Midway has announced today that Mortal Kombat Kollection for the PlayStation 2 has been released and is in stores now. Mortal Kombat Kollection contains three of the most recent Mortal Kombat hits, including Mortal Kombat: Deception, the action-adventure game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, and the roster-busting Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

In anticipation of the launch of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe on current-generation consoles Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, a large number of PlayStation 2 systems are still in people's homes. Midway is planning on capitalizing on the increased exposure of the Mortal Kombat franchise by releasing this special collector's edition box set exclusively for the PlayStation 2. Mortal Kombat Kollection is in stores now and is priced at $29.99.

30 bucks is a bargain for these 3 games. Shaolin Monk is a very very fun game. Deceptions konquest is awesome, and Armageddon has all characters with motor kombat. Very nice package. If i had a ps2/ps3 i would probably buy this.

this doesn't seem like the wisest business decision midway's ever had, but i'm game to get this just for shaolin monks. i'll be the only dude on my block with 2 copies of armageddon and deception. finally i'm becoming a crafty consumer!

1 good game for the price of 3? No thanks. And where is DA? It was by far the best of the 3 true fighting games (as SM's is more of an adventure game)

Here's hoping it helps non-MK players get into MK.

Yea I wish it had been Deadly Alliance in place of Armageddon. But really, MKSM is worth the 30. I left my copy at home since i don't have an original Xbox anymore and can't use my save data on my 360. Buying it again doesn't really solve that problem though so I probably won't get this anyway. I've already beaten Deception 100% 3 times so I don't think I need to do it again.

I STILL have all three of these games with me, even Deadly Alliance.

Midway should go back into the arcade business with Mortal Kombat...just look at Capcom with Street Fighter IV... MKVDCU would have been a great starter for going back into the arcade business...

+1 I mean, now that this game is rated for teens WHY NOT?

No reason at all! Except of course the huge cost of setting up arcade machines when arcades across America are basically dead and it has no following in Japan where arcades are still lively and even if they released it there they'd be competing against Capcom's latest hit and get even less money on their investment than they would and stuff..... But yea, other than that no reason at all!

HELL YES. Except as stated above, there isnt alot of places to put those cabs, but they really REALLY need to bring back WAVENET 2008!!! Wuhoo!!! SFIV, TvC, Tekken 6 are all hitting the arcades, and I want MK9 to be the same. Total 2-D gameplay, tons of secrets, almost an entire NEW roster of characters. Wow, I got all tingley thinking about it. lol

Well, in a less sarcastic manner let me explain why that can't happen. Arcades in the USA are dead. I can't say anything for the UK. But in Japan arcades are still lively and you see new games (as mentioned above by Tim) are still being released. But as we all know, MK is a western franchise and has a miniscule following in Japan. Considering that is the only venue feasable at this time and the low following, there is yet one more obstacle in the path of MK's return to it's original platform. COMPETITION. Street Fighter, Tekken, etc. are more popular, tying into MKs unpopularity, and they are established in Japanese arcades. For MK to get a foothold you would first need to make it appeal to Japanese consumers (thus isolating a portion of the western following) and give it the "wow factor" to go up against the encumbants. In short, it ain't happenin'.

Arcades aren't dead in the US it's just now that there are a few large arcades like the golflands and chuck-e-cheeses, but most places like movie theaters and malls still have arcades and the occasional bars and of course college campuses have arcade machines. I mean SF4 is at a college in SF and a college in San Jose. In fact check this out: SF4 worldwide locations http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=165008

When I saw the title of this thread I was all excited... for about six seconds, then the page loaded up and I realized that it's not the type of kollection that I was hoping for. I still want to see all the old klassics compiled on one disc. MK, MKII, MK3, UMK3, MKT and maybe even MK4 should be released as a compilation. If they can release twenty or more games (which included MKII and MK3) on one disc for the Midway Treasures, then surly they could compile all the old MK's for a Klassic Kombat Kollection.

You can easily cram MK1-MKT onto one disc, it's the newer games that take up a lot of space.

Forget about the newer games. They are still selling and have no need for a re-release anyway. It's the golden olies that should be piled together.
