Looking to play with a new character, but don't get much time to play - I just play maybe an hour every 3 days, but always like to pick it up every now and then.

I don't play online anymore. Had a 50/50 record on that using about 6 characters. I am mainly trying to beat EXPERT without losing a fight, I know that is easy for some of you - I have come close but not quite.

I played as Reptile and Kabal quite a lot. Tinkered with Smoke, Ermac and played a bit of Johhny and Scorp in the demo.

I am bored of Kabal now, so want to play a new character.

I want him/her to be interesting even when I am really being challenged, I found Ermac dull really as he has lethal big and easy to land combos, so I fall into the same routines with him.

Want a character with some versatility and plenty of variety. Some good satisfying combos to do, but not mind numbingly difficult to pull off. Don't mind if they are not a so called top tier character as I am no where near the level to notice that.

I have all the DLC. I guess the main requirement is variety and fun combos. Not interested in power, tier etc. Don't really like the look of Kenshi as I don't want to do all my fighting from a distance. Shang is a no no as I struggle with him. I have been thinking Johnny in more depth, but might be nice to go totally new.

I did like characters with a "stun" move (hence the kabal love) as I like to be able to do the combos I practice quite easily, but not fussed about that now as I understand the limitations that also has.

Just for fun - who should it be?

When it comes to easy combos:
Ermac
Noob Saibot(maybe minus the corner ones)
Sektor
Kitana
Cyrax
SubZero
Scorpion
Smoke
Lui Kang
Kano
Raiden
^^^^
Probably more if someone wants to chime in. These are people I've messed around with and learned their combos EXTREMELY easily. like almost barely any effort. Noob's corner combos are a little more precise but still manage-able. Some points during the wall combo you need patience or you'll throw out your normals too early.

Among those I listed
Subzero, Kitana, Scorpion, Cyrax, Smoke have stun moves. Noob saibot too... if you want to count his portal as a stun move.

You say you liked Kabal, but he is pretty up there in the technical skill department. he's hard to play at a high level. So much dash cancelling and pressure you have to keep up. Kabal takes a bit to learn how to play correctly.

But since your only playing a couple horus every 3 days or so. try some of these characters out. Their combos are relatively easy to learn IMO.

Id say jade or cyber sub zero. they have alot of different combos that deal in the same damage range and c sub has a stun

Jade requires ALOT of work and effort to get good at. Because he only has about 3 hours it might be a little harder to play her ... but I digress :3

I'd say stick to what Critical has said. There's enough characters there to choose from and mix and match. Fairly easy to learn :3

I agree jade is pretty hard to be good with but once learned she can be pretty dominant at times. i learned kabal, csub, scorp, jade, and sektor and i found jade to be EXTREMELY fun.

Jade's a one trick pony. She does well because she's rare online and rare to fight against in general. Most of my success with her is from people not knowing the matchup.

She's flawed because of a few things. If she's going to be so HIGHLY based on meter she needs to build meter like kabal. Because you most of the time need to use meter to break their offense to get a combo. And since you do this, you have none for breakers so you end up eating every combo to the max.

She's also flawed because she has garbage mix ups. She just has 1 low string, and her overhead can be blocked on reaction. Luckily it takes some real good reaction to stop the DB2(EX) overhead.

I've played her to death since May, and just recently dropped her because I was hoping so bad for her buffs that would jump her a tier up but they never came.

I figured out a really good pressure formula with Jade that should keep them blocking/scared of when to let go of block to counter, but it's been turned to garbage because her UP+3 can be ducked now :(

she's not horrible... She's just not enough to win against REALLY smart players.

have you ever tried using her regular 4 into other moves like db+2 or sweep and had success with it? iv done this and i blame alot of fail to online lag

thanks for the input all. I noticed no one mentioned Jax, and I am a little bit intrigued by him. Does he have some major flaws - I am intersted why he never gets a mention :)

CSZ looks really interesting too...fun is still the name of the game here for me.

I think Jade sounds like a possibility, maybe a little complex for me.

Jax is like Baraka in the sense, if either of them corner you, you are going to be in trouble.

Talking of Jade, she was my very first main in the game. I played her to death, but I just felt with her there was so much investment in her for little reward. I agree with Critical, that I found a lot of my success with her came from people not knowing the match up well. You really have to play harder with her than other characters. I don't actually mind that, I mean I use Baraka, Sindel and Sheeva, arguably other characters that you have to play a notch higher for good results then someone like, Derp Lao who I personally don't thnk requires you to play that well to get a good result.

That said, Sindel, Sheeva and Baraka all got really good buffs. Poor Jade however...

I'm the biggest advocater for Sindel around here, but you will have to invest a lot into her.

You will probably find at first, that her damage output is not great. The truth is, it's very good now, but you have to know what to do, and her more damaging combos are quite long strings that require a reset, tricky juggles or both. A lot of her game is around her scream and getting in her B3, F2 for maximum damage and combo set ups.

night wolf does also look like a lot of fun. I did play with him for a bit and did some decent combos. Kano looks like a lot or repetition and reliance on ball??

Shang I simply can't play....never have been able to get all the different distancesd projectiles into muscle mem.

At the moment I think it is between:

Johnny
Jax
CSZ
Sindel
Cyrax
Nightwolf

Anyone got any thoughts on Kitana? She looks like she could be kind of fun too.
