Roster Speculation

Can't that same question be asked of MK9 Cyber Sub-Zero?
Yet, he was killed of in the same game in which he was created.

I think they killed him off as a safety net in case people hated the idea of Sub Zero being a cyborg now.
If they somehow wound up liking the idea, NRS probably would have just "reactivate" him. Yes, even though he appeared in the Netherrealm.

His design wasn't nearly as unique or striking (IMO). Plus, they half-assed the moveset by simply giving him a little bit of Sub and a little bit of Cyrax. Lazy effort through and through.

Agreed 100% on him not feeling that original and the half-assed moveset.
But, I was thinking that they could kill off a new character again in MKX story mode, like they did in MK9.

For example, I also don't think that Kotal will die in story mode, but what if the "fall of Kotal Kahn" actually does = his death and not just him being dethroned?

I've considered that. But that's not the same thing as throwing away the Erron design because they would have at least given Kotal a proper showcase.

They can give Erron a proper showcase as well.
I mean, I just don't think that all the new characters are safe from being killed off (I'm not saying that you implied that either).
I think that 1 or 2 of the new characters may be killed off, along with most of the klassics, to clean the slate for MKXI (or whatever they title the game after MKX. lol).

It will be Mortal Kombat Apocalypse because Armageddon is already taken and the armageddon is not happening, apocalypse is... it's different... lmao

Cryo I think i mentioned something like this before, Armageddon to me is kinda like Judgement Day. It's inevitable, no matter how many times you "stop" it or reset the clock its eventually going to happen. So call it Armageddon, Apocalypse, Omega...etc. Heck i honestly think maybe the next game Armageddon should happen without any reset button! That would b e a fine way to START ANEW after MKX!

Of course. I was referring to a scenario where Erron is killed in the comic and doesn't show up in the game.

Whether the MKX newbies return in MK11 or not largely depends on their success with the fanbase. That said, I think (and very much hope) that NRS isn't gonna let the fanbase bully them away from their vision, so the descendants should at least be safe for another go around. I can't see the descendants being introduced in MKX and then quickly being dropped if they are intended as the next generation. So basically Cassie, Takeda, Jacqui and Kung Jin are safe in that regard.

Unless NRS has big plans for them, Ferra/Torr seems like a character that will live or die by fan reaction. I can see them going the way of most of the 3D cast if nobody plays them.

On the other hand, D'Vorah seems like she's gonna be a new-gen mainstay. I don't know what gives me the feeling, but it's there.

I feel like Kotal Kahn is gonna be very popular, but this game depicting his 'fall' doesn't bode well for his chances in MK11. I find that highly unfortunate considering he's the best new addition to MK, IMO, but it's not like he'd be permanently out of the series. In MK, no one ever is (unless your name is Hsu Hao).

This is all okay, though. They don't all need to come back since, hopefully, we'll get even more new characters in MK11. Maybe more than in MKX if NRS gets a big enough confidence boost from the success of their recent creations.

If we get all the MK9 chars + MKX chars + new chars then I welcome it!

Speaking of new characters, I wouldn't mind NRS throwing us a God from another realm, besides the Earthrealm crew of Raiden and Fujin. No need to be protector figures like Raiden, if Shinnok turned evil, these guys could have all sorts of different objectives.
They could revisit that image of Raiden's colleagues in MKvsDC and grab monster face and one of the females:

If Kotal's dead at any point in MKX and still takes a main roster spot, I'd be pissed.

Same reason I'm not cool with Kitana and Lao yet. I physically saw you die. Stay dead for a little. Jeez.

what about all the mk9 characters that died and still took a spot in the roster? why shouldn't Kotal be in? lol plus hes already in. have you been living under a rock or something? he was confirmed to take a roster spot on day 1.

What about Argus? Father of Rain. And just because the game is all about generations add Rain to the mix lol.
Nah It wouldn't fit, hopefully he will be DLC but I doubt it so perhaps MK11.

With that logic MK9 would have had like 8 characters in the roster lol.

Um...

You okay?

Who said Kotal wouldn't be in the game? I said it would annoy me if he dies in Story Mode. It's because of the exact reason you said, he was confirmed on the roster so early. To build him up, and kill him in one game, especially since he's shaping up to be one of the few non-Trilogy characters to not suck, would be unfortunate.

MK9 was a reboot, of course you need the roster with all the familiar characters. Some of whom will end up not making it throughout the story. However, MKX is not. This is effectively MKII for a new generation. I'm hoping that involves breeding new talent who (hopefully) finally kill the Trilogy characters so we can move on with the damn franchise, instead of the other way around.

I suppose this is all irrelevant, since death means nothing in Mortal Kombat anyway.

well you said you would be pissed if he dies and took up a roster spot. so should nobody die in the game???

and they need to make death mean something in mk now. cuz then why would they bother killing anyone in the story in the first place? I guess if Kotal dies he'll be back anyway. why couldn't they just NOT kill a few more characters in mk9?

I'd be mad if NRS designed a character with a lot of potential and killed them in one game, while many characters from MK1-3 (even my beloved Reptile) appear in game after game with little to no purpose whatsoever.
