I love it because that's the first game I've ever played when I was 4-5 years old. I AM a big fan of the whole game series, regardless of its reviews.

Also, when Deception came out and I played it, I was glad that for once in a god damn lifetime, for the storyline that evil won and not the good guys this time. Like come on, it gets bored with the good guy always conquers over evil. I think by the time Deadly Alliance and Deception came, it was time for evil to shine, regardless if the characters are old or new. I was happy that the story turned around and I bet when everyone gotten Decpetion and checked the intro, they were shocked, and even surprised, at the same time was interesting to see that evil was victorious.

Well, I don´t care about storylines in any game, since they´re usually crap. Mortal Kombat´s storyline is pretty interesting compared to many others though, but still... The reason for me to play Mortal Kombat is definitely the gore, it´s just so much better to finish your opponent properly than just see him/her on the ground... But I answered YES!

Actually, I'm pretty sure there were games which had some form of gore before Mortal Kombat (though not to that extent) can't think of any off the top of my head though.

MK started the gore in all the video games

First of all, it was Sub-Zero's spine rip first. And there WERE games with violence before MK. However MK popularized it.

True! Very true. I just forgot which games they were. The only unique game that is similar to MK that I like is Primal Rage. The reason I said unique is because the controls are very original to me in which to do special moves are different, and the battle was between giant extinct animals to see who rule the extinct world.
