Roster Speculation

In all honesty, the Mortal Kombat community has a lot of close minded fans. I think we might see more returning characters than new ones.

Ah, who cares for the respect of some old man stuck in the past. I'm getting real tired of you telling others they're not real fans. Like I told you before, I believe there's a Klassic MK section of the forum instead of bashing opinions of others.

Practice what you preach! If you want me to stop bashing people's opinions, why don't YOU do the same as well?!

I've played MK since the original. I'm pretty sure many here has as well. As I've said before, new is good after 20 plus years.

Dude, I don't bash on others opinions. I use to a LONG TIME AGO but I just learned to accept what and how others think. Now with you, I respect that you really love the 90's. But does that mean you have to go around TRMK, crying almost everyday how we should go back them. Since when were there requirements to be a "true MK fan" anyways? Ah, that's so biased.

Lol, I don't tell others they're not real fans because they don't like this. I don't bash on others opinion. I see opinions I don't like, and I say something, I have enough respect not to be a D-Bag about it.

And what exactly has "new" proven in the last 14 years?

I'll tell you a major one to me: Mortal Kombat can be competitive, not just a gimicky game. Not the best, but for their first time, it was pretty good. NRS is still learning.

That people still love Mortal Kombat when each game has brought something new to the table.

Every new character in MK 2 and 3 are fan favorites. MK4 has Quan Chi whom is also a fan favorite. When MK went 3D they doubled their sales. Mortal Kombat is one of longest running game series. Surely they didn't achieve that by making the same game.

Your past, no matter how distant, can still be used against you, especially when you're calling someone out for the very same transgressions you once did.

You joined less than a year after he did. When the hell are you gonna change? lol

That's a horrible statement. If somebody moves on from the past, you can't look back to it and say "that is a reflect of who you are now" when it clearly isn't. Can you use it to disprove statements from that time period? Sure. But you can't say you were an asshole in 2010 so even though you're a pretty nice guy now you're still an asshole. It doesn't work that way.

Depends on what you actually did in the past. If you caused a world war, tortures and other horrible things, you should have no mercy on you no matter what.

Well... that's kind of a given. I was speaking more in reference to somewhat less extreme actions?

Besides, those people tend to be shot, hung, drawn and quartered, etc. before they get the chance to repent regardless.

Only in a "debate" with Tarkatan Trash where the subject matter starts from the inclusion of new characters in MK and ends up on the topic of ethics. This shit is worse than presidential debates.

Bottom line, new characters are a part of almost every fighting game series. Unfortunately, with MK, the latter games' new characters were for the most part stale. Which is why it was necessary to reboot the series with the originals + Quan Chi. I'm inclined to believe NRS learned their lesson this time around in regards to the newbies, especially with the reaction they've gotten so far, which had more or less been overly positive. Part of being a MK Fan is being an Optimist. Not everything is going to tickle your fancy at first, but speaking from experience, some of the things that I initially thought I wouldn't like, I ended up liking.

Now I know I'm probably going to get a typical Tarkatan Trash "rebuttal" where he just counters your point by reiterating what he wants (for example, in response to this post, I'm expecting "But Rookies still need to earn their stripes, Rookies never outdo the stars!), but I feel like my duty as a MK Fan is completed by elaborating on this subject.

But you got to agree, it will be boring without him here.

This, the reason MK with new characters flopped in the past is because the new characters were often completely lame, or just re hashes of older characters that were no where near as cool as their original counterpart (Jarek replacing Kano, really? Mavado replacing Kabal?). This time around it seems they're introducing genuinely badass characters that should have no issue being cool in their own right...to anybody who says a fighting game can't be good without the original characters, i have five words for you....Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike.

I would love 14 new mk characters with the level of thought that was put into the new 4 shown.

@AMES
This. Agreed 100%
As long as we don't get a roster full of clones like Jarek or Mavado, I'm totally fine with new characters in MK X.
One could counter-argue against Cassie, but if either Sonya or johnny are in, and have unique moves, why not?
There's also the possibility that Sonya and Johnny both die, after the events of MK9 (which I really hope isn't the case).

@ Everyone Else -
I've been a 22-year fanatic of the MK franchise, and I'm completely open-minded to the idea of seeing where these new characters could take the franchise.
The old me would have boycotted the future MK X for not having my favorite character in it (and BBBLP, along with a few others, can attest to that), but over the past year or so I've realized that it wouldn't make me anymore of an MK fan by doing so.
I'd just be robbing myself of the chance to see new things with an open mind and try it out for myself.
People can change.
Would I have been PISSED (in the present day) if Sub-Zero was missing from MK X, sure, but with a heavy heart I would have still bought MK X and checked it out for myself, to still see if I like it or not.

As a die hard MK fan since the original game I would have been LIVID if this game had almost the same roster as MK9. I love the idea of new characters

Well, I still hope there's this Asian/Edenian female character who barely wears anything and still attacks guys in private parts like Jade.

If not, I'll just have Cassie Cage.
