MK Universe, a Mortal Kombat fan-site based out of Luxembourg, has posted a video interview (wmv, 55.1MB | YouTube Part I, YouTube Part II) with Creative Director, Ed Boon. In this english-language interview, quite a few interesting and unknown details about Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe are revealed.

First off, MK vs DC Universe will be region-free, meaning the game disc from each part of the world will work worldwide. The European PAL versions of the game will be released at the same time as their North American NTSC counterparts. In addition, some bad news for PAL regions as the Limited Edition version of the game will not be released in PAL territories, but that has been the case for the last few releases.

The development team is shooting for two fatalities per character. Boon also explains that the yellow eyes that each character has when performing a fatality is a product of the "Rage" angle the storyline features. The color is significant as that is the same color the glowing aura that envelops your character when you enable "Rage Mode".

In other storyline details, the collision of the two worlds is started by Superman and Raiden. The basic idea is that there are two events that happen at the same time and at the same place in the two dimensions. That starts the two universes overlapping and characters from one universe being transported to the other. The whole story deals with the characters invading each others' universe and why. Also, the end boss is a character that MK Fans will not be familiar with and Shang Tsung cannot morph in the game due to technical reasons.

The training mode will be more elaborate than those featured in the last two games. Also, there will not be any death traps in the arenas. Character endings will not be in-game cinematics, but will be artwork graphics with a narrated storyline and text.

Finally, in an attempt to get at the names of hidden characters, Boon states that Reptile is not in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Overall a pretty interesting interview that reveals a lot of details that aren't available yet, including some details on the script of a possible new Mortal Kombat Movie. Check it out! Thanks LeoTMNT.

So the MK boss is someone we don't know/aren't too familiar with? Who could that be!?

Not sure, but it is definitely DC, maybe Doomsday, and whom ever it is will explain more into this whole Rage thing.

Yeah, got to be someone from DC's side. Doomsday makes sense seeing as he can never die the same way, but is there a god like character in DC? I know there is one in Marvel.

Death traps were awesome. Im going to miss those. Character endings are going to suck. Why cant they just delay the game a month or two and have sick cinematic endings. On to the boss: They better not have an only DC boss. That gives DC a huge advantage in the game. Kindof like saying MK isnt good enough. I hope its a brand new boss, rather than just a DC boss. I like the idea of Dual bosses from MK and DC.

Character endings won't suck, a lot of effort gets put into those art talented endings. And we're getting GGI cut scenes anyway in the storymode which Boon confirmed in another recent interview within the past month.... It'll be DD, Brainiac or Darkseid I'm sure....maybe, maybe Imperiex but that's a stretch.

That sucks. Why does DC get the boss? (assuming its a DC character) Kahn is just as good as any of those guys.

That confirms something I suspected, and puts my heart at rest. I pretty much knew that PAL territories wouldn't get the collectors' edition, so I preordered it from the US, but it was playing on my mind that it wouldn't work on my PS3. I'm so glad it will.

maybe it's a hybrid boss, a fusion of maybe shao kahn and maybe dark seid. remember that the realms are merging.
August 27th, 2008 1:04 AM CST - Goraka
It says on Worlds Collide "When a cataclysmic force merges conquerors from two universes". I'm with Squirrel.

I hope Kahn is in the game even if he isn't the FINAL boss. He didn't say there wouldn't be boss-type characters from MK he just said the FINAL boss won't be someone we know. Merged conquerors? That sounds wierd...if so that's probably Darkseid and Kahn.

No software for the PS3 is region locked. No matter what game it is, it wont matter because all versions of PS3 games will play on any PS3

I do think Kahn should be in the game, but as a boss only. He it total MK bad ass, and he certainly deserves to be a boss, but I would want him as a playable character, which I know your wanting. (And this goes for Goro, Kintaro & Motaro - FTR) But he cant be so bad ass without his overly high damage & stupid AI, lol, stupid MK2 & 3. Or Doomsday & Goro as the bosses, lol. I dont know, but I have some faith Ed & comp wont screw this part up.

Yeah, that's another thing that makes me wonder. Either it'll be a DC character Villian or an all "new" hybrid character that's the vibe I got with Boon's answers.

He didn't mention that it would be just MK fans that don't know the boss, he just said that we wouldn't know him. It's not necessarily a known DC character, it could be a new collaberative character made just for the game

Ta da! Yes it does my friend.
August 28th, 2008 2:15 PM CST - Goraka
That does, but Boon didn't say that in the interview. He said it will be a character that we will not know, not MK fans specifically. To just assume that MK fans won't have heard of a DC villain is stupid anyway, as quite a number of us, myself included, are comic fans.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking like a newer "hybrid" character or someone perhaps made up by both Midway/DC(but I don't think this will be it because both Midway and DC said early on there willl be no "new characters from either side" introduced...so who knows lol. I'm thinking hybrid boss honestly
August 30th, 2008 7:48 AM CST - Snow
Boon said that they aren't going to do "new" characters for this game. What I mean by that is he's not going to do what Marvel/EA did creating the Imperfects, because those characters were never heard from again. My point is that it makes perfect sense to have a merged boss.
August 30th, 2008 9:40 AM CST - Glamador
I don't think that's what he meant but "new characters". I mean, is Onaga or Moloch really a "character" anyway? Both their stories could fit on a toothpick. I think it's perfectly possible for there to be a one-shot character as a boss. If he's popular enough he might make his way into the mainstream for one of these two franchises. But still, I don't think that's likely at all. A merged boss is much better but it would have to be done really well...not like, Kahn's left arm i sticking ouf of Darkseid's chest. No putty amalgam either. A real merger taking elements of both but still being "something more". But I have great faith in the MK art team and I think it will be kick ass whoever it is.
August 30th, 2008 2:11 PM CST - boJac
The Anti-Monitor would be a good boss.
August 30th, 2008 2:13 PM CST - MKF30-mkdc
Yeah, it'll most likely be a hybrid character labled as "a new character" just for this game but since this isn't canon it won't be " an official new character" know what I mean?
