The Lazyiness of MK9's Fatalities and more...

It comes from a long line of half-assed MK efforts ever since UMK3. A lot of people on here are fans of the older games, but see the 3D games as cheap knock offs or under developed product with MK logos on them. From crappy movies to less-than-stellar games released for over a decade, it is the fans wanting the VERY BEST MK experience team NRS has to offer. Not just a shiny skin on a tired and rehashed way of thinking. The term lazy is used properly, IMO when referring to the fatalities we've seen so far. Kung Lao's fatality for MK2011 was and has been a favorite not because it is simply gorier than the others, but because it's execution is intense. The build up and aftermath to the gore is what most of these fans who fall under the "NRS is being lazy" category (and correct me if I'm wrong guys) are referring to. If you just swing swords, fans, and arm blades all day and cut people up that starts looking repetitive ... aka... lazy. The fatalities of each of the combatants should have as much personality befitting them as their new intros, winning stances, voice overs, etc. NRS developed a system of 'cut points' discussed deeper here... http://www.trmk.org/forums/showthre...s-Fatalities-and-more...?highlight=cut+points ... to create a toolset that minimizes the amount of development time needed to produce a fatality. If you are unhappy with the exact adjective used to describe the monotony of the fatalities we've seen, then pick from several others.... cheap, un-creative, un-inspired, dull, repetitive, and so on.

I've had my disagreements with you on this topic, but that is really an excellent post you've written. Definitely puts things in perspective for me.

Thanks Jarvis. At the end of the day we are ALL MK Uber-fans. And I know we ALL want the best MK game ever made with MK2011. In this I believe we should be and ARE united.
 
I jus twanna kow what the **** is wrong with the mk team and why they can never hit the bulls eye.......if i was them Id hire some new ideas men

Yeah, we all want a perfect MK. The problem is, NRS cannot satisfy everyone, there's always gonna be stuff that some fans don't like. For example, I like most of the fatalities already released. I still miss burning, melting and stuff, but I can't say I'm disappointed with the fatalities so far. Like Sub-Zero's fatality, they made a "simple" torso rip something very cruel and violent IMO. Still, most of you don't like the fatalities overall.
 
I noticed that MKcommunitymanager has favorited some of the fan-made fatality videos, shows that they are aware that some people are concerned about the fatalities.
I think its been mentioned that some of the nastier fatalities haven't been shown because they are too graphic and the ESRB won't allow it. We'll just have to wait and see if they actually deliver. Even though I don't give a shit about fatalities lol.

The game isn't even 100% complete yet. None of you have played it yet. You can't really judge it from what you have seen. Play it first, see how it is, then complain about it. I'm sure they will fix things before it actually gets released and if they don't, I could care less, as long as the game is fun to play. Anyway, I HOPE you're right, because if they don't change any of these fatalities, mega-fail NRS.

It is fans that have settled for poop for the past 10 years that have made everyone else worry so deeply about the little things in MK 2011. If we all just wanted a fun fighting game, there are SHIT-tons of excellent and fun fighting games to be had. What the fans want (EDIT: What I should say is what SOME fans want), IMO, is a fun and excellent Mortal Kombat game that does honor to its roots in the old arcade days.

Not even close to 50% have been shown. Several interview videos hint to the fact that what we've seen of them aren't even finished yet. I would love to believe this to be the case... but do to the barbie-doll kombat games of the past, I err on the side of pessimism.

Yeah, in actual video only 15 fatalities have been shown, including Sub-Zero's spine rip which would make him have 3 fatalities, which I doubt. (pre-order bonus, yeah.) This isn't included Mileena's second fatality that was broken up in her vignette.

There is assumedly 52 in total, so we've seen ~27% of them so far, and the game is coming in three months.
 
oh, ok. then you could say there is still "hope" right :D

Lets hope they do some polishing indeed! although it could have been worse...MKvsDC..now that game had horrible fatalities :(
 
i think they could do some interesting things with this "cut system". after all, the body can be sliced into 16 segments... its up to ed and the guys to find creative ways to sever the body... not that i wouldnt mind seeing some immolation/skin tearing

There is assumedly 52 in total, so we've seen ~27% of them so far, and the game is coming in three months.

game's probably gonna get pressed 2-3 weeks ahead of when it ships, so really I think you're looking at 2 months. Most of this time is going to be QA game play testing to try to catch as many bugs as they can before going gold. In other words, don't expect any wholesale changes to anything here, unless they've just been showing game play video of a fairly old build this entire time.
 
Man, I'm just not sure anymore. I want to believe it's all going to be totally sick d!ck and badass, but seeing Reptile's fatality was really disappointing. I mean, the man puked THROUGH Sub Zero's mask. Right through it. You'd think his face would melt up a bit, he'd vomit the acid, and then his guts get ripped out showing a gaping hole and his stomach melting.

going to buy this game, so dose that not show that we trust the makers to

I don't know how anyone can form an opinion on whether or not the completed product is good when we've seen 27% or less of the fatalities.

"ya know I watched the first 27% of the Lord of the Rings trilogy threw a shaky hand held camera someone had in the theater...and I don't see what all the hub bub is about..."
 
TBH this has been a part of every Mortal Kombat. Ugh, especially MK3 where 9 out of 10 where exactly alike (and why where there 3 heads and 18 legs in every explosion?). It does seem strange that so many are similar, especially when Boon said Warner Bros were not rushing them to get the game out. Lets just hope that when we see all of them that they're not all alike.

And lets also hope that if Quan Chi is in that he doesn't have the Giraffeality.
 
I say they focus on gameplay too. The fatalities can always come as DLC anyways, so they got plenty of time.
