Mortal Kombat 2011 story mode involved cutscenes, fights, and allowed you to control different characters for each "chapter", which involved about 4 fights each (with the cutscenes in between)

MK: Deception Konquest mode had you playing as a single character, Shujinko, for the whole story. It allows you to run around and fully explore all 6 realms doing quests and errands for people, involving a lot of fights (and some optional ones). It was more like an open world RPG in a sense.

Assuming you've played both, which one did you like better? This includes the modes' format and/or storyline.

Deception, as long as you get to choose an already established MK character to use in it.

The whole "Shujinko is a character that you have to build up" theme, in Deception, pissed me off to no end.

On top of that, he had:
- Sub-Zero' s freeze
- Scoropin's spear
- Raiden's Superman move
- Liu Kang's bicycle kicks
- Ermac' s Telekenesis Slam

Most unoriginal character, 2nd to Jarek.

I loved the style of Deception's Konquest Mode. It was really fun running around and exploring like crazy and I would be all over seeing that again. My only qualm is that for both Konquest Modes a new character was created and neither were the most popular (I don't mind Shujinko, but Taven sucked so very much). Maybe like Araknyd suggested, we see one (or more) already established characters doin' their thing.

I had a great time with MK9's Story Mode, but the pull of open world exploration is too much for a Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Red Dead, etc fan like myself lol.

I'd like to see something to the likes of Deception's conquest (where you can move freely), but you can pick an MK character to control, depending on where you are.

For example:

If you go into the NetherRealm portal, you can choose to control any of the following: Scorpion, Noob Saibot or Quan Chi

If you go into the Living Forest portal, you can choose to control any of the following: Sub-Zero, Smoke or Reptile

If you go into the Edenia portal, you can choose to control either: Kitana, Jade, Rain or Sindel

Etc, etc, etc, etc ................

Out of those two, I like MK9's Story Mode better. MK: Deception's Konquest was okay, but I preferred MK: Armageddon's "Shaolin Monk" style adventure.

i hated the fact that you had to actully walk and move with sujinko while in mk9 it was like a movie, you only had to fight..... So mk9 story mode was best.....

Araknyd i like ur idea that would be awsome for mk 10 maby?

mk9's story was the best story mode in any mk game imo. they shouldn't change how they're doing it, i think its great the way it is. adding a story mode with different game mechanics is a waste of time. its not what the game is about , the games about fighting so why not have that be the core of the game play.

A MK RPG would be probably the best thing to ever happen to humanity. It would start like TES, where you create a character and stuff from deciding between different species, and depending on which one you picked that would be the realm you would start in. Then it would have normal level progression, but you could run into characters from the series, like if you picked the White Lotus Society for your guild, you would start by taking orders from Kai, then Kung Lao, and so on until you got missions from Raiden. Then after you took all those missions you'd be like the head of the society! Alright, I'm off to pitch my idea to Eyebrows and Co., wish me luck!

I say mix the two up, however Konquest mode was way more entertaining looking for shit and running around.

MK9's story mode was much more fun and thought-out than MKD's Konquest Mode. I would like to see story mode again in the next MK but with the Mass Effect options of choosing from some options that dictate which way each scene/chapter goes. I'd also love to see the MK vs DC idea of being able to play both sides of the same story; play from Earthrealm's perspective and also Outworld's.

Definitely the MK9 story mode. If they could find a way to have BOTH in the game, it'd be awesome, but I think keeping the VS. Fighting style intertwined with cinematics as the core of the game is the way to go.

Deception was a glorified training mode with a bit of exploration thrown in. We had practice, why couldn't we have trained by fighting instead of move repeating? Story mode was at least interesting to watch.

Definitely Deception's Konquest. It was honestly the best addition to Mortal Kombat ever. I really liked the chance to have a glorified training mode. Part of the point of story mode is to explore the characters and discover what you can do with them. I also thought that the Deception Konquest was a considerably story.

MK9's story mode was really just a movie with a fighting game in it. It was cool, but Shujinko or not, I'd like to see a Deception style rpg for MK10.

That wouldn't follow the MK story, that would be just a spin off... Is not that I dont like the idea is that I prefer the Mk story to continue and it wouldn't work that way.

I suppose it could work like this:

1. it follows whatever the story o MK 10 is.
2. it progresses in chapters like MK 9, so in chapter 1, you follow character X to objectives, with each ending in a fight
3. optional missions to do for koins (If Krypt is in)
4.When you finish the story mode, you can choose a character to travel across the entire game world(s) and do the side missions you didn't do.
5. Maybe chests could still be in it, to unlock most of the good stuff (Characters, costumes, etc.)

I kinda like Araknyd's idea better, but this is just a suggestion.

I really like the Story mode, and would totaly buy a dlc for more of it. I think the worste thing in the MK9 games is how much deve, opment time they pout into it NOT being a fighting game. I do not want a RPG, or a chess game or anythign like that.. just focus on making it a tourny grade top fighting game. Sure if you want a rpg, make a spin off tittle.. but I just want a pure fighter. Story mode, arcade mode and online. IF this new Konquest mode had no toon unlocks it would be ok I guess, but I doubt I would even play it. I think fighting games should be like street fighter ae... you buy it you have the full roster.. no lame unlocks... go fight people.. end of story

Mmmm.... I can see it now. A Mortal Kombat MMO. I've been dreaming of that for a long time.
