PSN Hacking/Return/Etc. Discussion ~ Do Not Make Anymore Threads

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

I know this is far from the most important thing at stake (obviously) - but does anyone know if the trophies we earn while the system is down will be applied to our account once it comes back up?

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Have the advantage of what, exactly... playing online the way Sony guys had the advantage when Live went down for two weeks?

Yeah people seem to forget when Xbox Live was down for almost two weeks around Christmas. That was a much larger impact than this because of the money we pay for Xbox Live.

That said Microsoft just gave everyone a free Xbox Live game, I wonder what Sony will do.

I would be greatly happy if we got a PSN game but I doubt they will do that. In all honesty, I just want service returned asap and my info safe and untouched. If they can manage to have light service up by the weekend I'll be fine. Not sure if I will ever feel the same about Sony in general but from here on out I'll just use prepaid cards to be safe.

My guess is that PSN users will probably get something like a 50% off sale on the PSN Store or a free month of PSN Plus. :\
By the way, thanks for the quick username change. :)

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Sony better give us a free Download for all this ******** , i'm really pissed off

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Just a quick note, Sony updated their F.A.Q. a few minutes ago and confirmed that the credit card data was infact encrypted. No plaintext here.

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Apparently Sony is enlisting the aid of the FBI; also the British government is getting involved; article here: http://tinyurl.com/3wkbewq

Sony reported the breach to the FBI's cybercrimes unit in San Diego, which is investigating, a person familiar with the probe told Reuters

I'm not sure if that is common when it comes to incidents like this, but I thought it was something you all might wanna know.

Who ever did this is in a world of hurt when they get caught.

Edit: After reading, it may be Sony in a pile.

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Alright, take a deep breath everyone. It's just a video game. Although there have been a multitude of studies highlighting the the fact that surgeons who play 1-3 hours of video game per week ate 27% more likely to successfully complete the surgery and complete it about 36% quicker than their non-gaming counterparts, i think avid games need to realize video games don't make the world go round.

furthermore, i really hope Sony gives a giant middle finger to the entire community demanding super sexy free downloads. The fundamentally flawed idea that Sony owes it's customers is preposterous. If it were a paid service, then the story would be completely different, but it's not. according to basic economic concepts our Neanderthalic great grand parents devised: a product or service will be exchanged for another product or service of equal and equivalent value, unless one side is getting horribly screwed. Being a successful transcontinental, multi-billion dollar corporation, i'm sure Sony understands these concepts better than us.

So calm your tits, be happy your credit card information wasn't compromised. be content with Sony working endlessly in order to erect a new, safer system. and be god damn happy they cater to your needs.

"DUDE I NEED A FIX RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

**** man, more than half the post i read sound like they were written by opium addicts.

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Since ppl have already given a great amount of info on compliance. Really at this point the only thing Sony didn't do well was inform its customers. However, ppl need to realize Day 3 the FBI was also involved and may have had them hold info for PR during investigation at that point, we truly don't know.

I don't see Sony not in compliance with CC standards due too the fact of the multiple sites they own with CC services it would be a completely stupid move since they were just prior to this instance attacked by Anonymous. We also know now that Personal Info Tables were separate from the encrypted CC Tables.

What upsets me the most is the zero common sense factor alot but not all ppl just are too ignorant to understand. (referring to response throughout the gaming world)
- Amateur attacks happen all the time to large companies. PSN and XBL are constantly attacked in various forms not just DDOS.
- Sony was directly attacked by anonymous before this incident happened which "usually" security is increased.
- Geohot or whatever, opened the door to the PS3 by sharing the jailbreak to the world. This opened more doors to hackers.
- XBL is not a bulletproof closed secure network, this attack could have happened to any company when you have a skilled and dedicated group with the resources and will to target.
- The first class action lawsuit should not have been a shock. The law firm easily gets publicity and in the long run if evidence favors them a large amount of money. Much much more than the consumer deserves.

I suppose it would help with some of the people who been wanting it for a while, maybe help smooth things over with the people who've been asking for it. In my opinion, its one of the small things Sony can do to at least bring back some of the people who decided to leave.

I think its pure rumor, they honestly have way more important things going on atm, unless these new services were already completed and got through QA and finalized prior to the incident.

Yeah it would be nice if Sony compensated psn users with a game or maybe a free month of PSN + or something along those lines.

But idk, it's just good to hear no one's having credit problems as of yet. I mean, no PSN is one thing, issues with credit is hell.
