PSN Hacking/Return/Etc. Discussion ~ Do Not Make Anymore Threads

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

This pisses me off even more in that I LOVED the ps3. I absolutely loved it after switching from the 360. Now this.. ****ing awesome job sony. I can't wait to have my identity stolen..

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

I'm sorry for all the PSN users here. Only thing you can really do is start changing your private info and hope for the best.

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Except for downloading dlc and demos, I don't spend enough time online to justify paying for online service, regardless of how much better XBL may be. It's just a matter of personal preference. I hate it when either side has to gloat like mean-spirited children when the rival company falters.

I'm glad my credit card associated with PSN was cancelled a long time ago. I use prepaid cards now, and my funds are meager to boot. PSN being down is petty in the grand scheme of things, I'm more worried personal information being exposed. Sony got too complacent with their security, on the other end there are unscrupulous hackers who ruin everything for honest consumers....*shakes head*

Ugh... It's just so annoying... I have to go back and change EVERYTHING. Because of psn. This is inexcusable. I want some sort of compensation for the shit job sony has done in informing us. I really would've rather known this the day THEY knew everyone's personal information had been compromised. That is MY information. Why the **** wouldn't I have a right to know?? I'm done. I'm so done with Sony. This is just depressing.

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Man I remember when something similiar happened in 2007 to xbox live, although I don't think it was anywhere near the scale of this.
Was a tense few weeks after that, not due to credit card info (I use pre paid cards for everything), but due to passwords and emails. Best thing to do now is just to go and change all your passwords that are the same or really similiar (i.e adding '1' to the end of the password) and hope for the best.

As I posted in one of the other threads:

Reality-"While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility."

Delusion-"Holy Jesus everyone in the universe needs to run out and chop up their credit cards right now."

Chill out, world. Yes your name and address possibly being stolen is bad, and you should change your passwords if you haven't already. Yes this is a big deal, but it's not the end of the world. Sony took the necessary business precaution by telling everyone to keep in contact with their creditors incase something went wrong but by doing so just gave every Xbox fanboy on the face of the earth a victory flag when Sony's specifically stated there is no evidence. Relax, make a phone call if you're worried, and wait for the network to come back on.

Or, we could do what (the original poster) suggested and all flock over to Xbox Live so the hackers will have a new target to do the exact same thing.

The people who were affected by this have every right to be mad for their info getting leaked, and yes Sony taking as long as they did to announce that information was compromised was a bad move on their part, provided the security firm they hired to investigate the situation didn't just discover this piece of information today. But as a man that's had his identity stolen and sold to multiple people, with 7 standing identity theft cases you'd think I would be the one guy absolutely fuming at this - I'm not. Because if you read the fine print, while it is a big deal it's not anywhere near as enormous of a situation as the press is making it out to be. Solution, relax.

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

After PSN being down longer than expected, Sony announced some person(s) managed to penetrate the network and there is a possibility that personal info has been compromised.

For more information read this: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/26/update-on-playstation-network-and-qriocity/

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Just as a heads up to people who used their credit cards on psn but deleted them or didn't save them, it's very likely Sony retained these numbers and they are compromised. Even if Sony did not actively seek to retain them, it's unlikely Sony scrubs their hard drives and backup servers with secure delete programs whenever you delete some of your information.

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Great.
So, on top of not being able to play MK Online, there a chance that I'd have my identity stolen AGAIN?????

WTF Sony.

New marketing campaign:

PS3.
It only does identity theft :-(

which is why im happy i never used my credit card. but still, why do hackers want 2 ruin other ppl's online experience?

Simply put.. It's because they're miserable *******s, that's all anonymous is. Even if they're not behind this (c'mon.. They most likely are)
They're just a group of miserable dorks with nothing better to do than **** with other people's stuff.

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

The details probably ARE known.
Whether or not they decide to disclose it to us, just like they did with this credit card / personal info, is another story.

Then the real question should be, what can be done about this to minimize the damage?
