I realised that after the release of MK Armageddon as well as the jump to next-gen, Midway has gotten the chance to really go in-depth with the kreate a fighter mode. And I also realise that MK vs DC will not be sporting that game mode. So, my question is... Should MK 9 have a kreate a fighter?

Nah. I'd much rather they use any development time spent on KAF for the game itself. I know a lot of people wanted it, and it was fun to play around with in Armageddon, but MK is still the last fighting game that the mode has any place being in.

After playing around with SCIV's Create-a-Soul I would love to have that in every game ever from now on. But of course KAF was a poor excuse for a creation system even compared to the earlier SC3 variety. So unless they put as much effort into it and make it as in-depth as Soul Calibur (Which is what it will undoubtedly be compared to) then I guess I'd rather not have it.

I voted yes anyway.

I voted no. I'm not really a fan of the whole "creating your own" thing in any game usually because it's never as good as what the actual makers can do and it usually shows. I know that probably sounds a bit generic/silly but personally I would rather the developers put the effort into making more characters/levels/features rather then give us the chance to make a few lame rip-offs.

I must thoroughly disagree with that. I think the characters I've made in SC3/4 are damned fantastic. I can't say the same for the people I see online...but really it's down to your own creativity. I saw a lot of really unique fighters from MKA as well. I believe 100% that a good KAF would make MK9 great. But as I said above, they've got to make it really really outstanding or else incorporate something SC hasn't to make it worthwhile.

But about custom fighting styles. That's not good. Looks are fine, but MKA's fighting style creation was atrocious. In SC3/4 you could only use preset styles and customize your look. I like that. Sure it means you're basically just making costumes but at least it's not unbalanced any more than the game would usually be.

no simply because those created characters are usually broken in some way and hamper the gameplay.

The companies that make these games have people to create the characters they put into the game, and thats the way it should be.

If you want to make your own characters, make your own game.

well what i disliked about MKA's custom fighting styles is they allowed you to try and string moves that don't flow in your combo's. that confused the hell out of me, i'd never come out with anything that looks right or had good timing really. i think if this is repeated there should be guidelines set by the game to keep a rhythm in the fighting style. like for example: you choose your first attack. a punch lets say. now of course you could go back and start off different, but once you choose the first attack the game then narrows down for you the best choices for the rest of your attacks that would flow well in a combo, then once you'd chosen all of your single attacks the game would further narrow down your best combo options utilizing the attacks chosen.

i vote yes, BUT with much improvement. little things that didn't make sense in particular, for example, what good does it do us to have goro's feet and hands when we can't add extra arms to the body to make a damn shokan? or why were we given the option to use a tarkatan head on male or female when the bladed forearms are only available for a male?

Btw i am new here so i would like to say hi to everyone

welcome Iceblade. you should post a "hello" in the new members thread, if the mood takes ya.

They've also got to give us a much larger pool of special moves to choose from. I wanted to make Classic Sub and Reptile but there was no slide move, no acid spit, no forceball. I'm against the idea until they learn how to make it right.

I love KAF type things. Especially in the WWE Smackdown world. So hell yeah to it, I want to be able to dismember myself good and proper.

SVR perfected it, man!kind of(theres allways room for improvement).Yeah I'd like to see it but no just a bunch of color changeable stuff.Actually molding a character.K-A-F would'nt even let you make a fat guy.It left very little room for creativity.More so just homemade rip offs.Should they improve it, *%$% yeah.If it's very similar to MKA kaf then don't bother. But, I voted yes.
