Smoke Thread - "Where There is Smoke, There is Fire!"

OK I think I just stumbled upon a stance specific combo for smoke was testing his 3,d1,2 combo and trying to follow it with a bounce punch (u1 or u2) when I noticed if both me and my opponent were in the same stance (backs or fronts both visible) I always whiffed the bounce punch but if the stances are opposite I was always connecting so I did some test with just the 3,d1,2 combo and as far as I can see the knockback is noticeably different between when you and your opponents stance match and when they don't

I already mastered (gameplay wisem the trophy doesnt mean anything to me) Sub-Zero and Ermac, i think Smoke will be next and this will help, good work, I really like Smoke, it was one of the best surprises of the game.

Yes sir, I agree with you. He's a very versatile character and has a pretty mysterious backstory so far.

@mrb1973 - Can you capture it on video and post it?

nope, you can do this in any stance I just did it.

The j1, 3, d1, 2, u1, Dash 3 xx Smoke Bomb 3, 2, f4 string can net you an easy 40%+

You can add stuff to it to make it more than 40% I dont like the combo as the u1 can be tricky online due to lag. But offline tournament sure its a very good and viable combo.

Hmmm no video sorry on my cell and it just must be a placebo affect thing(stance related) then anyway here's a 12 hit 56% combo that needs to be milked until the otg bomb is patched out. jump in with 1or2,3,d1,2,bounce punch, jump kick, air throw, smoke bomb, xray (I actually find the otg airthrow bomb easier off a bounce punch because the bounce is the perfect height for the kick and throw to allow the smoke bomb to connect) really saddens me that smokes best combo extender is getting patched out

Same here, total bullcrap. He has disadvantages already as it is (having to jump in to land kombos, Smoke bomb not hitting low, no high-low mixup).

What kombo do you find yourself pulling off most consistently online bmsirhc?

I have been lurking around here for awhile and came across this thread so I decided to register to thank you for the nice information about Smoke. I have been working on him as my first main for about a week, and starting to get better with him online but I did not have any good combos for him. Spent 20 minutes last night in practice and was hitting 7-9 hit combos pretty consistently. I am excited to get off work and go online to play now that I can actually punish people with something more than an uppercut. Hopefully I will not suck as bad thanks to this thread.

Heres a tip Ed, if you block a teleport punch or anything blocked that sends them spinning in the air, you can actually wait that out before doing your combo. As soon as they touch the ground, start the combo. That way you can avoid the air juggles right away and use the combo starters to pop them up.

Might be tougher online but this works 100% offline.

Actually its not inaccurate. Many noob I mean smoke players repeat the same 2-3 moves and perhaps just to make it look like there are not quite doing the same shit, they will toss in some little bullcrap combo. I had my fair share of battles ( If you glanced at my signature) so I am clearly aware of what I am stating. There is also a thread floating around somewhere called: "What do noobish smoke players look like" and many people have stated the same things I have. Perhaps you are just among the very few who use smoke legitimately. Thanks for replying nonetheless and sharing your thoughts.

You are sounding like a scrub right now.

Thanks for the tip. I pretty much only play other people online so I will have to practice that. I am an old school arcade player so I spend very little time in the lab and prefer to get most of my practice in online just to see how practical the combos are against a real opponent. I really do not care about my Win Loss record as long as I am getting better.
