I think I'd see Johnny Cage later in the campaign as an older guy to show off his new powers or how he has mastered his shadow powers.
This makes a lot of sense. It seems from the snippets I've read that Sonya hasn't changed all that much, while Johnny - at some point in MKX - really gets his heroic shit figured out. I'm thinking specifically of his leading the SF, which is a huge step forward for him as a character if it's true. But you gotta wonder if that comes at a price, ie. Sonya's death. Regardless, it would make sense to hold off Johnny's playable portion until later on, because he'll be up to some interesting stuff. I dig it. I dig it a lot.
What do you think is a solid story mode line-up for both sides of the Netherrealm War?
Raiden, Fujin, Sonya, Johnny, Kenshi, Bi-Han (?), Scorpion vs. Shinnok, Quan Chi, Scorpion, Reiko (?), Noob Saibot (?), Kuai Liang, Kitana, Kung Lao, Jax, Smoke (?)
I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see Kano ally with the good guys during the Netherrealm War. There's a difference between helping arm a Mongolian Horde while staying buddy-buddy with their warlord, and helping a warlock who consorts with demons and his fallen Elder God master. Of course, whether Kano realizes or cares is very much up in the air.
I could see Ermac having a small role on either side of the conflict based on his association with Shao Kahn. Does he now owe allegiance to Quan Chi? Does he want revenge against Quan Chi for essentially throwing Shao Kahn to the wolves?
The last unknown variable is Liu Kang. Even if he is the main antagonist, and NRS decides to start setting him up in this portion of the story, I just can't see him working against the forces of Earthrealm. Maybe he challenges Raiden for the right to lead Earth's forces?
I hope to god you're right about Scorpion getting the last chapter of the war. That would be so fitting and satisfying.
I don't even want to think about what kind of contrived good guy vs good guy fights they're gonna think up for this arc.
Pls no.
Was there even
one good guy vs good guy fight in MK9 that worked? I guess Scorpion vs Sub-Zero, for some very distorted definitions of good vs good (but that's kind of the point, Lawful Good types tend to get along). Maybe a fight between Kung Lao and Liu Kang, for the right to challenge Shao Kahn, would have worked... but, hey, that one's not in the game!
If anything gives me hope it's that the lack of a tournament in MKX could lead to an ambiguity between who exactly needs to get their ass whooped and who doesn't. So while there might not be many legitimate good vs. good, we could get a lot of exciting good vs. neutral/neutral vs. evil.
