Worst Reviews Ever. A 5.7/10 & 6.1/10?!

A review is a review..However.

For those who bash IGN, realize they are at least professional, These guys aren't at all, they are casual reviewers who don't know much, I wouldn't even care about their opinion IMO as it wont be on metacritic.

For example, they call portal 2 an FPS.. Its a first person puzzle game FFS

i was wondering that. it's good to know this rubbish isn't considered a professional review.

Yeah, theres a difference between a review and an opinion/rant. These two-bit casual sites nobody has heard of do not understand this difference. If they aren't on metacritic, they aren't worth reading imo.

I agree, however if they cant review a clearly good game as good then they shouldnt review what so ever.

It's kinda comforting seeing how the only bad reviews MK has gotten so far is from people who don't have any common sense whatsoever.

Incredible, in internet you can find clothe, food, music, porn, videogames, movies, and even the stupidiest man on the world.

(8.2+7.6+5.3+7.4+6.2)/5 = 6.94

where'd they get 5.7?

Overall scores are not based on averages. They are based on how the author feels about the overall experience of the game. Then again, I don't get why do people make such a big deal about those damn numbers. They are arbitrary in nature and never measure anything tangible.

The reviewer posted some valid arguments. Don't get all butthurt because it isn't a 10/10. People are entitled to their own opinions, even if it differs from your own. An 88 average is still a great score. What if gamespot gives the game a 7.0? Is everyone here going to freak out and exclaim how gamespot is a lousy review site? People seriously need to chill out. If you like the game, go play it and enjoy it. Don't go berserk over someone who doesn't think it is as good as you do.

Do enumerate the 'valid' arguments along with your reasons on why you consider them 'valid'.

If you say so...

"While promised a deeper fighting system, what we’ve actually been presented with is... well, NetherRealm isn’t lying. The system is deeper. Combos make up a far bigger part of the brawling than they did in past iterations, and it does feel more like a ‘proper’ fighting game than the Mortal Kombats of old.
So it is deeper. But that’s not to say it’s actually deep, per se, especially not in comparison to its contemporaries. It doesn’t help that the new, deeper combo system really isn’t all that much fun to play about with, either."

I agree, MK has never been a deep fighting game. Fun and flashy but it's draw has been the over the top gore, not the incredibly deep fighting engine. They tried to add the depth in the 3d games but the complex dial-a-combo system they used made most of the fighting styles play stiff and awkward.

"It’s wooden, slow-moving and unintuitive. It seemingly punishes for making the slightest mistake at one point, before rewarding you with one or two extra hits the next time you press an identical combination of buttons."

MK has been a very wooden game. Moves don't flow together as seamlessly as other fighting games do.

" Mortal Kombat is a decent-looking game, full of interesting, active backgrounds and detailed – if almost cartoonish – characters."

This I totally agree with. This is not a realistic looking game. While not as stylized as SSF4 was, the characters don't look like the boxers in Fight Night. I understand their choice to do this. Over the top gore on super realistic looking characters would draw alot of flak from the censorship boards.

"And the Tower Challenge, which... well, no, actually that’s just a bit of a waste and comes across as little more than a time-sink."

I haven't played the challenge tower yet but I would imagine once you beat it, there is little reason to go back to it, much like the challenge tower of SCIV.

This is not a game to be taken seriously. It is intentionally over the top and that is the biggest draw to the game. I know I will enjoy the game but it is not perfect. I can accept that, I am confused why people get so upset that not everyone thinks this game is going to be the end-all-be-all of fighting games. MK games have always been the popcorn movie of fighting games. Fun to play but lacking the depth of the more serious fighters out there.

Now, respectfully, I would like to hear your reasons why the reviewer was so wrong.

I've been questioning this game's gameplay since day 1, so I'm not gonna hate on this guy that much...I actually tend to agree with him a little.

Having said that, his review isn't entirely objective and in fact seems to maybe be a little affected by this guy's in game success:

"It seemingly punishes for making the slightest mistake"....seems like someone got their ass kicked. And btw thats the way fighting games are supposed to work...

And I don't understand why he would criticize the art style of MK as cartoonish and unrealistic when that is, and always has been, the driving art style of the series...that's like saying the Muppets movie sucked because you didn't believe the Muppets were real people.

Anyway, this review is indeed extremely flawed, but to give this guy credit, he is onto something with the gameplay and I take no pleasure in admitting that.
