Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

Ohh, well that does suck lol.

I have to admit, a lot of people are pumped this year about SC4, and soon MK vs. DC and SF 4 but you're one of those exceptions lol. That's cool though, if it weren't for you I never would have heard of this game honestly. It does look interesting. Not sure if I'll get a PS3 down the line(price still grinds me up and the games aren't really to my liking) but I admit lol I do want one at some point for MK2 online lol.

I'll be spending lots of time on MK vs. DC, UMK3 and SF 4 once I get my 360 soon. I plan on getting one before years end btw. ; )

Why the name change? Are there more characters for the US release or what? "Ultimate All Stars" seems unnecessary.

Yea the roster will be slightly different, as well as its a Revision as well, aka some issues and problems will be fixed. Also some mini games and whatnot wont be included in the US version.

NInja Edit: Alright, i was wrong about the mini games, but here is some info from www.fightersgeneration.com :

Capcom has confirmed that the US version of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will have an online mode via the Wii's WiFi. The online features will include Friend battles, Rival battles, Free battles, and Ranked battles. Capcom has also announced that one character would be cut from the roster due to licensing issues, however, in their place, five new characters will be added! It's not mentioned who the character is that was cut (but Hakushon Daimao is speculated to be the one who was axed). The new version will also feature new mini games as well as an "enhanced" story mode!

How can there be "licensing issues" this late in development? I mean it's already out in Japan! Does somebody own the rights to a Tatsunoko character's distribution here in the good ole' US of A? Damn our copyright laws.

Each of the Tatsunoko characters are owned by different companies in the west, which is why it wasn't initially released over here.
Well, if it's a T character who's getting axed I don't give a f*ck. I'm not an anime fan at all. And I'm guessing it will be a new T character to replace him, and then two more on each side. Hoping for Barry Burton, but probably not.

Capcom officially announced Tatsunoko vs. Capcom today for the Wii. In the press release they reveal the game will have 26 characters, online play with four modes, Friend, Rival, Free and Ranked Battles.

Here's the breakdown.

SAN MATEO, CA — June 2, 2009 — Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is coming to North America for the Wii home video game system. Capcom’s popular and critically acclaimed ‘VS’ fighting series is getting an all new next-generation introduction. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom pits Capcom’s iconic characters against Tatsunoko Productions anime superheroes. This clash of heroes face off in two-on-two battles for the ultimate 2D tag-team battle.

Originally released in Japanese arcades in the Fall of 2008, the original Tatsunoko vs. Capcom moved to the Wii console on December 11, 2008. This extraordinary fighter will blend these two rich universes by taking Capcom characters like Ryu from Street Fighter, Morrigan from Darkstalkers and the giant PTX-40A from Lost Planet and putting them against Tatsunoko fan-favorite characters from Gatchaman, Hurricane Polymar, Casshern and more. It’s a battle royale that delivers match-ups that only exist in fans wildest dreams!

Unlike the more well-known six-button layout that the Street Fighter franchise pioneered, the VS line features a simplified four button system: “Weak”, “Medium”, “Strong” and “Assist” for the tag-team option of. The “Assist” feature adds another compelling element found Capcom’s other “VS” series: allowing players to switch their character on the fly or call for help from their tag-team partner, allowing for spectacular super moves (“Hyper Variable Combination”). Successful execution of the Assist feature can turn the tide of battle on a dime. Historically the VS series excels in integrating the tag-team options by including customized moves like Variable Assist, Snapback, and the previously mentioned Hyper Variable combination that lets both characters on one team perform their Hyper attack.

TvC enhances the above gameplay with new mechanics, including the Variable Aerial Rave that allows characters to be switched in the middle of an Aerial rave. More moves include the offensive Assault and defensive maneuver Mega Crash. Another new gameplay mechanic, titled Baroque, illuminates the character in a rainbow of colors, cancels the current attack and extends combos and damage.

Featuring a robust line-up of characters, the console version added four mini-games and optional control schemes

This “newer” version of TvC, currently dubbed Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, removes one character due to licensing issues, and adds five new ones, online gameplay, more mini-games and an enhanced story mode.

Features:
• 26 fan-favorite characters from the Tatsunoko and Capcom universes face-off in this stylish 2D fighter.
• Tag-team battles and customized two-character fighting techniques produce a wild, dazzling spectacle.
• Wi-Fi Online gameplay allows worldwide matches.
• Four battle modes include Friend, Rival, Free and Ranked Battles.
• Match-ups are not restricted to just “Friends”.
• Earn Points and Titles (for Title Creation) for all to see.
• All-new VS gameplay mechanics creates a new way for fans to return to the series.
• More than 20 Mini-game provide additional multiplayer fun.
• Enhanced control schemes offer a simplified control scheme option and allow use of the Classic Controller and Gamecube Controller.
• Wii-exclusive.

Allow me to beat Tim to saying, the Wii is finally getting A decent fighting game. Aside from Khameleon MKA Wii was the worst port of a widely hated game. And the Wii version of Guilty Gear was arse too.
Looks like I'll be dusting off my GC-PS2 joypad converter for this one, no nintendo pad is suitable for a fighting game.

That's a good idea. I'm going to purchase some now.

I am somewhat surprised that this is only receiving a Wii release, but from the looks of this year's E3 lineup, the Wii is getting some pretty good treatment, at least from first party devs.

No? I thought the classic controller was pretty comfy. And I suppose it's pointless pointing out SSBB since apparently the "fighting game community" thinks it's a party game.

Yeah, the classic controller is perfect for this game considering its only a 4 button fighter, so just fce buttons and no shoulder buttons.

Plus the d-pad on the Classic is pure gold.

I feel that Melee is a legitimate fighting game, but not so much with Brawl. Nevertheless, it's a lot of fun and it takes genuine skill to be an accomplished player of the latter game as well.

Apparently the first press release Capcom sent out wasn't the correct version. The updated press release for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is below.

Some of the things that were removed from the first press release are:

•Instead of saying there are 26 characters, now it's "over 20."
•Online play goes from being definitely in the game to a feature "they're looking into."
•They don't discuss any of the other online features in this version of the press release.

LOS ANGELES, CA, E3 Expo — June 2, 2009 - Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that the next entry of the company’s popular VS fighting series, TATSUNOKO VS. CAPCOM ULTIMATE ALL-STARS will be coming to Wii this winter.

I'm not shelling out for one of those. I don't agree with how Nintendo are charging ridiculous prices for parts of a controller that you buy seperately, when you buy a 360 or PS3 pad and get everything for one price. Especially the Nunchuck, because you need it for like 95% of the games available. And aside from that, the D-pad on the GC controller is far too small and sharp on the corners. I know it's not an opinion that's widely agreed with but the PS2 pad is my D-Pad of choice.

Samurai Shodown Anthology, King of Fighters Collection and Punch-Out!! say hello.

Didn't bother to include the other crapola, because it's been done to death. To each his own.

Punch Out!!! Isn't a fighting game. Not by any stretch, not even the way Smash Bros. "isn't a fighting game". Punch Out!!! is all about strategy and knowing your opponent, nothing else.
