It appears that we were correct yesterday about the rumors. Forum member Khaos from MKOutworld.net has provided us the following scans of issue #154 of Game Informer that has the details of the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. The issue contains a four page article on the upcoming game, featuring a few screenshots and renders for all 60 playable characters! Check them out below.


The article discusses the storyline of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and how the MK Team is going to wipe the slate clean on the current generation of game consoles and move onto next generation systems after this game. We won't give away the storyline just yet, because you should go out and buy the issue for those details, but we can say a winner will finally be decided once and for all.

Here is a quick run down of the features mentioned in the article:

• At least 60 playable characters, "all the characters from Mortal Kombat fighting history". But they do mention that Motaro may not make the cut. Character select screen is so large that it has to rotate to reveal them all.


• Create a Kombatant system for customizable characters.


• The Fatalitiy system will be "reinvented," but no elaboration on that yet.


• Air Combo system implemented that allows string combos in mid-air.


• Throws can now be executed so that you toss the opponent where you want to. This helps with stage deathtraps, making them much more of a threat than before.


• Konquest mode is now based off of the Shaolin Monks engine. This will allow the game to much more dynamic and expansive.


• Game to be released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in October 2006.

I, for one, am very excited and overwelmed to see the amount of content this game is going to have. Let's hope Midway can pull it off and make this the best Mortal Kombat game ever.

Wow. This thing is obviously going to be huge. Damn, I can't wait. I must say, Boon's comments leave me slightly worried about the future of the series, though.

Is it just me... or is Scorpion missing from the picture of all the fighters?

Scorpions does not appear at the scans (even that his name is in the photo with the characters) This sure will be the greatest MK ever. But I'm not sure that it will go to PS2 and Xbox.

Scorpion is in the middle of the two pages... And like other (cyrax, Sonya) seems to have been cut off....

Oh my God! Boon finally listened to his public. I'm pretty sure the majority of people (including myself) have suggested a form of MKT2 or at least a new MK with all the characters similar to MKT. Wow, I used to hate Ermac and Rain with a passion, and even after Ermac's return in MKD gave him the respect he deserves, I still could not see the same happening for Rain, but my God he looks sooo cool, and the Dragon teeth weapon style suits him. I'm actually thrilled about what they are doing. However, I am eager to know the storyline more so, but am also aware that you believe it is best that you do not give it away, so I was wondering where this issue is because I've been looking and I cannot seem to find it. . Any way of helping? Do you think vs. Mode will be like in MKSM? If there is one definate winner, could this mark the possible end of MK? So many questions!

Honestly? As snazzy as it is, its not that improved. It just looks like Midway just took Deception, enabled the other characters from Deadly Alliance, and added a few new characters. As much as I love Mortal Kombat, and as much as I'm going to pre-order it when available, I don't think it was that unexpected. I don't like Rain's appearance at all, I thought they would unmask Rain and give him a short of hairstyle involving black short hair or something, but he looks like a Ravey mexi-can. A few things really look exciting though, like the Create-A-Kombatant option. I don't even think I'd use the other 60 characters with the Kombatant Creation feature. Also, the Konquest mode looks promising, maybe you'll use your custom character in Konquest mode, and once beaten, you use him in versus, etc. (Similar to Shujinko). Also, the Multi-directional throwing would definitely help in the combo department. Plus, the sheer excitement of it is overpowering. Honestly, right now Armageddon looks like a 9.5/10. I would of liked it if they edited the characters more.. but who knows, its coming out October, maybe they've all been changed again.

Then what would the use of him being Rain be? Rain was only in one MK game and is known as being a purple ninja, who doesn't really have a big storyline. Revamp his look that much by unmasking him and you might as well create a new character. It's looking pretty good so far. I just hope the arcade mode is built up more than it was in MKDA and MKD.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking and because the name "Armageddon" sort of gives one the impression that everything is over after this. I'm just wondering who the final boss could possibly be. By the way they have the characters there, it looks like Blaze would be the final boss, but that seems really unlikely. Maybe Motaro is the sub-boss and that's why he's not shown along with the final boss.

Which already gives me doubts about MK.

Oh, and also, Meat is nowhere to be seen! I don't think I saw Kai or Jarek either.

Kai and Jerek are there, you can see them both in the 3rd and 4th picture (fighting). Jerek looks waaaaaaay different, and the only way I recognized Kai was by his arm-paint

For some reason, it wont let me enlarge the pic. Maybe it's cause im using firefox? I am soo stoked for this game though. I hope it has a classic feel to it.

Looks like the links for the scans were removed. My guess is that there's a legal issue.

Hmm... Not really the last game. according to that article this game will sum up everything from MK1, deciding once and for all who dies... Leaving a clean slate for the next games which is suppose to be the next generation. To cut a long story short it means a lot of characters are gonna die forever. But on the other hand, it does set things up for the next generation to follow. I wonder if the series will still carry the MK name, or will have an addition to its name or something (e.g. 'Mortal Kombat Neo', God I hope they don't use that now I've said that). Those articles seem to hint that Scorps... Subby... And stryker... Aren't gonna be in the next generatoin.

Yeah I think this will be the last game in which many of the characters will die and never be found. On the other hand there's a lot of features I'll be looking forward to :D Then again

You people are lucky you didn't get sued. Especially this site as it's commercial. That's major copyright infringement. Ripping off other people's work is downright wrong.

Do you think Boon and Co. would actually leave scorp. and Sub in the dust though. I highly foubt that. Honestly those guy's are MK!

I doubt those two will ever leave mk at all, Scorpion is Boon's favorite and Sub-Zero is a fan favorite.
