9:06 AM CST -

Last week we noticed that Warner Bros. bought the Injustice.com domain last week, but it wasn't clear what the domain was for. Then yesterday Internet sleuth, superannuation, assumed it was an unannounced Turbine game. But since we were interested in the possible Injustice League tie-in, we started to keep an eye on the website because it could be any new WB project.

This morning, Injustice.com came online and is showing a surprise teaser for NetherRealm Studios' next fighting game, based in the DC Universe, Injustice: Gods Among Us. This is to be NetherRealm's second fighting game to feature DC Universe characters since the Mortal Kombat crossover Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, produced when the studio was still Midway Games. Unlike Mortal Kombat (2011), it looks like Injustice will also be available on the new Nintendo Wii U, in addition to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Currently, the release date has been broadly set to sometime next year, 2013.

Update 9:08AM: Looks like Gamespot has an exclusive Announcement Trailer for the game up. You can see it below:

The Injustice website is currently live with a few renders of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Harley Quinn and Solomon Grundy. The website also has Social Media links so that you can follow updates from the game creators directly from the source on both Twitter @InjusticeGame and Injustice on Facebook.

It's not entirely surprising to see another non-Mortal Kombat game from the studio. Since the release of Arkham City Lockdown earlier this year NetherRealm's Creative Director Ed Boon has openly said that non-MK games are being developed along side future MK games at the studio. When will see another Mortal Kombat game? That's yet to be seen, just Ed recently commented that Mortal Kombat 9 just came out last year. What we do know is that we're extremely excited to see another fighting game from NetherRealm Studios next year in 2013.

The game will likely be at E3 next week and we have sent Scott to cover the show for us. He will be working on bringing you news and thoughts directly from the E3 show floor and also the big 3's media briefings all next week. So be sure to follow us at @TRMK on Twitter and like our Facebook page. For non-specific E3 news next week also follow Scott at @Hawk_SE on Twitter.

Update 9:40AM: Now Gamespot has an interview up with Ed Boon about Injustice that goes into detail on the arenas and how they matter to the game. Also how DC Comics let them re-envision the character models a bit with their own twists.

Update 10am: We now have the full Press Release which you can read in it's entirety below:

C-sword is going to be mad pissed that you beat him to making this thread But yea, Looks interesting and because NRS is making it I'll give it a try.

Please for the love of glob, jebus and space ghost let nightwing be in it. Day one buy on batman alone. I take it It's not going to be a massively competitive game do to it being a 3d plane?

I hope it uses the same button set up as MK so I have another fighter to use my fightstick with!

This is awesome news! Eventhough I was waiting for some Mk10 news, I am happy with this. I hope this game plays alot better than MK Vs DC and I wonder how they will balance out the characters in the DC universe. Can't wait!

This could show just how good and versatile NRS's creative team is I'm looking forward to Nightwing taking out Batman. yeah that's right I said it. OMGGGGGGGGGG Green lantern. /dying my body isn't ready lol

This looks pretty awesome. I'm SO glad to see that it's not MKvsDc 2. Looks like I'm gonna be broke in 2013.
May 31st, 2012 10:03 AM CST - Kzaoo
Get hype!!!!! I can't wait to see how NRS pull this off. It looks quite dark and gritty, I really think thats a good thing. It was also a pretty good idea because they could re-use some of the animations from MKvsDCU (like they did with NPCs in the challenge tower in Mk9). I really want this!
May 31st, 2012 10:05 AM CST - Metal Overlord
I like some of the new character designs shown in the trailer
May 31st, 2012 10:11 AM CST - Flying Jinko
Looks like heroes and villains may switch roles in this game, brilliant concept. From the trailer it seems that the fighting will be on a 2.5D plane with cutscene like animations while executing super moves, similar to SF and MVC.
May 31st, 2012 10:40 AM CST - pgd42
Glad they kept mk out of this one and it looks dark! Can't wait to see how it actually plays and what the story is. I like the costumes too and it's about time someone updated superman lol
May 31st, 2012 11:19 AM CST - whtillnvrb
Can anyone tell for sure if it is going to be 3D, 2.5D or 2D with just with 3D animation for some moves? I am hoping for the later. Oh and correct me if I am wrong but even tho Lex isn't announced isn't that him that is facing off with Superman in the trailer before it goes to the game play? And for that matter they maybe another character in their too. You have Wonder Woman vs. Harley Quinn, Batman vs. Grundy, Superman vs. possibly Lex and The Flash vs. someone with ice. There is a number of ice villains in DC but my money would be on Freeze.

^^ in the interview it seems to be 2d but you can use things in the stage that are in the background or foreground. I'm mad they're not making another mk game but at least they're making a fighter. God I hope it's tournament worthy. I think it will be. Cheers to MK10 coming out in 2015.

I don't see how after the tournament success of Mortal Kombat 9 they wouldn't want to make this game also well balanced and tournament worthy. This is just the tip of the iceberg I have a feeling.

Same here. MK needs to stay as MK only. DC needs to stay as DC only.

Batman Wins Evo and stopped the joker only a few moments later. lol I hope it is tourny worthy. I want Superman and Darkseid not to be Op and have every superpower under the yellow sun. If they use the Mk fighting system as the core system for this game like Patman said it should be.
May 31st, 2012 12:05 PM CST - n9195v
I will be refreshing this site all weekend for some game play! Considering they had MK9 to play at e3 a year before it came out my money is on it being playable. I for one will be buying this day one! I don't even like super heros. I know bat man because of Christopher Nolan and I know the Flash because of the Queen song. That's the extent of my super hero knowledge. But I love how MK9 plays and I assume they're using the same engine with many tweaks. So I look forward to learning about all these heros and villains.

That would be cool. I hope they have costumes that make the dc characters dress like the mk guys. Like give Flash Kabal's costume! I doubt it though I think they will draw dlc from the never ending dc universe. ALSO GREAT NEWS !!! There will be a demo at E3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't count it out of the realm of possibility, especially since it's NRS making the game. Anything is possible. Hell, everyone laughed at the guy who said that Freddy Krueger would be in MK9, and who's laughing now?

Did they confirm that it's going to be in 2.5 D? It kinda looks 3D like MK VS DC.

The gameplay is 2d. read for proof http://www.giantbomb.com/news/the-mortal-kombat-team-has-a-new-fighting-game/4182/ I hope Swamp Thing is in this game! He'll probably be my main! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lU8vSa5se0

I'm so pumped for this game; I love comics and its awesome seeing DC having its own fighting game. My laptop actually blue-screened after I saw the trailer lmao. I can't wait to see the demo and the other characters they'll announce!
May 31st, 2012 1:42 PM CST - Nasty_Freak
Hmmm... I think I might get it because my younger sisters and my nephew always ask me to play MK with them but I can't when their parents are nearby. So maybe. If I will, Harley Quinn may be my character. Hopefully this will have finishers that are at least good as Marvel Nemesis. I would love it if this was gory like MK but I doubt it. Plus, I might want to play as Harley Quinn because she reminds me of Juliet Starling (Lollipop Chainsaw). And I bet an MK character or some MK characters will make appearances as mentioned above.
May 31st, 2012 1:45 PM CST - AlistairWonderland
wooo! i love dc comics (marvel too), i hope it has my favorite characters!
May 31st, 2012 1:47 PM CST - n9195v
I wonder if the 360 will screw it self out of content and a demo with this game too?
May 31st, 2012 2:01 PM CST - Nasty_Freak
I hope for a demo with those four characters at least. I hope Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Black Canary are here too. If there will be MK character appearances it would be Scorpion with characters from Earthrealm such as... Sub-Zero Raiden Sonya Johnny Cage Liu Kang Jax Stryker Kabal Kung Lao
May 31st, 2012 2:09 PM CST - mkray41
I like how the character designs seemed partly inspired by the "New 52" designs. I'd be totally down for a DLC that would include some, but not all, MK9 characters. I love how some of the websites that talk about Injustice pretty much assume that Scorps will be a preorder bonus or be in the game somehow lol.
May 31st, 2012 2:41 PM CST - Nasty_Freak
I really do hope for finishers because NRS is making this game. If it's T-rated, they can make it brutal and cool without the blood and gore. But I do hope it won't be as bad as MKvsDCU. I also bet Joker and Catwoman will make the cut without a doubt.
May 31st, 2012 3:05 PM CST - AMES32
If they're trying to prove that they aren't one trick ponies and can do other games why are they going to use something that will automatically make people think that's just Mk with Batman and Superman instead of Scorpion and Sub zero. I don't really think there will be scorpion dlc because of it being a Dc licensed game. Then again Kano was in lock down :hmmm:
May 31st, 2012 3:25 PM CST - Cyndrix
And here I thought Boon had learned his lesson about making T rated fighting games.

there's nothing wrong with another T rated game. MK vs Dc wasn't bad because of the T rating. This game could be rated E for all i care as long as it's a competent fighter.

My guess is 2015. Because production on a new game takes about two years now a days.

It's not an MK game. It's a DC game. They can make it without blood and gore, and it will do just fine.

Boon said that they went back to bringing blood in MK games. This DC fighting game has NOTHING to do with MK.

I doubt it'll be that late. It looks to be running on the MK9 engine mostly. The character models look like they were pulled right from the game actually. Not that thats a bad thing.

Bruces son's name is Damian Wayne his mom was Talia al ghul. He became Robin with Dick Grayson as Batman. For those who don't know who he's talking about. Tim Drake- Became the third Robin after the death of jason Todd.

I've started reading DC again, so I'm pretty pumped about this game. It looks good, it's made by NRS, and holds a lot of similarities to MK9. It's good to see them do another fighting game in a new franchise, and the trailer just oozes a renewed sense of vigour after great success with MK9. Good to see NRS finally getting the support they deserve. Can't see how this game will not be tournament worthy...but I guess we'll know for sure down the line.
And Damian Wayne doesn't have a problem killing people.

Please don't let the tail wag the dog. MK vs DC wasn't well liked because the mechanics were bad and due to Midway closing down wasn't supported after release. Do you really think that MK9 had the success it did soley on the blood and gore?

yep that's why I see him as more of a Jason Todd, Robin then a Grayson, Robin. He don't have a problem killing people because his mom trained him to be an assassin. Oh and bud you might wanna use the edit button so you don't get warned by a mod.

Ok when I heard about this at work today my jaw hit the floor. I was excited at first to hear the NRS was releasing another game. After watching the trailer I now have mixed feelings. The last time I saw flash and superman in a game I was being "infinited" (if thats even a word) to death. I guess you can say MK vs DC left a bad taste in my mouth. Once MK 9 came out I got rid of it and hoped to never speak of it again. And what do you know, NRS is gonna take another crack at it again. I just hope this game isn't another flop. Its a DC universe game so I cant be expecting over the top gore and xrays. I'm gonna have to lower my standards and expectations already. We'll see what this game has to offer. Good luck NRS

Um... I don't see where all your doubts are coming from? MK9 was a good game, and they are surely only gonna get better. Just because it's DC. I could understand your doubts if the last game they made was MKvsDC but it wasn't. When they take a step in the right direction my mind only thinks improvements. I think their team is becoming more and more aware of how to make good competitive games. They travel to their own MK9 tournaments and study/learn. Have some faith. My only unhype gripe was the way it looked when they used items within the stage. But if they can manage it so it's not a random factor it could be epic good idea. Look at Smash bros melee. The stage is a huge factor in each match. and it's one of it's charms.

Bold move by NRS. I like it! DC has needed this sort of treatment forever and a day. A (good!) DC only fighting game. Can't wait to try it out. When Boon describes the emphasis on environments and their usage, it gets me more pumped for the next MK game. It seems like they could run plenty of ideas through this game, only to solidify a damn good MK sequel for us fans. I'll be looking forward to Injustice and the oncoming news. I hope Bane, Nightwing, and Killer Croc are in this. All Batman characters. Go figure.

OMG, one more plastic-dolls-fighting. Nice. Great! Very good news, indeed. It's been a year since "new" MK is released. It's time to give us some MK10 teasers or at least MK mythologies or something Last 10 months all really positive and inspiring news were in the topic where guys create the fan MK HD in MUGEN. ^___^'' Would be really happy to see some MK news here, not the dcuniversesome, but MK news! And I'm still wonder. OK, the 2D sprite graphics died somewhere in 90x. OK. But in 2012, with nowadays technologies, and with PS3 and BOX360, it's possible to make the fighting look REAL, even in 3D! Why... why again and again plastic dolls conquer the world?

Doesn't have to make sense, it's a fighting game, it's like saying Kratos should've not been in MK, he's a god, how do characters like Sonya and Stryker stand a chance against him?

Well in MK vs DC they explained character power variations which happened due to merging of the realms or something. Also this game is entirely set in the DC universe without any outside influences, o I kinda feel that they should stay true and original to the character and work around that unless they are doing a different take on him or something.

Well I'm glad that you enjoyed that ;D haha. I have mixed feelings about this though. I know that NRS knows how to make a good solid game now that they made MK9, but honestly they are just adding gimmicks to this and it seems like just another casual fighter to slap a name on it to get money. It's possible that it could be good, or at least decent, but I think everyone is getting their hopes up for nothing. Just like they did for MK Vs DC.

To be fair, Flyman, stuff like that are just gameplay mechanics. Think about it, why is Shang Tsung able to perform the Soul Steal fatality on the cyborgs in MK3 despite them being soulless? The same applies to Batman and Solomon Grundy

I'm afraid they'll pull out something stupid like the Rage from MKvsDC that allowed the Joker to kick people's asses.

Not every fighter needs to be tournament viable It would be nice if they all were, but sometimes people want a game where anyone can win. The gameplay mechanics haven't been fully revealed and I haven't seen any matches, but I would be just fine if this game wasn't as deep as Street Fighter. I never expected it to be. MK9 isn't that deep to begin with. So many horrible factors like a broken training mode, player 1 advantage, NRS not even knowing their own frame data and poor balance decisions.
June 1st, 2012 7:46 PM CST - PizzaMasta
I don't understand why "different" would instantly mean "gimmicky" however. It seems players will have to learn not only character movesets but stage elements in order to succeed. It's not like most fighters, but this is what Boon said he's intending to achieve with Injustice. However, I seriously hope Netherrealm can succeed at making every character unique both in character movesets and in stage interactions to keep every one of them unique. I am personally excited for this game, but I will wait until proper E3 gameplay before truly judging the game.

Hmmm. Although I haven't checked out the new 52 DC comics, I like the outfits they got on for a fighting game. Batman has that armor to prevent major damage to his body from godlike attacks. Hmm, it would be mad cool if they had the VAs from the Justice League series, voicing once more for that game. It would be so kickass.

When I first heard of this I just couldn't contain my joy and excitement. I love the DC universe. They have the best heroes and villains. I also love the way NRS did MK a year ago, minus the shitty netplay. MK 2011 was so balanced. I remember being able to hold my own against the top tiers in online mode with Stryker and whoever else I wanted. So I think I'm going to pick my mains on preference and not on where it's placed on an official tier list. That being said I think I'm going to rep Superman and Harley Quinn . Their costumes look so boss, not to mention the special moves

I'mma go Nightwing even if he's the lowest ranked character on every teir list of course I'm gonna have Darkseid and Green lantern as my second and third but my main will be Nightwing.
