First off, we'd like to apologize for the lack of updates. We all have been extremely busy and had some server issues that just now got resolved. There have also been quite a bit of work behind the scenes of TRMK and that work will surface soon. Sorry for the inconvenience, but now to the news.
We got some news from IGN Pocket
regarding the Game Boy Advance
port of Mortal Kombat
. As hinted in the Midway conference call last month, the GBA version of MK will indeed be a port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
and will be titled Mortal Kombat Advance
when it's released on December 19, 2001
, if all things go according to schedule. You can see the game's box art on the right. It is currently being developed by Virtucraft, LTD
from the UK who also have worked on two other GBA titles and numerous other GBC titles. IGN Pocket
was expecting pictures of the port, but never came through with them. It almost seems that Midway wants to keep the title's graphics top secret until the game is out or until it is looking decent. (The MKAdv
Release Date and Box Art are from EBWorld and subject to change before release)
Also MK Lead Programmer Ed Boon's
has been covering any print media news on Mortal Kombat 5
and Mortal Kombat Advance
, so be sure to go check out his site for more information on MK in the print media.
The aforementioned conference call last month mentioned bits not only on Mortal Kombat Advance
but also Mortal Kombat 5
. It's current target release date is September 2002
for all three major consoles. Midway's CEO, Neil Nicastro, said that it will aim to "truly revolutionize fighting genre in same way the original game did in the early 1990s."
He also did mention that no Midway software will be hardware exclusive, but he didn't comment on possible "special arrangements"
that could be made with each hardware vendor.
