Normally, the
UK and other
European countries get screwed time and time again when it comes to getting release dates way off in the future from their
American counterparts.
Midway recognized this history and back in
May 2005 hired a new
Managing Director in industry veteran
Martin Spiess, who was hired away from
Atari.
"Driving growth in the European territories is a major initiative for Midway," said David F. Zucker, president and chief executive officer of Midway. "Midway has enormous potential for expansion in the European territory, and this is an opportunity to build one of the strongest sales, marketing and distribution companies in the industry," said Martin Spiess.
Therefore,
Midway spent a lot of efforts on the localization of
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (
Xbox,
PS2) and those efforts have paid off for gamers throughout
Europe, as the
UK is scheduled for release
today. For all other countries in
Europe,
Midway said they expected all other countries to release on
September 30th or throughout following week.

To kick off the
UK launch,
Midway hired one of the hippest
ad agencies,
Maverick Media, to produce an
extremely graphic television commercial for
Shaolin Monks. You can
watch the commercial on their website. TV definitely has some different rules in the
UK than in the
States. Crazy stuff, check it out.
[color=red]UPDATE: Reports are gathering that the game has been streeted in the
UK (and now
Austrailia) today! Just like the
US release, stores are receiving the game a little early. Call your local games store before you head out.
