PC Version / General Discussion Thread

for some reason my PC version is now getting this weird laggy distortion in the background of every stage????? anyone else have this??

you mean the pixel boxes which appear during movement, making attacks and then flashy effects come into effect? Yeah. I am getting them. Sometimes then my fighter jumps through one of this distortions, that distortion looks like it gets erased. But then new ones appear.
It ain't on the level of Dark Forest past graphical nightmare, but it is annoying as well. It started to me after Tremor "update"

My MKX has always ran good for the most part. Online is hit and miss but can still usually get into a match. Most issues come from people leaving rooms.

I don't even have all around minimum specs either -

Q6700
8GB DDR2-800
Sapphire 6870 1GB
Win 7 Ultimate

Can get 45-60 fps in most stages with textures on High, post processing stuff off, 20% particles. Only a couple stages with heavy background activity slow it to 30fps.

CPU usage seems in line with most games @ 60-80% on average across all cores, sometimes one is slightly lower at 75%-80% of the other 3. Memory leaking doesn't appear to be an issue either.

But having said that, with so many other people running into issues it kinda goes to show that in the wrong hands PC development - even a port that should be fairly simple - can be a cluster. I'm still amazed at how well the GTAV port went by contrast. In any case though, DirectX really needs a more uniform API to help alleviate configuration/spec issues.

And what about laggy animations and Training Mode crash? After 7/28 update Ladder Ending animations and even Faction videos are laggy and my game freezes in Training Mode after 52-56 minutes.

did NRS really fire HV? and are they really having someone else re build the port?
Unconfirmed rumours.

There were a couple of strings of code in the PC version which suggested that Q-LOGIC were now working on the game, but nothing has been announced and there have been no updates as to the supposed release date.

As far as we know, HVS are still working on it.

Hmmm... unknown. So let's use logic. We got those rumours/announcement almost a whole month ago. After that announcement we got Predator and Tremor updates. Game is still crap for me. So I guess No? As Q-loc are the guys with PC port experience (sf4 is one of their examples) so I kinda don't believe they would mess up so badly. Unless HIgh Voltage messed the code up so BAD that even Q-loc is having a hard time figuring what goes where

I noticed something really weird about those laggy ending animations: after Tremor patch came out, I finished a Klassic Tower with Tremor and the ending video was lagging badly. Then I finished one with Predator and it was smooth. Then came the 7/28 patch and animations were always laggy for me. Then I managed to finish another Tower without a laggy ending and I realized that if I go to Desktop with the Windows button any time during a Klassic Tower and then I go back to game, the ending animation plays normally. I tested it with several kharacters, and it was the same all the time: GPU usage remained normal and animations were playing smoothly.

Mr. Ice Do you still have a Training Mode crash after about 55 minutes or am I in the minority who still have it? Most of us maybe don't spend so much time in the Training Mode for a session and usually I didn't use to but it's bothering me that I have to watch the clock if I'm practicing longer to quit before crash.

I can check. There was another small patch. I wonder if they'll ever put MKX and the Kombat Pack on sale.

Fellow members, I need a piece of advice here: some time ago DS4 support was added for MKX on Steam. But since I don't owe a PS4, I couldn't give it a try and my friends are either XB fans or PC heads like me.

I read that DS4 is pretty good for PC as well since there is a DS4 Tool or whatnot as an unofficial driver. But if I'm not mistaken, DS4 support for MKX means that it recognises a DS4 without any additional drivers - or not?

So my question is: can you use a DS4 on PC for MKX? Is it any good? Or do you need third party tools to make it work?

Any help is appreciated!

Immortal Kombatant Can't speak exactly for Dualshock 4, but I use the DS3 from my PS3 and it works like a charm - albeit being recognized as a X360 controller, because Windows doesn't natively support Playstation controllers afaik. It will see it, but it won't work out of the box. You have to configure it. With the newer DS4 it might be different, but I don't think so. You can either do it the easy way and download an app called MotionJoy or DS4/DSTool, DS4/DSTool being better and less of a spyware, or you can do it the hard way and install Xbox controller drivers from Microsoft using SCP - which sound easy, but really isn't since you need a bunch of other packages/drivers and there is a specific install order. But in the end it works better, because there is zero spyware/spam and its native. It will trick the OS to think it's a Xbox controller when it's not. With the other Motion/DS tools I think you just have to remap the buttons and that's it. But I avoided them, because I don't want to mess up my system. As for just plugging the PS4 controller in and launching the game, I don't think that's possible. But maybe some update as you say enabled that, don't know. Not sure if this is what you're asking, though.

Mr. Ice Thanks, that's more or less answers what I was asking for.

8/11 Update says this though: Button input icons will now display correctly throughout the game when using a PS4 controller.

This insist that the game will display the DS4 icons and not recognize it as a 360 controller I think. If that's the case, it should recognize not only the icons but the controller itself since the game was made for PS4 originally. It is an interesting question whether a game can recognize a controller if it is not supported by the OS. Too bad you have no first-hand experience with it.

I haven't heard anything about the spyware/spam thing though, thanks for the heads up. I'm still considering buying a PS4, but I'm more comfortable on the keyboard. It is inconvenient for some kombos I like however, so I thought I'd buy a DS4 to try it first, to see if I can get used to it. But it would be reassuring to know it's working fine on PC.

So I've seen comments on this and I noticed on the KP2 trailer that it only says PS4 and XB1 -- no mention of a Steam logo.

Has it been confirmed that KP2 isn't on PC yet? I kind of hope it isn't, just so it sells even less. At least NRS are consistent when it comes to ****ing over PC players. Unbelievable.

As a matter of fact, I only want KP2 available on The Pirate Bay, because that's exactly how much it's worth to me.

It's a long shot, but maybe someone could try contacting Warner Interactive's customer support or something. No one from NRS seems to be confirming what's going on with the PC version.

If it will not be on PC, it's sad because of other PC players but NRS and WB have been piss-poor in terms of support and communicating and therefore it's not worthy of PC version. And I mean that their s**tty product is off PC's limits. MKX PC players deserve better.

WB / NRS has been awful for being responsible of game's competetive balance, and meta and they are possibly abandoning one of their platforms and they seem not to listen their fan base at all in terms of DLC characters etc.

Awaiting Street Fighter V. Sorry haters.

I used to check steamdb for infos on upcoming PC patches as we usually had to wait longer for everything. There are new entries since the latest patch so anything can happen:

But... Apart from KP2 I am strongly considering switching to PS4. PC gaming is a mess nowadays. F***ing studios don't give a flying f*** about optimizing, supporting a game or even making it playable. Having a recommended setup doesn't mean that you can play certain games without issues. It takes numerous patches to fix a game, unless it is published by WB Games cause WB doesn't care anymore. They could get away with Batman so they can get away with everything. For me, MKX is still crashing after about 35 mins in Training Mode, QLOC or not.

And be honest - majority of MK fans are pissed because of this Rocky Horror Picture Show MKX turns into. And that's WB all along. Brian Chard confirmed it on Twitter that WB had a saying in DLC. Alien was an obvious choice because of the whole AvP thing but Leatherface has WB written all over it. Another bull$*** horror movie kharacter because it sells. And you gotta admit it since Freddy and Jason, it does sell. But it is for the wider audience and for people who cries for novelty no matter what it is.

So WB did the math: a $h**ty PC port+unwanted kharacters=more whining on Steam+people torrenting the DLC. People tend to do that, justifying illegal downloads with $***face publishers. So $***face publisher #1 decided to deal with the problem this way. And maybe it is better this way. More patches mean more problems and they couldn't properly port a single patch so far. The best part is? I bet that they will publish a Komplete Edition eventually to milk this $**t one last time in the end and they will claim that PC players wanted it.

My problem is: going PS4 means supporting f***ing WB once again. And I absolutely hate the tought of that. But MK is my all time favorite franchise so I will do it... But I won't buy a single guest kharacter. Tremor is my main and Tri-Borg could be fun. I'm not sure about Tanya and Bo Rai Cho yet. But I won't pick up anything that is not MK or Injustice from WB Games anymore.
