I thought that all the different realms were separate.
I'm not saying that you're wrong or right on this, I'm just legitimately asking the question.
I'm fine with this being a new Sub-Zero if it's explained properly and it's not just "Hey here's a new random Lin Kuei that we've turned into Sub-Zero."
For me, a relative of 1 of the former 2 brothers would be the best way to go about a new Sub-Zero in MKX (nephew, if their sister exists in this timeline).

Damn a lot happened while i was sleeping lol damn timezones
anyway just so you know the difference was the conversation was still happening when i wrote my comment.... go look at the comment before yours back then.... That was the whole point remember -__-

Anyway i don't want to keep arguing cbf.

Saw something written above and i gotta agree with it, i don't want to see a different Lin Kuei member that we've never seen before be sub zero in MKX.

Boon said in an interview something along the lines of "He's a member of the Lin Kuei. We could kill him 10 more times and there would still be somebody to take his place"

I'm alright with it.
As long as he tosses ice, he's Sub-Zero to me.

And this new(?) Sub is easily the most badass one we've ever gotten. The things he can do with his powers completely trump the brothers.

I think story is everything.

What makes us seduced by a rivalry is not appearance, what makes a character's personality strong is not skill on an arcade ladder, what decided who works for good (aka separated and peaceful realms) or evil (aka war or order to unificate everything, or act for absolute power) isn't appearance.

Everything is story.

Of course it's a game, and that's how it has something more than a book, or a movie, because we can manipulate characters into actions of our will according to the odds of other's will or maybe AI. The more advanced it is, better for our entertainment.

But throwing the blue robes into the hands of anyone, IMO, is to turn Sub-Zero, Bi-Han or Kuai Liang, into faceless individuals who just acted for a short time and whatever. It's like taking away the unique traces of them and just giving a $#!¬, no matter what weapon, what slide he can make: it's a guy who freezes, so what differs them it's who they really are.

So I'm really wanting for Boon to be double crossing us and "this guy" be one of the two. Really, I think it's forcing a lot to put a new one just to have Sub-Zero back when he shouldn't be back (by logic of an illogical rape on Kuai and a mysterious ending for Bi-Han), but WE NEED him on the game, but not anyone who can freeze, we need THEM. That's why I'm on the Champion theory: it's the chance of doing many things. If it's anyone, sexual change for Frost on Shang Tsung's flesh pits and we have a brand new sub-Zero for the sake of the temperature and NRS pockets (and our single player entertaniment).

Single player is just for fun. Is to mock our brothers and sisters, is to perform gruesome fatalities, laugh at many finishers, have that emotion of reaching the boss or defeating that character you dislike...but on the story, that moves everything, I really would care having a new Sub-Zero.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like him. But, at first, "he" would need to "prove" he was as well developed as the others and worthy of the name. Still, makes the name just a name. My refrigerator will be called Cyber Sub-Zero.

That's exactly what Sub-Zero is though. It's a codename that has been taken up many times.

Story is important to me too, but I don't think it needs to be as in depth as the arguments here. I'm pretty damn sure that Vogel himself has forgotten half of the shit he has written for the series.

Story is everything to me as well... i wouldn't really care or have any attachment to sub zero if it was a different one for every game.
It would ruin the mystique that the character has.

I think i would actually be ok with it if it's only the 2 brothers that have a grudge with scorpion and vice versa.

I don't want other cyromancers having anything to do with scorpion. The lin kuei shouldn't bother with him, there's no point.
But i still would prefer there be a limited amount of cyromancers...

So, Vogel has such short-term memory loss that he forgot what he did in MK9, 1 game ago?
The old timeline is irrelevant as far as MKX is concerned.
I don't expect him to be precise with 8 games worth of shit, but decent continuity from MK9 to MKX would be nice.
Noob Saibot's whereabout are unknown as of the end of MK9, or if he's even dead or alive at the end of MK9, and Kuai-Liang is dead as of the end of MK9.
So, just throwing a new Sub-Zero in MKX would be a big "WTF?" in MKX to the 2 brothers, if those 2 stories are left untold.
Again, I wouldn't mind a new Sub-Zero, or even if it's a relative of the former 2, but I don't want some random person being Sub-Zero or their stories not having closure.
MKX is a game about passing the torch to a new generation, right??? (*Cough*Cassie Cage*Cough*)

This, pretty much sums up why I'd want it to be 1 of the 2 brothers (more specifically Bi-Han).
Bi-Han squashing the beef with Scorpion, the 2 OG MK rivals, would be great to see and something that hasn't been done before, IIRC.
Scorpion had no issue with Kuai in MK9.

Agreed.
A random Lin Kuei person having to do with Scorpion cheapens the whole rivalry.

The new Sub could have a rivalry with Scorpion based on two assumptions.

1. Scorpion is working with that new, black Shirai Ryu member.
2. They're working on bringing the Shirai Ryu back.


This Sub-Zero is loyal to the Lin Kuei, and even acknowledges Scorpion as a "Shirai Ryu dog". A good old fashioned clan war.

1) That new guy could also be a guy from Scorpion's past.
The comic book writer said that the comic would tie-in new characters with the klassic characters.
That could also mean that based on the different characters past, these characters had relationships with the klassic characters.

2) Bringing the Shirai Ryu back doesn't have to necessarily mean rivalry with Scorpion.
If it IS a new Sub-Zero who becomes Grandmaster, he could also choose to squash the hatred and bloody history between the 2 clans.

"Shirai Ryu dog" doesn't necessarily mean that he's loyal to the Lin Kuei.
That sounds more like a Bi-Han to Hanzo, personal insult type of thing.

The comic takes place between MK9 and MKX.

It clearly shows that he's loyal.
The Shirai Ryu's mere existence mocks the Lin Kuei.
