I've found that the general rule of thumb is, if you've been playing a variety of games for more than a decade, you can understand how they will feel just by looking at them extensively. Fighting game are one of the easiest to pinpoint just by watching, along with shooters. MK looks fast and seamless. A turn-off for me is the weight of characters; if you play UMK3, every character feels light, something I'm actually a huge fan of--I dislike VF due to how heavy each character feels. You can tell by looking at MK that there's a good balance there, where it's not as light as UMK3 but also not as heavy as the 3D MKs; it's almost as if the speed of the fight counteracts any weight added to the characters.
