The NRS Mortal Kombat Tournament took place last night. The version of the game that was played was a patched version of the game. The version is not final and will change when it officially appears on PS3 and X-Box 360, but it gives players an outlook on what may be in the final patch. Here are some observations. If you have more, post in this thread.

Freddy Krueger
- damage output has been toned down dramatically; staple combos involving EX ground spikes do 40% damage
- the gloss toss has more recovery frames (not 100% confirmed)
- projectile immunity glitch is still in the game but will be fixed

Johnny Cage
- f+3,2 is no longer special cancelable but f+3,3 still is
- damage reduction on nut punch (not 100% confirmed)

Kung Lao
- the spin (d,f+1) has no pushback on block any more
- the low hat (d,b+2) has a couple more recovery frames

Reptile
+ EX slide has armor
- slight damage reduction in some combos
- elbow dash is -21 on block; it is -15 on block in the current version of the game

Skarlet
- 17% of damage reduced to 11% of damage on throw

Sub Zero
+ EX slide has armor

I liked that Skarlet had a high damaged throw. Worked wonders since it's hard to juggle with her considering her launchers have slow as hell start ups.

Happy no pushback from dung lao. And that hat ******** too.

Happy about Elbow dash on block too.

Of course I'm happy, it's ridiculous to counter online

The reptiles dash thing was stupid. Yes it is hard to deal with online, so what? Many of the offline players said it was plenty punishable. And most of the good reptile players didnt ask for the armor on EX slide either.... NRS is catering to the online community at this point, which coming from an online gamer, pisses me off. The tourney players who work their asses off should be the ones they think of when making patches..not us.

It isnt finalized yet so I hope there are some buffs for Sheeva, Sindel, Stryker, Baraka and more of the low tier characters. but damn, im not a reptile player but that shit pisses me off.

That nerfs Kung Lao is getting are dream-like. BUT! His main problem for me are his insane choices of mix-ups: they should just change some of his low and overheads to highs.

Sheeva needs a buff, so I am eagerly wanting for news.

Yes because a move that is 6 frames fast, does 11% damage, causes knockdown, builds a ton of meter, gives him great mobility, and can nullify wakeup attacks due to constant dashing and messing up your wakeup inputs doesn't deserve to have a large punishment window...Makes sense.

I don't use the F3, 2 XX special string with Cage so I'm pretty safe right there.

However that nut punch should not get a damage reduction, hes already a balanced character why nerf him?

and how come I don't see shit for Stryker here at all?

His nut punch is EXTREMELY useful. A minor damage nerf helps bring the balance curve ever so closely and doesn't change the usefulness of the nut punch. It's not like they are changing the stagger after a successful nutpunch. You still get a safe jump opportunity which can lead to more frametraps, mixups, and the like.

Thats a huge part of Reptile's game though. It would be like nerfing Baraka's dash, which is a huge part of his game as well. Yes ONLINE Reptile's dash is annoying, ive practiced against it offline and it is 10X easier to punish. Im just saying, if you think the general fighting game community thinks MK is a joke now, wait until they realize NRS is patching based on online play...

So nerfing top tier characters = catering to the online community? Smart Reptile players don't abuse the dash anyway unless to stop somepony from doing wakeups. They always use it to either end combos or punish. It's already impossible to react to, so if a reptile player is using it and it gets blocked, he deserves to suffer the consequences and repercussions of his failed dash.

LOL People are whinning about Reptile's dash being more punishable? I mean seriously? Many characters have insane slow starts and specials that are extremely unsafe and easily punishable, way more than Reptile's nerf. I highly doubt Reptile - already a top-tier - if going to suffer by receiving a few more frames in his dash recovery time. I even dare to say, it was about time.

Now, I hope Kabal's projectiles and Cyrax's resets get nerfed too for balance purposes. Sindel and Sheeva need buffs. For Sheeva I only wish FOR her ground stomp to be cancelable! I don't even understand why it isn't already. More range for her anti-air and low grabs would be good too and less recovery time for them additionally.

Yeah, Cyrax's over 65% combo will become a 50% 1 meter bar combo :( So unfair for him!!!

*eagerly waiting for Cyrax fans' complaints*

Take out Kabal's jail string and Cyrax's resets.

/balanced game.

The only fix Kabal needs is to have his saw blade stuffable. It comes out at 0 frames which is pretty ridiculous, so even if you poke him in the startup frames of his sawblade, it still comes out. I main Kabal and even I can get behind this nerf. Other than that Kabal is fine.

Alright, I see your guys' points about Kabal.

But I'd like to see a buff for Sektor:
Sometimes during Sektor's up missile, if he is interrupted during his recovery frames the missile will not fall.
Even if it has left his body and is flying off the screen.

Miniscule, but annoying nonetheless.

This was posted by Shady9XD on TYM and I agree completely:

Now, I am happy that NRS has been showing constant support to their title, consistently attending community events and looking after the longevity of their game after it came out, however, there are a few issues that must be brought up regarding their patches.

While I do agree that yes, certain things should be patched out (Freddy, Cyrax resets, any kind of broken or glitched element), but I also think that they should hold back with the volume of the patches and hotfixes. Sure, some things must be balanced, but at the same time by consistently rolling out these patches NRS are not letting the community learn the match-ups, learn the characters, and in turn learn as to exactly what needs fixing and what is a manageable part of the game.

I don't think they listen to everyone, but at the same time, even some of the more respected community members have been caught *****ing about certain characters needing buffs or nerfs and then either taking those same characters to the next level or exposing the so called "god-tier" characters with lower tier fighters. NRS can't just consistently push out this many patches because they're not letting the game grow into itself, people figure out strategies and how to get past certain things they're crying to remove. This kind of extra happy trigger finger on patches may often contribute to unnecessary buffs or nerfs (JC EX Shadow Kick Armor for example, or extreme frame fix on low hat).

What I'm trying to say here is that perhaps NRS needs a more level headed approach where the gamers actually learn the game, play the match-ups, find ways to fight strategies, not simply cry to have them removed. Sure, certain things have to go for balance sake, but in many cases they are introducing a number of very unnecessary adjustments that will not only force some players to completely reimagine how to play their characters, but also condition others to not have to adjust but just ***** and moan so NRS change certain things about the game rather than letting people learn.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: And no sektor needs no buffs or nerfs. Hes actually one of the more balanced characters in the game, so I would rather they not touch him.

Yes, don't cater to the 3 million who bought the game, or the million playing it online, let cater to the same 50 guys who play against each other in the same tournaments.
