For years fighting game fans wanted a
Mortal Kombat game at the biggest fighting game tournament in the world the
Evolution Championship Series (aka Evo). The last few entries into the Mortal Kombat series were not allowed for various reasons, but appears this year that streak will end.
According to a Google Cache of a leaked draft of the
Evo 2011 Registration Page, it is confirmed that
Mortal Kombat (2011) is in fact on the list of games for this year's
EVO World Finals tournament.
The
EVO World Finals will take place at the
Rio in Las Vegas the weekend of
July 29-31 2011. Word is this news will be officially unveiled tonight on
Shoryuken.com. Also keep an eye out for when registration opens on the official
Evo 2011 website and also check out the
various Evo 2011 Season Events for events closer to your home. Who is ready to battle against the best players in the world at Mortal Kombat?

tonight at 9:30pm EST. We will update this story once the announcement is made tonight with any new details it tells us.
Update 9:05pm CST: As we noted earlier,
Mortal Kombat (2011) was just confirmed to be at the
EVO World Finals 2011 on the
Wakeup, Shoryuken podcast. They said they have been talking to developers at
NetherRealm Studios to get the game into the Tournament. It hasn't been decided that you can do two on two tournament at this time, and you wont be able to use the console exclusive character
Kratos in the tournament without being banned.
Registration for the event should be up on the
Official Evo 2011 website within a few days.
