The OFFICIAL Other Ocean / NRS MKAK issues thread (video encouraged!)

Here's what i can think of right now...

MK1

--Monk clapping noise in the Courtyard stage is not the same as the arcade version. Sounds newly recorded, and out of place
--Announcer voice is often cut off....instead of "Scorpion Wins", you'll hear "Scorpion Wi" or something like that
--Uppercut sound is very weak

MK2

--Subzero's ice ball sound is choppy
--Odd out of place sound is heard when you land from a jump
--Music that plays during the end game credits is glitchy and resets
--Random select doesnt work on character selection screen

UMK3

--VS Codes in 2 player matches dont seem to work at all..???
--Smokes spear has a visual glitch where it seems to fly across the screen at times
--Unable to link combos well, something seems "off"...like animation timing or something, cant explain
--Crashed hard when i was in the main menu for UMK3 changing settings. Had to power off my PS3

All 3 Games

--AI often attacks before the word "Fight" is said or off screen
--When you unpause after viewing the move list, you often cant move for 2-3 seconds
--Online play is horribly laggy
--In the menu where you are selecting the game you want to play when you press the control pad from side to side to change games, its often unresponsive and takes several presses to get it to change games
--AI difficulty setting doesnt seem to do anything. AI is the same no matter what difficulty you choose

Awesome here are my notices for UMK3

--when the announcer says "Choose your Destiny" moving your controller or curser to the right right at the same time the announcer is talking the announcer gets cut off by saying "Choose"

--Scorpions voice gets cut off when he shots his spear at his apponet while moving in toward your apponet to perform a combo

--Unable to enter codes on Vs. Screen for online and offline.

Only issues for me are the clapping of the monks in MK1 background and the hit and kick sounds are awful. The verison of MK1 that came with the Mortal Kombat Deception Kollectors Edition was perfect!

Guys I forgot to mention this as well for all 3 games:

Unable to record you rank, wins etc...similar to the issuse that was first found when MK9 was released on PS3 and Xbox 360

same happened too me, no umk3 achievement

just completed umk3 again and got achievement, i have completed all three games now, but have not got the achievement for doing all 3 games

just completed mk1 again and got the chosen one achievement. i completed mk1 twice, mk2 once, and umk3 twice to finally get all the completed game achievments

Use the edit button, please, thanks!

I havent had any issues at all with trophies (PS3 version). From what ive been seeing, these issues with missing achievements seem to be happening to 360 owners mostly? Are PS3 owners having this problem too or are we looking at a 360 only glitch?

Has anyone else noticed blacks dropping out in certain positions on MK1?

For example, if you are Sub-Zero or Liu Kang and you crouch, your pants turn from black to kind of a gray. I don't remember this from the coin-op, but maybe it was there?

I also want to second the muted uppercut sound in MK1. A lot of other things we can kind of deal with, but that REALLY takes a lot of the impact away.

There also seems to be a strange noise during Test Your Might that I don't recall from the coin-op.

just played an online game, it was sub vs sub and when the player was about to finish me, i uppercutted him, strange stuff.

There is a sound issue in MK 2. When the announcer says "Round..." there is a delay between the words "Round" and "One" (Two, etc.), so by the time he finishes with the round number, "Fight!" plays right over it. Surprised no one has pointed that out yet.

Anyone have Other Ocean's or NRS's contact info? I was hoping to get a large (say a few thousand) people to bombard them with hatemail (like, actual paper letters) to complain about this. This is seriously the worst Arcade game I've ever bought, and I want my money back.

This page has their contact email address. I sent them a polite, detailed list of issues yesterday and haven't heard squat.

Hatemail will accomplish absolutely nothing, so instead lets all just act civilized and send out a list describing the games problems, so that they might investigate further and try getting a patch together.

Trust me, I work at a store, and if the costumers can't behave decently and just start screaming whatever they feel like for no reason then the last thing they'll get from me is symphathy. Politeness people! It goes a long way 8)

Hatemail won't work, and Other Ocean are the developers but not the publishers. The publishers have to be the ones who green light a patch because it's a costly endeavor. The game needs some more work, either by Other Ocean or someone else. Hopefully WB agrees after seeing these issues and green lights a patch to fix a majority of the issues. It won't be cheap, but hopefully WB cares enough about Mortal Kombat to reach into their pockets and make this game right.

I'm going to be capturing screens and video of the various issues over the weekend. As the videos will help point out the issues so that incase they do come around to fixing the game they have nice solid proof in front of them. So the better the lists we have the better. I'd suggest the OP in this thread or the other one try to compile and keep the first post updated.

I wasn't suggesting to bombard them with obnoxious hatemail. I actually thought of writing a short note briefly detailing the major problems that everyone could print out or copy and send in with their own signature.

You're still probably right, tho. I guess all we can do it hope they fix it. :(

Why won't it be cheap?

It couldn't take a team of 4 or 5 skilled programmers more than a week or so to fix all these problems.

Unfortunately that's not all there is to it, there is all this bureaucracy to get the patch approved, both Microsoft and Sony have different policies regarding what gets into their online system, and even if the patch was already made, they would need to pay extra fees to get it online, as well as a waiting time for it to be approved (or not) by both companies.

There are other factors, but the ones I've just explained should show you why it isn't as easy as it should be to patch a game, and the reason why many games just get put out the door and never get any sort of patches at all. Lets just hope that doesn't happen in this case...

Thanks Pat! I'll do my best to compile some info. Looking forward to the video captures you get of some of these issues. Tonight, I'm going to do my best to get some video as well, and compile as much info as possible. Going to try my best to help us get a patch, all we can do is work on this on our end, and then hope it goes from there. There's a lot of factors involved but if we play our part as a community, I believe we can get much done, which is why I created this topic! Let's keep the complaining down to a minimum and keep this as fact based as possible to make everyones life as easy as can be in this process.

Is this the place to ask for an arcade display mode B? With even scanlines, that is. Yeah, it kinda bothers me a lot XD

Despite all that has been listed, there are 2 things that I have noticed that need a certain fix. And I hope I'm not alone here...

-- First, I don't know if the same can be said for MK1 and MKII, but the contrast and brightness levels in UMK3 need to be turned down. Everything just looks so bright and washed out (especially the dark/blacker colors are a faded white). After noticing this, I played the early XB360 release of UMK3 and you can definitely tell a difference.

I have an idea-- If someone with a PS3 (with both MKII and MKAK) could present a side-by-side photo (or video) comparison regarding this issue, then that would be great. Same for someone with an XB360 with both UMK3 and MKAK. I would do it myself, but I don't have a camera that would suit well.

--Finally, despite the sound glitches in each game (which I hope to be fixed), MKII and UMK3 need to be LOUDER. I went to the options menu and turned everything (Music & SFX) up, and didn't really notice a substantial difference. Even went as far to turn SFX down and Music up (and vice versa), still.. not as loud as it could be.

When I look back on all the MKs and playing them at the arcades, I remember the soul-piercing audio that captured the overall daunting atmosphere. That isn't translated very well here. I really hope this is taken into account and fixed.

So that's all. Great thread, OP. I hope all of these problems are presented in an intelligible fashion and actually see the light of day. Like many of us here, I am disappointed with MKAK. But if we, as a forum, can use our brains and be mature about the issues at hand, then I hope everyone and myself to be graced with the fixes we all desire.
