Two topics to discuss while we wait: bosses and the will of the internet

Yeah, but I don't want the entire roster and plot leaked. That's what I meant. And that could happen a few weeks before release.

I'm going M.I.A simply because of this.

I was around lurking the forums during the last month before MK9's release. Gotta say, that was the first time an entire game was spoiled for me.

I'm not touching TRMK from March 14 to after I complete Story Mode.

I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility that feedback influenced something in terms of marketing schedule, but at a high level it's far too unlikely to imagine that they are going to deviate from their strategy as a dev team because a couple of message board nerds (me included) are in arms about whatever we're in arms about.

It's something to remember that none of us actually know what the hell we're talking about with MKX. We are only going by what we see.

I really don't see them having two different ladder bosses. You'll just get the one and if you happen to play arcade first, it'll be spoiled.

Chances are it'll be spoiled before the game even comes out.

I agree that having two different ladder bosses would be stupid. Whoever is the final boss in the story mode will be our final ladder boss. That's how it works. Most people go straight to story mode then finish arcade mode after they are done with story mode. Besides I doubt Shinnok will ever be a boss character again. He will likely be a story mode boss and be on the main roster similar to how Shang Tsung was. Ed Boon even admits that he wishes Shinnok was never a boss in MK4 because MK is always been known to have big and scary looking boss characters.

He also said it's gonna be a surprise retuning character.

My problem is with this is how does Boon define the word "surprise," because if it's Liu Kang, it certainly won't be. I mean look at how many people already think the end boss is going to be a tormented fire god-like Liu Kang.

I'm sitting here on my couch eating a chicken salad with my drawing board on my lap listening to Anthony and Opie and will state this until proven wrong that it's Shang Tsung. Mainly because everyone, or at least a good majority, thinks he's dead. He'd be a surprise to all of us to say the least because of the fate that he suffered during the middle of the 2011 story.

With that said, I can't answer the question if arcade mode's boss fight and the story mode's last fight will be the same because I have no clue what the story is going to be like. For all we know it could literally be Raiden at the end of the story with us killing him because of something he did through X's story that wasn't like amongst the good guys. Or it could be Quan Chi finally getting what he's deserved in over the last few years.

It's really all up in the air for me when trying to figure out who these end bosses could be.

Im quite certain Ed knows whats a surprise to us. He enjoys this game alot, can't you tell?
Its verly likely that it will be something almost nobody is expecting. Boon is pro at that.

I hope the arcade and story bosses will be the same. I play story mode first anyway.
If you want to ge spoiled, play ladder, Personal Choice.

Sry for all the Quan Chi fans, but i really wan't to see his butt kicked hard this time. GRRR!

I seriously hope it isn't Liu Kang. For two reasons:

1. I despise Liu Kang
2. I just want to see you all end up being wrong for the lawls

First of all, I'm sure NRS won't give us a false ladder boss just so we won't see who it is. Hasn't happened the past 9 games, doubt it'll happen all of a sudden this time. I believe the arcade ladder will still be randoms, and the top of the ladder will be the big baddie.
Though, honestly, I am hoping with so much power that we get the "Novice - Expert" ladder choices again..THAT was amazing and iconic.

I can't really tell you an answer on the second one. Sounds pretty smart to be using characters like Kung Lao and Kitana for marketing, since they have always been favorites. So possibly!

Do people really play the arcade mode before story mode? Some of the arcade endings do spoil things. Most arcade endings are what if endings while the story mode is the real canon story since MKD.

I played Arcade mode before Story in MKA, MKD, and MK'11. I don't care for spoilers.
I want to get a taste of playing around 10 matches and getting to play my most-anticipated character first before story.
Though damn if I do, damn if I don't.

Shang Tsung returning as the main boss won't work as the surprise since he has been a main boss twice in the past. With Liu Kang, most casuals will be surprise to see Liu Kang become the big bad in MKX. Not to mention it can make his character cool again since he always been the typical hero of the day since day one. He may be a likeable guy but in the end, he's not too special in my opinion. With MK9, it was nice to have Raiden play the main hero of the game again since MKDA (canon wise). Besides if Liu Kang dies then MK can move on without him. MKDA still felt fine without him.

I think it has to be Liu Kang since NRS has been so quite on him and he is nowhere to be seen or mention in the recent comic book series. If the main boss is Liu Kang then I hope he is not playable. Having the main boss be playable ruins the feel of a boss character to me. That's why I didn't like having Superman be the main boss in Injustice instead having someone like Darkseid or Anti Monitor.

I hope Test your Luck is back, so i can play like 10 matches to get used to new mechanics and don't spoil anything.

yes I do think that NRS tweek the way they release info based on fan feedback.
october wasn't that bad because even though Quan chi was revealed early on in the month that trailer was so great that it satisfied me the whole month.
that being said I believe something happened in novembe-december because that lack of info was very unusual.
either they decided to take a break with the holidays, Ed himself had something personal to take care of or it was a reverse psychology strategy they used on us because those 2 -3 months of beign in a drought have left us thirsty as h3ll lol for new info

Liu Kang would come as no surprise for two reasons.

1) His MK9 ending
2) Many of us were speculating as such when Boon made the announcement (in which case, it's our own damn fault for ruining the "surprise").

If I recall, Liu Kang was supposed to be a "super secret unlockable character" in Deception, but IGN ruined the surprise by inadvertently leaking him in a video for another character (I think it was Hotaru).

Why are you guys so fascinated with evil Liu Kang? I mean, yeah... It's a step up from the dull as f*** normal Liu Kang. But is that what we want? Really? A butt-hurt Liu Kang as the big bad?

I don't know who the bad guy is going to be but I hope that he won't explode after being beaten. Man, why does almost every MK boss explode? I think it's really lame. It would be cool to have some quick time events like in GoW where you can finish the beaten boss. In case of failure the boss gets more energy and you have to try again. Each character could have his unique boss finishers.

It's not exactly the fact that we WANT liu kang, it's just seeming like that's what's gonna happen overall.
Obviously it's not gonna be Kotal, and it's something that we aren't expecting, and all these dead people returning but no Liu Kang reveal,
Mostly just pointing towards some bigger purpose for him.
And every MK has had an ending that, for the most part, DEPICTS the next games ending.
MKDA - Blaze hinted at Onaga. < MKD - Onaga
MKD/MKU - Kitana ending hinted at Armageddon < MKA - Armageddon
It's only normal to assume that Liu Kang is the ending that halfway hypes us up for MKX.
Though I'm just saying my point, I don't know why everyone else hopes for him.

Did any of you even stop to think that maybe Liu Kang isn't going to be in this game? Also, Kang wasn't revealed for MK9 until much later on (even though we knew he was in).

I don't think he will be the final boss. When Boon said a it'll be a surprise, everyone went right to Kang. It's too easy. And if he is the boss, that is incredibly weak. Especially when they want to move the series into a new era.
