Everything about story mode. Pics, videos, discussion, etc.

Incidentally, there is evidence Aztec spiritual leaders painted themselves with 'paint' (stuff like woad, or whatever it was they had in Central America, but that kind of thing anyway) and ash. Kotal is obviously based on that kind of cultural history, so it certainly makes sense that he would do the same.

That alt. costume (if it is one) does look awesome, though.

It'll probably feel like it was so obvious when we look back at this.I just hope he isn't the final boss.

Of course it makes sense, when you think about it. He's related to the whole "blood god" thing, it surely seems that NRS means for him to be important character in the series and he has a "thing" for Shao Kahn/being a ruler.

Disappointing nevertheless if true.

I do agree that you have good points, but until it's confirmed that it's paint I'll have my doubts. He's an Osh-Tekk, that could be some property of their skin.

Then again I'm not sure how to explain that other pic too. I mean the one with "human" Kahn.

It's ok to have doubts, I also took a lot of time to believe this, some time ago on his topic.

Take a look at his warriors in front of his carriage. They also paint themselves.

That picture is a Kotal Kahn without paint and helmet. People may be saying he is the boss just to troll around.

He could be, but, let's say that all evidence are not pointing to him.
Kahn Killer here it is

I checked the comics, it is stated in a previous page that Kotal would send the Osh-Tekk to the fight. They are either Osh-Tekk or Mayan, but are definitely under Kotal's command.

I was gonna make a joke and name it "Shao Kahn", but I forgot that his last name was Kahn. Lol.

Is it agreed that Kahn is just a title for the Outworld emperor? Because then Kotal Kahn would only have his surname, which is Kotal.

His father is Kotal K'etz, and he is Kotal ????

Well, that could just be some random alternate costume, then.

Word that Kahn is the boss is still around, though. I hope that it isn't the case.
PS.: He adopted the "Kahn" in honor of Shao Kahn, as far as I understood it.

But shouldn't Kotal have a first name before being Kahn? Or did his father name him that in honor of Kahn?

Anyways, Kotal can't be the final boss because Boon already confirmed it would be a "surprise returning character", and he is neither.

Kotal ain't really blue?

That's the most dissapointing stuff ever... Why make him blue if you are not really making him blue? If this is true NRS really screwed it up...

He adopted the Kahn because he's the Kahn...

Genghis Kahn, Kublai Kahn.. sound familiar?

Yes, it was revealed by the directors around 2 weeks after the game launched that he just adopted the name Kahn.

Kotal won't be the boss.

Also, Kotal Kahn is just his regnal name. He has an actual tribal birth name which is mentioned in the comics (I think)... I definitely heard it somewhere.

It's a bit like Temujin and Genghis Khan. That's where they got the idea from I guess.

That would be Khan.

Kahn was adopted in honor of Shao Kahn, who Kotal clearly has a boner for. One can go deeper and say that it is a reference to those in our society who claim that they are oppressed and want to be "free" but actually have a secret desire of being the oppressor.

Thanks, I'll take a look at the comics later.

Prime Minister Cameron.
Chancelor Merkel.
President Obama.

Oh... you're clearly right. It was obviously inspired by that though.

Kotal Kahn.

I don't think you've understood what I meant, so let me try to make it clearer: yes, it is a reference to being an authority, a ruler. BUT the ruler who inspired it was Shao Kahn.

Shao Kahn "oppressed" the Osh-Tekk, showed who was in charge. The Osh-Tekk hated Kahn for it, but Kotal actually thought they were cowards. In the comics it's very clear that he actually gets inspired by Shao Kahn and wants to be like him, a ruler. So he adopts the "Kahn" (not Khan) and sets a goal of ruling himself one day - like the one who ruled his people, Shao Kahn. It is both a reference to authority/ruler AND the one who ruled the Outworld. I never said you were wrong, I just added that "Kahn" came from one person specifically, who Kotal was inspired by. And my personal impression (that is: I see it like that, but I'm not saying that's what NRS intended) of it is that it is a nod to the whole oppressed/oppressor stuff that we see everyday, especially in so-called socialist countries.

It's amazing how I didn't want to read any of this yet kept clicking next page. I'm avoiding everything else now, hoping Shinnok as the unlockable is a double bluff and there's someone else, but I now there isn't *sigh* Oh well, the story and cameos within it should be fun anyway and even though some are mad about Rain being an NPC (So far anyway) I'd be happy for cameos instead of fighting the same people, MK's easter eggs and cameos have always been a strong point other games can learn from (The Arkham series did) if Noob Saibot or Frost turn up I'd be happy they even got mentioned!

Frost appears.

I had a similar feeling as you. I didn't want to get spoiled, but in all honesty I didn't expect any better anymore, so I just read it. I'm still disappointed by the fact that all those characters are in as NPCs (or DLC) but the same old characters are in the roster. It should be the other way around.
