Now that we've seen the entire roster, their variations and videos of their gameplay, fatalities, costumes, etc. rank the roster from most desired to play as to least.
1. Mileena
Mileena looks amazing. Simply too amazing. It's like NRS listened to fans after MK9.
2. Kenshi
I've always been a Kenshi fan and there has never been a reason for me to stop being a Kenshi fan. His look, his variations, his fatalities, etc. have all been top tier to me.
3. D'Vorah
I'm an instant D'Vorah fan.
4. Kitana
I've always been mixed about Kitana. I either love her or hate her in a game, but I am undeniably good with her. Normally, as I've done in the past, I'll ignore her mostly due me not being a huge fan of the character itself, but in MKX, she just looks too amazing. I'm going to play the shit out of all her variations.
5. Shinnok
Shinnok looks amazing and I've been dying to play this character again since Armageddon. Always been a Shinnok fan and this game only justifies way I love him so much.
6. Kung Jin
Jin is another character I like, largely because of his look and personality, so he'll be someone I stubbornly force myself to learn in hopes of eventually getting good with. However, I know the only variation that I will stick with will be ancestral.
7. Jacqui Briggs
"She's so boring and generic. I want another elemental ninja!!!"
- Delusional MK fans.
8. Takeda
Takeda looks incredible. Easily the most well-received new hero, and for good reason. All his variations look interesting, and I'm extremely hyped to test him out. I can see him being a very OP character, so that might turn me off of him a little, though.
9. Kotal Kahn
Kotal does not seem like a character I would be good with, but given his look, and his interesting variations, I'm going to stubbornly spend quite a lot of time trying with him. I like him that much.
10. Kano
As most of already stated, Kano looks amazing in this game. I'm already a big Kano fan, but MKX takes him to another level. Two of his variations interest me greatly (Commando and Cutthroat) so I've have to give him a try eventually.
11. Ermac
Ermac looks horrifying in this game and he also looks extremely fun to play as.
12. Quan Chi
I've always liked Quan Chi, and I do not get the hate he receives. His warlock variation looks like it'll be extremely fun to play and I'm willing to give him a chance because of it, even if I've never been able to pick up Quan in a game.
13. Sonya Blade
I'm going to be that guy and admit I'm biased toward Sonya given her voice actress. Yes, I'm that shallow, but Tricia Helfer has made me hype for Sonya. Also, Sonya's covert ops variation looks amazing and 100% the way I like to play my characters.
14. Erron Black
I understand the hype over this character. He looks extremely fresh (not in the face, of course) and has some of the key qualities of the most popular MK characters.
15. Cassie Cage
Love the idea of the main hero being female and I think Cassie is both hilarious and interesting. I just feel like those higher than her fit my playing style more. I might change my mind just for her intros.
16. Ferra/Torr
I'm rooting for these guys
Sadly, I'm not a huge fan of big slow characters. I know the fan reaction to them as been underwhelming, but I really do like them a lot and find Ferra hilarious.
17. Sub-Zero
I like Sub-Zero, but he, Reptile and Scorpion of always been the ninjas I like the least. I think he looks amazing, I just think other characters look more interesting to me.
18. Jax
Jax looks pretty amazing in this game (minus the awful variation names. All American? :/) Possibly the best Jax has looked since MKII, but unfortunately, I've never been a Jax fan gameplay wise. None of his variations seem to appeal to me in the slightest.
19. Reptile
Reptile as a jobber in another MK game? No way! Reptile seems to have the least inspired variations, fatalities and storyline of all the roster, so naturally, I'm not hyped at all for him. Both of his costumes are amazing, though.
20. Liu Kang
Dualist Liu Kang is really cool for me. This is the most I've liked Liu Kang since Zombie Liu, but sadly, the other characters just interest me more. It also doesn't help that I'm not hyped for him in the story at all.
21. Johnny Cage
Johnny is awesome in MK X. His intros are hilarious, they made him have an intriguing storyline and he finally got the girl. However, I've never been that interested in using Johnny. Too many other characters that I find more interesting.
22. Scorpion
I am going to be a complete hipster and say "F this guy". Way, way, way too much Scorpion. Too much attention from NRS and too much of him online. They gave him his first solid storyline since like MK1, and that's awesome (plus, his Hanzo costume is fantastic), but overexposure has made me grow sour to the character. Oh, and his variations are pretty generic.
23. Raiden
Raiden has amazing variations, really. He's definitely going to be a force in this game, but, for some reason, I've never been that good with Raiden. Every single game, I try to play him, and I just move away from the character and find someone more interesting to play with. I doubt this game will be any different, so I'll be focusing my attention on other, more interesting (to me) characters.
24. Kung Lao
Kung Lao seems, at surface level, to be an interesting and unique character (killer hat, ftw!) but something just never clicked with him for me. It might have something to do with overexposure in the competitive scene, but then, I never liked him before I even knew there was competitive fighting gaming. His variations are very cool, though. They clearly put a lot of thought into him.
25. Goro
I've never been remotely interested in Goro, to be quite honest. Besides the comic, NRS has done little with the character and they seemed as bored as they fans are with him being overused as a sub-boss. They hyped him up huge for basically nothing and they're basically ignoring the comics. Pass.
Pre-emptive DLC Ranking
1. Tanya
One of my favorite characters ever, so naturally, I'm going to give her a chance, even if her MKX model seems really uninspired and generic.
2. Tremor
I'm excited to see what NRS does with Tremor.
3. Predator
The first Predator was a decent movie, but the rest were "meh". Not a huge fan of guest characters, but I will test this guy out.
4. Jason
Jason sucks. He's the slowest, most tired 90s serial killer ever. Every movie, he does the exact same thing, to the same OTT campy, unlikable characters and they've done nothing new with the character in like 10+ years. Naturally, this makes him a perfect fit for the MK roster.
