup with his slide, and he can create space almost on reaction with his upknee which is also one of the best anti airs in the game.
sub zero id say may be second best, he doesnt have the number of fullscreen options that noob has, but he has one of the best trading projectiles in the game, and one of the best moves to control your opponents movement, ESPECIALLY non teleporters with iceclone, and in the corner he can walk all over you and you cant rush him. hes one of the best at stopping rushdown.
sindel may be third, the combination of air/high/low fireballs is always hard to counter
ermac and reptile may be in a similar place for different reasons. ermac has instant hit ranged attacks that can lead into combos for lots of damage making it a pain to block since you cannot do it on reaction, but his spacing is tighter then regular zoning as he wants to be between semic lose to midscreen for his zoning to be truly effective. reptile on the other hand has 3 different speed projectiles that can be put in the air nearly at the same time. fast ball, slow ball, and spit. and the balls can lead into damaging combos as well, his trouble is that his force balls are somewhat slow to cast.
these are my observations/opinions at least. im sure peoples will vary

I completely agree that Cage isn't a good zoner at all, but I also wouldn't say that Sub is one of the best at it.
Sub's freeze attack is very slow, easily avoidable and countered by the faster projectiles that most other characters have. His ice clone is also useless against anyone smart enough to not constantly run into it.
Is there something I'm missing? What makes Sub a good zoner in your opinion? And I'm not arguing against your opinion, just legitimately interested in what you think makes him good at it.

his projectile may be slow but thats why you dont use it offensively, you use it in combos, and in trades or the occasional mindgame. it ALWAYS wins in trades because even from fullscreen he is gonna get a hit in even if its just slide.
his iceclone...completly shuts down rushing, controls your opponents space, is fast (can be done on reaction in some situations) and leads to full combos of which subzero has some very damaging ones. he can use it as a shield, defensive punish, space control, as baiting, there is a entire mindgame assosciated with that damn clone. its very good.
he clones you try to zone against him you are gonna eat a iceball and get hit with either a full combo or a slide
he clones and youd ont stop rushing you get punished by full combo
you can not let him get any space AT ALL or he can clone, and it can be difficult to react to in those situations
vs teleporters he can use it as bait and move in front of it
in the corner he can reduce your movement to next to nothing with it. his clone is very powerful when used correctly.

I know a lot about this game and i know what zoning is,I think you are the troll, and who is the jerk who neg-repped me bacause i said SZ is not a zoner, I cannot believe people -rep when they dont agree with the other person.

Interesting points... but as a Reptile player, when I exchange projectiles with Sub-Zero, sure, I may get frozen, but usually my acid spit/ball hits him as well, which prevents him from being able to get a slide in on me because the Ice has already worn off by the time his slide reaches me, by then I'm blocking.
Ice clone gave me problems when I was first starting out, but now I know when to expect it most of the time, and I just throw projectiles until the clone is gone, then rush in with a dash.
I mean... maybe Reptile is just a good counter against him. Perhaps other characters have much more of an issue with him than I'm aware of.

Sub Zero is a terrible zoner(Unless a good player uses him and thats rare). All I ever have to do to subby is barrage him with fireballs and he just takes them not knowing what to do. Then he slides and I do a quick Step Up and im back to zoning. I have never gotten below 50% to a sub zero player on any round. Johnny CAN zone, but hes really made for rushdown players. Zoning with him is not taking advantage of his character.
