There is a strange "blur" effect on the vids from Mk1, MK2 and MK3 : do you think it could be footage from MK HD Arcade Kollection ??

I hope it's the original MK 1, 2 and 3 footage. Today's HD technology should look A LOT better than that, since they were re-shooting the MK characters (in HD) for the Kollection.

It's clearly old MK footage upscaled, hence the bars on the side and the blurriness in the video.
October 4th, 2010 1:07 PM CST - Jinko
The sound effects, however, may be from the HD Remix. Unless its from MK9.

I'm sorry, but for me it looks more like a footage from HD Kollection ! Just take a look at the original MK3 pit fatality on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ru7UgrEy1I : in the new vid, the blades are turning much FASTER ! And the game looks smoother too... no ? of course, MK1-MK2-UMK3 with new actors would be GREAT for fans like you and me, but i'm not sure that WB puted a lot of money for a game sold 30 dollars, and which appears like oldies for most players......
October 5th, 2010 6:11 AM CST - thexx25
... but of course, i still want to believe that new actors were filmed in HD a few weeks ago ! Crossed fingers !!

The blades turn faster than that on every version I've played. There's an issue with the frame rate or something on that video. Unless they have shots that are crisp and clear on a 720 video, there's no way to know if the visuals are from the HD Kollection.

I'm sorry, those of you thinking the footage is from the HD Remix are blind! The HD Arcade Kollection will be presented in a widescreen, high definition format with new actors! Not upscaled old sprites with a standard definition aspect ratio...

exactly. The new HD remakes are not in this video, and the sounds are from MK9.

Yeah we already got those crappy upscaled stretched versions of the game, people WILL be able to tell the difference once they see it.

Hope you're right, guys ! Anyway, a little more than 2 months until we know the truth ! (and play UMK3 online with a PS3 !!!!)

I love the idea of playing all 3 MK's on my PS3. Personally though, I'm more excited about playing the rumored MK 9 demo, that comes with the HD Kollection.

No, it's not a rumor. It was konfirmed a while ago right here at trmk.org, that live actors would be re-filmed in HD for these MK remakes. http://www.trmk.org/news/13089/mortal_kombat_hd_kollection_confirmed_in_development.html

You know, I don't understand the sealed lips about the HD Kollection. I'm getting tired of the (usual) guessing games, speculations and rumors. And I'm starting to believe more and more by the day, that this game won't make its November release. @Patrick McCarron can we expect an update on this story or haven't you guys heard anything from your sources?
October 6th, 2010 7:16 PM CST - Sub-Zero
The video is awesome, I love the added lore with a reason for the spikes. Stages just used to be stages, now they've given them back story to make you appreciate why you're fighting there. Also giving us more sense of accomplishment I'd say for finishing someone, seeing the long history it's been given and the pride Shang Tsung takes in seeing someone fall to their death.

I actually like the sealed lips. It makes it more exciting to not know exactly what they are doing with the game. Even if it doesn't make it's November release, I don't mind, I am more concerned with them taking their time to work on the game and make it right instead of rushing and ruining a classic series.
October 6th, 2010 7:31 PM CST - Sub-Zero
rushing, pushing and video games do not mix. They could release it next year in November and I wouldn't care as long as it's a good game and not some crap pile sucking dollars out of my pocket.

If you're talking about MK 9, I agree. If it's the HD Kollection that you're talking about, I'd hope that it would be out THIS November, after all the teasing that they (WB) have been doing. It would be aggravating to have the HD Kollection turn out to be be vapor-ware.
October 6th, 2010 11:43 PM CST - Jinko
I won't be disappointed if it doesn't come out next month. Most of the recent MKs were lacking due to their rushed development. It's one thing I'm excited about MK9. Such a far release date yet the game looks polished already. MKHDK on the otherhand, along as we know its in development. I can wait all year (and I don't mean two more months lol).
October 7th, 2010 3:46 AM CST - thexx25
I'm sure that WB have planned to release MKHD Kollection before MK9 ! It would be "funny" if the MK9 demo came out in november 2011, 6 months after MK9 (in april 2011) ... But i really doubt that MK HD can be release in november ! Re-shooting new actors for those 3 classics games, making new HD backgrounds and new DTS sounds is a HUGE work, that can't be done in a few months... plesae, get news soon
October 7th, 2010 5:22 AM CST - Jinko
It may be huge work, but we are not certain on when they even started the MKHDK Project.

This cannot be MK HD collection, Shang Tsung is still being played by John Turk in this video. Something is different though, notice how shang's life bar is blinking?

The capture program isn't running at the same frame-rate as the game does. It's the same reason the blades seem to spin slower.

http://www.trmk.org/news/13089/mortal_kombat_hd_kollection_confirmed_in_development.html Resorting to hand-drawn characters, or using 3D models in place of real actors would just not look right and cause many fans to revolt. However, things are not as simple as that. Since the previous actors are now 20 years older and - in most cases - wouldn't look to be the right age in high definition, Warner Bros. has hired new actors for the various roles and have been busy capturing them over the past few months at a Warner Bros. Studio in Los Angeles. This was a "past few months" from August 17th, 2010. Meaning, that it could have been filmed some time in January or February of this year, for all we know. I don't think it's impossible for this HD Kollection to be out by November or December, if it was filmed back then.

I don't think you need to reshoot every single move over and over for each collection. Consider the fact that really, all they have to do is reshoot a scorpion character one time and incorporate him into each collection. You get a team of guys who are on top of their shit, who need very minimal direction and the fact that they already have a source material to go off of, it's totally feasible to see an HD collection made in about 3 months time. Given even that, they could have been working on this thing for a while and the release of the HD collection was just as deliberate as the MK 9 release. I don't think the HD collection was at all last minute. The programming for the games are already there, so there's nothing really there to worry about. They're not building this from the ground up, they're just redoing the graphics and sound to be HD. That's not exactly a herculean task for a team of people that knows how to do it already. They're no stranger to this stuff.
October 7th, 2010 2:18 PM CST - Patrick McCarron
We know that some filming took place back in August, but as kontankarite said, it's not a "herculean task" for pros. The time frame is also why I feel that you wont see anything drastic changing in the games, you wont see new characters or anything else. It's simply an HD-ing of an old arcade game, frame by frame. The graphics are the hardest, the sound and programming are mostly already there. This isn't a task to make the best MK game ever, it's to make the old classics look the same just "better" with crisp HD graphics. Their goal of making the "best MK game" is Mortal Kombat (2011). That's where the new ideas and improvements come into play. The reason they likely didn't use the HD game footage for a game that is likely near completion already is that they haven't announced it yet. Right now I know that they are using lots of archived game footage in these new videos they are making. Footage that was likely put together a long time ago. Once they know that a certain video is coming out AFTER the MKHD announcement, then you'll likely start seeing the newer game footage used whenever possible.

Agreed. Just because we heard about it in August, doesn't mean that they didn't start on it, way before that. For all we know, they could have started filming in March, and FINISHED filming in August. We don't know that.

Exactly, I am sure they kept the filming a secret (maybe for the security of the actors?). What intrigues me the most is to see how they'll manage with the actor's faces. I can't imagine a new face for sub zero or Kano (although john turk still has his gym running and is still in perfect shape).

The versus and ending photos is what I'm wondering about the most. Changing of the in-game sprites the faces wont look too much different, as the resolution of the old games was not the best. But in the end, it's not the actor we worry about but the character itself.
