The Official Help Love Cowboy Decide On A Console Thread

^^^ That depends on the game in question. Some games, especially later titles, were made with HDTV in mind. When I bought Skyrim, the HUD and text were cut off at the sides. The text that I could see was unreadable. I also had problems reading text with Skullgirls and BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend. The television I used at the time was pretty big too, but the text was still too blurry on the screen. I tried making adjustments to the television, but to no avail. The television I use now is a significantly smaller, but the higher resolution made a huge difference.

@LC
I got my ps3 for the bluray player, free online, some exclusive games like : GOW, MGS4, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 1,2,& 3, Twisted Metal.

I got the the 360 for my friends and exclusive games like: halo, the witcher 2, DOA4, fable 2, and gears of war.

Fighting games is not an issue with the Madcats pro controller, you can swap out your d pad for a ps3 version.

I'd go with the device that most of your freinds favor - This is the Multiplayer generation.

I really get infuriated when people bring up the Red Rings, since technically, the Yellow Light of Piss on Ps3 is more of a problem.

Microsoft extended all warantees on all older 360s by 4 years. I got the Red Rings, and I got it fixed for free, and my Xbox is old.

My friend has a ps3. It got the Yellow Light, and the warantee already expired. So no more ps3 for him.

Like Riko said, ps3 for fighters, Xbox for shooters. I thoroughly enjoy Gears of War, so I'd never give up my 360 for a ps3, but I do want a ps3 for Uncharted and Heavy Rain.

Ps3 is good, but Xbox is better, in my opinion. But I do think a ps3 would be more suitable for LC.

And no one mention paying for online. If you can spend hundreds of dollars on video games, accessories, and DLC, I don't see why $60 is such a problem.

No offense but personal stories hardly equate to factual information.

there are no statistics I could find on more rings of death or yellow dots/customer service.

My brother sent his in for free as well.

adn they gave him another original Xbox360, that lasted long enough past the original warranty. and it crashed AGAIN. cuz they gave him the exact same faulty one that was recalled to sort of sneak past the warranty.

I had PS3, since day one. No yellow dot, and I leave my shit on all night sometimes.

see how my personal experience is completely different than yours?

Personal experience =/= cold Facts.

But you're right.

BOTH companies for the most part fixed that problem.

I'd say that's something LC doesn't have to worry about.

Well not everyone buys accessories and DLC, plus the difference between buying those and paying for online anyway is that you only have to buy accessories/DLC once to use them and be done with it, with online you have to pay to play online every single year. It doesn't seem like a lot but it adds up. Add in the fact that other consoles offer online play for free while you're stuck paying to use something that arguably should already be offered by the console with no additional cost in the first place, and that's why it's a problem

Shira should say,

if you have a job. Free internet shouldn't be an deterrent.

but plenty of people in their teens and earlier. don't have jobs. And would rather spend that 60 bucks on another game. Than to unlock online, on top of the fact you're already paying your cable company for online.

When I didn't have a job, I wasn't *****ing about paying for online.

Metal, look at how much people spend on games. For instance, look how many games BBBLP buys. You can't just take SIXTY DOLLARS out the tens or hundreds of dollars you spend each year, and buy a year of Live.

I know it's a different story with you, since you're how you say, financially inept, but those who buy 20-30 games a year need to shut the hell up and stop complaining. It really pisses me off.

Sixty dollars. That's it. Sixty dollars for an ENTIRE year. Some even come with 13 months on them.

And Critical, that's who's fault decided to send your brother that Xbox. My Xbox is first gen, and it only got the Red Rings once, and WAY after production. I got it fixed for free, and it has been great since.

I'm comparing company warrantees, not hardware. My other friend got 2 years warrantee on his Ps3, but only because he bought it at a specific store. That's stupid.

Xbox gave 2 year warrantee + 4 years. Because they knew your Xbox might crash, so they fix it for free, basically as an apology.

Cowboy, take into account whether or not you buy used games. A lot of companies now are implementing online passes. So if you do and you have a 360, you'll be paying your internet provider, Microsoft and the developers separately to play your game online.

Also PS3 lets you save your videos and music straight to the hard drive. Which is god tier for when you want to play SSX with your custom track and you don't feel like waiting for the ungodly usb load times of 360

that's microsofts fault?

My brother SENT it in. To get it FIXED.

Microsoft said they "couldn't fix it" and sent him a NEW one.

and they re-sent him the same line of Xbox's that red-ring'd.

it lasted long enough to bypass his "ORIGINAL" warranty, so he had to actually BUY a second xbox360/ and it technically being his 3rd system.

my point is Microsoft INTENTIONALLY ripped him off. WHY ON EARTH. WOULD YOU RE-SEND THE SAME FAULTY PRODUCT as a "FIXED" version.

I understand your hate for people saying your system sucks. But who CARES?

This has nothing to do with LC.

He doesn't have to worry about a system melting, this late in the game.

------

dude when I was in highschool. and if I had to pay for online on my console. I probably wouldn't have done it. I didn't get allowance, I had to do chores for free.

and the only time I got stuff was during a holiday, so I had to spend my money wisely.

you can bet your ass I wouldn't spend a birthday present to "unlock" online.

Not everyone in their teens has hundreds to spend.

I just said that was their fault -.-

Your brother just had bad luck. My Turtle Beach x11s broke, but they were under warrantee, and they ended up sending me x12s.

Microsoft fixed my Xbox, and they gave it a Jasper motherboard, to reduce power consumption, so it wouldn't happen again.

------

I only got stuff during the holidays, and a few bucks here and there from my dad. I never had hundreds of dollars to spend, yet I still was able to afford online and games.

It's only 60, and you have another whole year to accumulate another 60, for the next year. I never saw it as stupid or bothersome.

How is that not bothersome? Thats a whole damn game. Its like if you had to choose between Resident Evil 6 & GTAV. You really want to play online, so you can only get one. PS3 guy gets all 3 and makes out like a bandit.

Not trying to make it a console war. Its just funny how quick you are to dive infront of the 360. Its like you got stocks in the company

It's never happened to me before, ever.

I've never ran out of live, because if you're not an idiot, you can keep it consistent.

If you have 80 bucks, you can buy a game, and set 20 aside to save for your next live card. If you can't budget your shit, it's not my problem.

Only excuse is if you purely don't have the money. If you're poor, I understand. But like I have a friend, that banks 150-200 a week from his job, and the dude *****es about paying for live, and has never bought it.

That situation would work so well if you didn't need it for other circumstances.

Your friend may have other shit to pay like car insurance or other things not important as paying for online content.

Too bad he has nothing to pay for.

I'm targeting all the whiners that have plenty of money to spare, but they cry about paying for live.

I have a friend that lives in the projects. His father has no job. He has no job. His house is crawling with bugs. He has no AC, or any luxuries. He's legit poor, but an awesome friend.

He plays Battlefield 3 all the time, and he never *****ed about paying for online once. He said "Why is it such a problem? It's a whole year, so I can scrounge up the money by then, just saving little by little."

If you can't get 60 bucks in a year, you're either living on the street, or on the bare minimum.

It still depends on finances.

Yes the higher the money you make the more and more insignificant that 60 bucks may look. and the less and less someone SHOULD complain.

but everything adds up.

60 bucks alone? if someone stole it? who cares? I won't die or become homeless because of it. But that's unfair because I make a decent amount of money. I WOULDN'T personally care about paying a little more for online.

but from the perspective of when I was only 15 years old. And I got no allowance.

I would be deterred by 60 dollar online subscription if that had to come out of my B-day present.

just saying.

Shira, what you aren't getting is that it isn't just about the cost itself, it's the simple fact that Microsoft forces you to pay to pay online. It not only adds unnecessary cost, it takes away options.

Everyday people don't like spending more than what they feel they have to, especially when it can be used on other things. It's not about the amount of money you're making, it's what you're spending it on

it'd be nice if they took a Sony approach.

had free online but little to no benefits.

but with sony you can choose to upgrade to PLUS if you want.

be cool if Microsoft had a option like that.

Let's be serious here,
how many times has vital had problems getting online paid for? lol i've seen many posts in the past.

You're paying for a service, that is daily maintained, and taken care of.

It's not like if someone sold you a car, and charged you for putting an air freshener in it. A horrible analogy, I know.

I'm not bothered by the fact that you have to pay online, and I never was.

Not even in the Eighth grade. I bought the wireless adapter, headset, and XBL for the Xbox. I saved my money, then I bought the year, and I haven't run out of XBL since then.

You know why people cry so much? Because they buy the 3 month, then another, then another, then another, spending 100 dollars instead of 60.

Impatience? Your fault.

Let's be serious here,

iVital doesn't spend intelligently sometimes. I've told him a few times:

"Don't buy _____, buy some live so you can have live, and play _____, _____, and _____ with me."

But then he buys whatever he wanted to buy, ignoring me, then doesn't end up liking it, selling it to Gamestop. Then he's out of live, and a game.

Sorry to throw you under the bus, Vital, but it has happened, many times. But that's just his fault. XBL should be a priority, and if you do get it, it makes games more fun, giving you more time until you want your next game that you're saving for.

LC,
Get the same console your friends have, so you can play games together.
Whether you want to pay the $60 extra for online is up to you.
I don't own a 360, but my friends that do have said that paid online makes up for it with downloadable games.

If you're getting it for MK9, then go with a PS3.
If you get a 360 for MK9, then try to get a 360 controller that has a modifiable D-pad (they have those), or get a 360 to PS3 converter cable and use a PS3 controller for it.
D,F and D,B moves in MK9 can be down-right annoying, IMO, on a normal 360 controller.

That being said, I have a PS3 and I enjoy the hell out of it.
Free online is a plus for me because I don't really care about downloadable games, and the very few times I'm in the PSN store, it's to get a demo or some DLC, like when MK9 DLC came out.

It all depends on what you want to get out of it, and what your budget is. ;)
