TE or not. Opinons please.

It depends Cvan27, I can use either stick of controller. [mainly play 360 so I have a disadvantage there with D-pad ] however with dedication both are pretty amazing. Although the stick can cut down on inputs by a few miliseconds, it generally won't effect matches online too much. So unless you are playing in a tourney either way is fine. If you are playing tourney, stick. All the way.
 
Tbh I was having this same concern. I've played with arcade sticks on MK before (My mall has it in it's arcade :P, and it still has an arcade :P) but I've never done a game like this before and I've never used a handheld one. I didn't want to spend an extra 100 dollars just to be hindered by it and end up getting buyers remorse. :C

The only thing I'm worried about with it though at this point is the use of pushing multiple buttons for things like X-rays. I know in games like in MVC2 it's pretty unforgiving. I hope it doesn't require pushes at the EXACT moment.

I've never thought about cancelling O.o especially when they are so rare now. But I just hope I don't feel sad about my stick.

BUT! Even if I totally suck balls with the stick. I'll stick think it's worth it if I can use it with Scott Pilgrim and Castle Crashers :D
 
As there's now a generation of gamers who have grown up entirely on pad, the stick may not be so necessary anymore.

Keep in mind that the strong stick advocates are typically those who grew up playing fighters in arcades, and so it naturally feels better to them because that's what they're used to. If you played on pad your whole life, you're much likelier to have a pad "feel better" over a stick.

That said, there's probably still some moves that are flat-out easier to do on a stick, but I think it's starting to become more of a personal preference thing at this point.
 
I grew up using the d-pad, but will always prefer the stick because it totally segregates what each hand is tasked to do: left is purely movement input and the right deals with buttons. I also find the spacing and size of buttons on the stick layout to be a bit friendlier. With a pad you're consistently shifting your right thumb around to depress buttons, with a stick that isn't the case at all. I think it's just a matter of training and muscle memory, but the retro image of sticks and the extra tactility are certainly endearing.

Nobody should be worried about a poor purchase on the TE though; there will certainly be people willing to take it off your hands if you want to recoup the cost.

last time I checked, a d-pad makes you to use your left thumb for movement and your right hand for button inputs...seems pretty segregated to me...

at the end of the day there's nothing a fight-stick can do that a d-pad can't...if you're already good with a d-pad and don't mind the button layout, I don't see any reason to convert...
 
in my opinion, the te stick is a win/win. I know i am only going to use the stick for mk9, no way im going to use a controller if i have a legit arcade setup, but for those of you who are unsure, and dont really think you are going to like it, when you get it just keep it in good condition. I guarantee that if you wait a little while, you can probably sell it for $200+ on ebay.
 
It's funny because there are somethings you just can't debate here.

Your hand moves faster than your thumb.

With the controller you're working your left thumb, and right hand. That's segregating.

If you've played fighting games for hours on end on a pad, you know if can cause wear and tear on your thumb.

Never pre-ordered the TE edition(Sold Out in Houston). For some reason, arcade sticks are not my style and I prefer the usual PS3 controller anyday.
 
I'm personally getting the TE edition becasue it totally goes back to the old school ways of playing arcade games when I was growing up, but that's just my own opinion. The TE may not be for everyone, but take as part of a good collection and besides, you can't go wrong buying one.
 
Fighting games were designed with the stick in mind.

If you're play on a pad, you're not really playing the game the way it should be played.
 
Standard edition is the only real option for me. $100 for an art book and a book end? No thanks. $150 for a controller I'll only use in 1 game? Also, no thanks.

One game? Can't you also use it on MKII (on the PS3) And who is to say there won't be more MK games on these consoles we currently have.

I was thinking about the two shoulder buttons on the PS3 controller that get used over there. Or is it just the one?
