Tryning to guess who will be the final boss...

I never saw him as a cosplayer. His desire of wearing Shao Kahn's helmet is a pervertion of power.

He even says on MK:D that the helmet will be his.

Reiko doesn't want to be a ruler, or a leader. He wants to be a supreme ruler.

His end in the comics would be VERY unfortunate, since he shares the roots of Shao Kahn, Onaga, etc. just less powerful than both.

Well, guess that's why he wants to become a god.

i don't understand how so many people believe Lui Kang is going to be the Boss. It trakes more than a "bad guy" (in the case an anticipated bad buy) to be the boss. If Lui Kang is the boss then what is his motives? Raiden kills him, he has a -fit and wants to merge Earthrealm with Outworld to get back at Raiden? doesn't make any sense.
Lets think of every boss for a moment, and find what they all have in common- they all have plans to take over other realms, merging them into one and gaining 'the one being' power over all that is, absolute power. Shao Kahn, Shinnok, Shang Tsung & Quan Chi, Onaga and then theres blaze whom stood in front of all wishing to obtain such power. Why would Lui Kang be amungst the likes of these ??? his only concern is the preservation of Earthrealm, that's it. Despite his woes with Raiden.

Reiko - I strongly believe it's Reiko, the only 'returning surprise character' that makes most sense.
Lui Kang - i think will be the unlocked character after his 'surprise' appearance in the story line
Shinnok - will be a playable character
and the Boss will not be a playable character (on the standard select screen) unless unlocked through codes (old skool)

I think Liu Kang at this point is our big bad. There's still the rumor from 4chan that Raiden spits into two Raidens and Dark Raiden becomes our big bad. With characters like Cassie, Takeda and Kung Jin being the next gen fighters then I can see Liu Kang being killed off for a long time since the series can move on without him.

Am I the only one who feels like Cassie is going to be pretty much replacing Kang as the main protagonist for a while? I've had that feeling for a bit. This game looks like it's going to orient around Cassie with the assistance of Raiden for the most part. She also has that feeling.
I never imagined a female total protag in an MK game before. I think it's really interesting.

Yeah, it seems as though Cassie will be stepping up as a main character from now on, probably so it's easier to let go of Sonya and Johnny when the time comes to say good bye.

Just looked at the achievement list photo again and it's still very speculative but what if Reiko died and Quan Chi / Havik tries to put his soul into the body of flesh and blood that is being held in the library stage? We know Reiko always wanted to takeover from Shao Kahn and be like him. Maybe that is the way for Reiko to become the blood god? Quan Chi can control the dead so it's a bit odd for him to create a whole new body, but NRS knowing, they could find a way to make it work.

Why Quan Chi would help him, I reckon because he wants to defeat Shinnok so he himself can rule but needs a much stronger force than himself. He doesn't want to become blood god himself since he's a control freak. Therefore, he creates the body.
Why Havik would help him, well it's fairly obvious from the comics that he wants to create chaos..

It could also just be Reiko by himself or working with Quan Chi, but since Reiko probably wants to become the blood god himself according to the comics, that is unlikely. Havik tells him he can become one and Reiko will subsequently not need Havik. The fact that he will not need Havik could mean an easy death for him after Reiko finds out how he can do it. It is said Havik reveals his plans to Cassie so anything can happen.

The third and maybe most likely thing to happen is that Quan Chi catches wind of all this and wants to release Shinnok. Since Shinnok is technically a spirit inside the amulet, he would need a body to 'live' and for his spirit to enter and become the blood god? I just cannot imagine that Havik and Reiko are not tied to all this, but with this last explanation, it would be easy that Quan Chi finds out from Cassie after either / both have died or he confronts Havik / Reiko himself after which he kills either or both.

Looks like the whole Liu Kang theory got debunked, unless he appears in a different form as a boss like I said earlier, similar to Tekken 3's True Ogre.

So no Liu Kang or Shinnok...

"A Surprising returning character". That leave us with... Reiko or Fujin. I Don't really consider any other names right now, i think it's one of them. unless they go crazy and put Shang Tsung, but since he was in MK9. i don't think the term Surprising returning would be appropriate in this case.

Fujin being a bad guy in MKX? Well... i wouldn't say no. The story of MKX is surprising me since the beginning. Unexpected. But Reiko would be awesome too.

If I can post this here?

I'm going with Havik or Fujin; Reiko is of course a possibility, but I doubt it. He'd be a very 'safe' boss, anyway.

Read my post for some reasons behind why Liu Kang and Shinnok are unlikely -- especially Shinnok.

I have read your post, I've even replied to it. :) I see no compelling evidence for Shinnok not being the final boss. The only thing that points away from him is the statement that it would be a "surprise" returning character. But then again, we were also told that the story trailer makes the final boss very obvious, and the story trailer only points to Mileena and Shinnok.

I'm not saying I think he is the boss - I'm honestly not sure anymore - but I can't see anyone more likely than him.

IF Shinnok is the Final Boss, I hope there will be something special happening to him to differentiate him from the playable version. For example, a whole new Variation that ONLY the boss uses.

Did Boon not say that the boss in MKX had not been a boss before? I've heard that, but I don't have the Tweet to hand (if it was a Tweet); but if he did say that - and if it's true - then Shinnok is not the boss.

This is very logical.
You can follow that pattern further:

- Boon has said (?) it's not a previous boss;
- Boon has said it's a 'surprise returning character' -- Shinnok would not be a surprise for a number of reasons;
- Boon has said he likes boss characters to be playable where possible;
- Boon has said he regrets making Shinnok the boss in MK4 because he was underwhelming to fight against.

If you follow that train of thought, Shinnok is definitely not the boss. He was revealed at the end of MK9, he was revealed again in the original MKX story mode trailer, and he's been revealed and play-tested on stream by the devs. I could well be wrong, but from that I'd take that Shinnok is neither the end boss, nor an unlockable character.

Ditto for Liu Kang, incidentally.

If they kill off Havik I will be so disappointed. :D

They will not deal with that part of the story, Havik is alive at least until June, so that's a reason to has me leaning towards thinking he's not the boss at all (the game itself would then spoilt the comics) or heavily favoured (why reveal him the way they did, only to not deal with the story for 2 straight comics (6 online chapters I think).
