The folks over at Mortal Kombat Online have been given the go ahead to release an image prior to the Midway Gamers' Day embargo of Friday, April 18th 4:00pm PDT (6:00pm CDT). Since we appreciate the collaborative efforts of MKO while out at Midway Gamers' Day, we'll be kind to simply point you to their website to check out the picture.


As of now, there is nothing else that we can reveal right now until the end of the press embargo. The game's official website WorldsCollide.com will one day feature content, but currently features a default setup page. Soon on TRMK you can expect a trailer, several images, and some detailed information on the new Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe game fairly shortly after it expires. Until then, head on over to our new Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Forum and discuss the latest revelations with fellow fans.

I'm with you Goraka. I'm excited. I always said I wouldn't mind too much if it was MK vs. DC. I think it's rather fitting actually. MK and SF have had their rivalries, and Marvel and DC have as well. It's suitable that MK gets paired with the darker and grittier of the two competitors to team up against the more "kid-friendly" Marvel vs. Street Fighter. I know there are alot of questions like "will there be blood and fatalities anymore?" and "How will they mesh the story together from two totally different universes?" and "If they pull this off how will it not be totally gimicky?". I know it's hard, but we'll have news tomorrow and hopefully the trailer will put our minds at ease. Be optimistic people! Don't write it off before you've seen ANYTHING about it!

Seems like the majority isnt liking this idea. I do agree that some of the DC characters like Joker, Batman, Carnage, and Venom are suited in a mortal kombat game. But there is no way they will allow fatalities, and blood in a DC game. Which is going to make the game seem more for kids. Its going to take away the mortal kombat feel from its characters. I mean how do you play a fighting game with mortal kombat characters and not be able to use a fatality on someone after you win? Thats like taking away Ryu's fireball. I just see it being kid friendly and to me that is a turn off.

Also I was just looking around the Joystiq and Kotaku and there seems to be skeptic optimism around the comments section.

i'm just saying by comparison, i would rather play shitty mugen rather than a teen rated crossover mk. this kind of stunt would have been more exceptable 10 years ago with marvel v.s. capcom. i have played mortal kombat for 15-16 years, i just was expecting a more meaningful mk. it just seems so crazy.

Well since it's going to be MK vs DC i'll still buy it since it's a MK game. But since this is also a game with DC Characters most likely the Blood and Gore will not be in it? They might but very unlikely. They said long ago they wanted to start over and make MK a game for the next Generation? And in this case i guess you can look at this game and see that is what they are doing. They want the next Generation of MK different than the past MK games. With this game that will be different as you can get. They also want to sell the new game to the new generation as well. And how wuld they do that? They take out the blood and Gore and the game get's a T-Teen Rating like Street Fighter gets! That way a younger kid can goto the store and be able to buy it with a Teen Rating! So they sell more to a Younger Teen Fan's! And that is the next Generation of game players for XBox 360 and PS3 and Wii We are the older Generatio of MK fan's and they want this game for the Next Generation. I'm a DC comics fan... And an MK fan... Why don't I like this idea? O.o Edit: This is the sort of game you'd expect to come out alongside an actual game. Unless, this is preperation for the proper MK8.

Midway are 10 years late with this one. Like the other guy said, if this is legit, i'm 100% done aswell, i've been a loyal fan since MK2 and have defended them a few times from the diabolical decision to can the xbox version of MK Armageddon. Oh midway team, you just better know what you're doing.

Kotaku is reporting that they have been contacted by a former Midway employee who was part of early development on the game. He stated that the game was toned down significantly so that it could get a T-for-Teen rating. The game will have minimal blood and absolutely no gore. Yes, this means no fatalities.

As long as there are fatalities...I will get my chance of kicking the shit out of some lame kids fantasy characters...I hope.

I'm guessing this is more DCs idea then Midways. I imagine they paid a lot of money for this. On the one-hand, this might be the stick slapped on the rear to get MK to make a half-decent game. Because this time if they screw up, its DC fans that get the stick instead of just MK fans.

To be honest, I hope that this is the Wii version because no gore, blood, and fatalities are going to make this game feel generic despite it being an MK title. I'm surprised that Ed Boon picked DC to cross over with mainly due to the fact that their fighting titles, as well as a majority of their other games, don't sell too well. If the MK franchise did want to aim this towards younger players, they picked the wrong franchise to cross over with. I'm inclined to agree with those that seem to think this is a side project. It makes sense after all, Midway would have to be blind and deaf to be unaware of the backlash MK: Armageddon received. Actually, Capcom only has partial rights to the Marvel franchise. The big owners now are EA, Activision still has the rights to Spiderman, and I believe Sega for Ironman as of right now. In all honesty, I really hope that this is some gimmick to get us all riled up for the actual thing or I'm gonna flip. I know this might be a little off topic, but do you think there's gonna be a Konquest mode? If so, is it gonna play more like MKSM or fixed like the MK games?

What the hell is this crap? Since when do superheroes in spandex have any relevancy to Mortal Kombat? This isn't the MK that earned its reputation since the 90's. Well said! But even so from the interview with Boon the game looks VERY promising. An all new fighting mechanic with all sorts of new features. There WILL be finishers. Unfortunately it's not going to be rated M...but I'm optimistic.

I still have hope for this game. I feel Midway will not do "Fatalities" but I hope it's something along the lines of a super combo "IE:Killer Instinct" ending with a death move. I thinking that would go over well with both MK and DC fans.

Ive been on MKO for years Im a 16 year MK VET! I have defended this series from the beginning but simply cant do so anymore. You are obviously a DC fan so you are looking forward to this.

To be honest I've only been in the 'community' for a few years, but I've been playing since day one when my brother in law brought home MK1 on the Genesis, and loved each game more than the last. I even managed to sit through Special Forces, and even enjoy it to a degree. I wasn't questioning the size of your MK penis, I was just saying what's the point of signing up for a forum if all you're going to do is moan about shit you don't even really know about yet. All these people who keep posting just to say the same thing over and over and threatening to leave and never play MK again should quit whining, and just do it. Leave the 4-or-so of us who are actually optimistic to have constructive conversations. And if you are just signing up to complain, go do it at another forum.

People are entitled to their opinion. Even if it is knee-jerk, the world is ending, the sky is falling, etc. A lot of people started to build their own vision of what a completely re-imaging of the series would look like. And when Ed Boon's vision of a new start looks nothing like their vision, kaboom! We get the outcry and derision. Still it is important that people are able to voice their reaction. Even if it is completely negative. Once it gets closer to when the game is going to be released and more information is being let out, then we'll see if people have the same opinion.

Each to their own opinion, but after watching the trailer and seeing those screenshots of Sub-Zero vs. Batman, I'm warming up to the idea! I say go for it! I'm a little indifferent to the fatalities being replaced seeing how they've been in every single MK game, but if Boon says they're gonna push for an M rating then I'm ok with it. One match-up my friends and I hope to see is Sub-Zero vs. Mr. Freeze! At first I was whining and *****ing like others, but Street Fighter and Marvel have had their own versus games, and I believe MK and DC have waited long enough.

i'm just saying by comparison, i would rather play shitty mugen rather than a teen rated crossover mk. this kind of stunt would have been more exceptable 10 years ago with marvel v.s. capcom. i have played mortal kombat for 15-16 years, i just was expecting a more meaningful mk. it just seems so crazy.

Yeah, a lot of people's tones changed I've noticed from negative to very positive now that we've actually seen gameplay. I'm pumped for this game : )
