SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

I facepalm everytime someone says Boon hates Rain, he never said he does. That's stupid.

I facepalm everytime someone says Boon doesn't hate Rain, its so freaking obvious it hurts.

If he liked Rain, he would have been in every game like his favorites Sonya, Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Jax. Rain obviously isn't among his favorites as all he does is make stupid trollish jokes about the characters and Rain only got into Armageddon because, well everybody got there even Hsu Hao, and MK9... well because of the fans, NOT because of Ed Boon.

But Kenshi is his second favourite and we don't know if he is in yet.

He may not be a fan of Rain but he doesn't hate him either, if he did he wouldn't had added him to MK9 or the MKX comic.

Edit: I don't know if I made a correct use of verbal tenses on the last paragraph lol

Because you know... it's only Boon that works at Netherrealm. No one else has any input on the decisions made for the game, just Boon. We simply are imagining all these other employees. The three that do the live streams are just a figment of our imaginations.

Boon is clearly the only person that allows or doesn't allow characters in this game. It's so obvious!

You're right, but two things to remember:

a) Working at NRS does not equal having decision making influence on high level things like story, roster, etc.

b) Ed does have a significant amount of pull regarding what he wants to see as the studio's CD, but he also has to answer to outside influences at WB, marketing has their say, etc.

It's not Ed only, but it's fair to say that if it can be done and he wants it done, it gets done.

Didn't they just talk about this in their last stream? They have meetings to decide who goes in based on the story they are trying to tell. It makes sense, I know Ed Boon is the main guy but some of you guys are acting like he's Shao Kahning the damn place

What I've concluded, and it's just based on interpretation, that if a specific character that is a huge fan favorite of many don't get the "special treatment" that their fans are demanding, it's Boon's fault and not anyone else. Because Boon is more so heavily known through the studio, it is in fact HE who shall be blamed for everything. Not the writers, not the animators, not the storyboard-ers. Just Boon.

Take a look at Rain. He's been 1.) Thrown in games while having no importance to the story whatsoever. 2.) Created from a measly little joke base on Boon's taste of music, 3.) Get's toasted in the comics... and for some reason, people blame Boon for the direction this character has been going in games.

These so-called "meetings" don't exist sir, they are, as I've stated before, a figment of our imaginations.

But all in seriousness, Boon isn't Kahn. And people are ridiculous to even consider that, as well as put every ounce of blame onto him. You basically have to be either way to freaking blind, or severely brain damaged to not know how working in teams work.

He has never won a Mortal Kombat tournament. You know, the title of the game.

Who cares? Liu Kang could never be the favourite and he won like 4 tournaments (was it 4? both timelines considered).

That's the most stupid reason for him not be the favourite I have ever read.

What I mean by favorite is the studio's reoccuring character and poster boy. It's like if they had Boba Fett as the poster boy for Star Wars Episode 6 even though he was only in like a couple of scenes and had little relevance to the plot. Not even with his master Quan Chi's help could Scorpion beat Liu Kang. I mean Liu Kang isn't an exciting character or as appealing as Scorpion which is why I agree that Scorpion is a better marketing tool but like I said it's weird that they wouldn't use more relevant characters to the actual plot and theme of MK. Someone like Raiden for example.

Like in terms of commercialism and trying to market a product, yeah, Scorpion was the right choice. In terms of defining your story as consistent, definitely no.

I would be the happpiest man if Daegon and Taven had their place on the roster.

They're the future protagonist and antagonist of Mortal Kombat.

Summoning a real dragon in the fighting, just imagine that...
There's so much you can do with demigods and not with mortals like Jax or Nightwolf

At the least in the comics Daegon is playing a major role.

He is allied with Mileena, so, all that Kenshi story I'm expecting.

That actually makes sense. Raiden would be a great poster boy.

I'm ok with Scorpion though, he may not be the most relevant guy in the story but he's one of the most beloved characters.

However, we don't know abut MKX, he's the poster boy of this game and as far as we know, he could have a very important role this time, maybe one as important as Raiden's.

Yeah, because his story is in some stand by.

To the present time, Kotal Kahn is without a doubt the current protagonist.

Not the solo protagonist, but pay attention that with him you can tell almost everything of all the other characters' story.

I think Scorpion/Takeda will assume another major role when he confronts Raiden.

And Cassie(/probably Sonya and Johnny, in a partnership with Jacqui/possibly Jax) may assume other.

But in the end all may converge into one major plot, probably what will be in the game about the latest 25.

Maybe now that Liu Kang is dead, Scorpion will play a larger role as a protagonist especially since he's not just a mindless rage demon anymore and he's clearly going through alot of development. If he becomes more of a protag in MKX's story mode then ALL of the current marketing would make complete sense. And now that Liu Kang is dead, Scorpion does have a better chance of being a protag.

On that note, Kotal does seem like the most obvious protag now. If he's not the hero of the story like Liu Kang/Raiden were in MK9, I think it goes without saying that he'll be relevant most of the time.

I think the funniest typo I've read was in the Deadly Alliance strategy guide. Claiming that Liu Kang supposedly won Deadly Alliance.

Scorpion's character in the comics is certainly a better one by a long shot. I certainly cannot wait to see the stories with the game after reading these comics.

Kotal is certainly one character I can't wait to figure out if he's good, neutral, or becoming evil. I'm sure a few of us thought he was evil to begin with. But seeing how he's like this hero-figure in the comics, makes figuring things out so much better.

Yeah! :marchmellow:
