Question about the reputation system

I have another question too, why when I click the star the box goes under the thread and I kant click it? Is it my computer?
 
What do you mean it goes under the thread? Are you scrolling down far enough to see the entire box?
 
When somebody is banned, is any rep they've posted removed? What happens when a troll or banned user on a second account starts "avenging" themselves by abusing the reputation system? Is there a waiting period for people to be allowed to post reputation?
 
There rep does not get removed and there is no period before people can rep.

People think they are sneaky but they aren't so they wont get away with abusing anything. We see all, we know all =)
 
So you guys just manually remove rep? Seems like imposing a probation period (30 days) for rep posts would save y'all some work.
 
When people first join, they can't give or take points, anyways, which is why it just comes as a grey box, so, unless they get massive green rep to boost them, they wont be doing anything to anyone's rep, anyways. Same with people who have negative rep (the skulls under their name). Anything grey is nothing and even if a new person has a single MK logo under their name, they will barely touch your points.

The rep system helps us determine who is a good poster and who isn't a good poster. If we see someone with one or more skulls (this is going with the idea that the neg reps this person has are justified), we know this is someone we need to look out for and it is easier to focus on these guys and have them banned, if they create trouble.

This is just my personal opinion but I think people are looking into the rep too much and taking it too seriously....it's just a box in a forum, it should mean nothing to people....but, since it does hold some meaning for members, we keep it there because it is rewarding when someone finds new info or puts up art or a story or just makes a generally good post and gets a green rep for it. It shows that your fellow members have taken the time to look at your post and appreciate it. Neg reps are there for the reason I stated in my first paragraph. Yes, disapproving/approving is subjective but did you ever notice how no one complains when they get a green rep with no comment but they will complain when they get a neg with no comment? People wont ever complain about an unjustified green rep but they complain about an unjustified neg rep....quite silly, imo.

People just shouldn't take the negs to heart....people are free to approve or disapprove of any post they want, IF it is a justified reason and not given just because they don't like the person or because they want to be a douchebag.


I also want to thank you guys for reporting unjustified neg reps, it really is appreciated, and it does help us to track who is abusing the system. As of this moment, I think only admins can delete the negs but we are trying to have the mods gain security for it as well so we can help you guys out with it so your negs wont disappear right away, just give us a bit of time to try to get this security issue resolved, if possible, so keep your pants on ;P

I'd forgotten about the proportional stuff. With that being the case, it won't dramatically effect anyone if someone gives people negative rep to be an ass, and anyone with the "clout" to seriously change someone's rep usually isn't gonna disperse rep without warrant (good or bad), so it's already pretty balanced. I don't think removing rep being necessary too often, so... never mind my previous post.

Exactly, that's what the rep power # in your user block shows. The more good reputation you get, the more power you'll gain. It encourages people to post good things, and not be asshats. As they say, with great power comes great responsibility.

Why does my Rep reset?
When I had 32 rep power, the next time I got here it was 30, but there was no negative rep message.
The same thing just happened, went from 42 to 40.

I'm not *****ing about losing rep, I just want to make sure I'm not pissing the wrong people off.
 
The rep is weird, just ignore it. Mine changes sometimes as well. My give/take amount seems to change at random. Maybe just a glitch.

Do infractions affect rep?
 
No, infractions do not do anything to rep.

It's messed up like the rep power and dragon logos, lol. The rep power and points just don't match up or make sense. Best to pretend it isn't even there.
