Ok we need to talk about the lack of female characters!

boon should just release another male character to troll this thread over and over again

then continue doing it for the entire roster
wont matter anyhow since he'll be laughing his head off to the bank on release date for that enormous paycheck

hey you were the ones who complained about man faces, giraffe necks, square chins and etc

Good for him. Everyone here are fans of NRS games. We just want them to improve on their female designs because they are atrocious.

And yes, Cassie did have a giraffe neck. Her biggest fans even pointed that out. If you couldn't see it then you are blind, a hardcore fanboy or just an idiot.

Huh... You guys probably shouldn't take this so seriously. I mean, it's not that you don't have a point, but sounds like you're turning this into a big deal, namely Misucra, and it's a bit random. Mortal Kombat is a child of old school gaming, it's in the fighting genre, it has males under 30 as the target demographic, and so on so forth.
After so many games with scantly clad ladies, let's not act like MKX is the make or break moment that will define gender equality for the XXIst century or wathever.

I'd like Sonya to have a realistic combat outfit myself, and I love that Cassie is decently dressed, but seriously. Probably a bad idea to invest so much emotion into Mortal Kombat of all things being respectful of the female form and dignity or something.

Reason why I take this very seriously.
If MK9 design never happened you wouldn't see me talking here.
MKX first character designs showed that it is going for more darker/realistic theme
Like most of the people here a huge fan of Mortal Kombat.
Mortal Kombat X for me at least is pretty special. X is my favorite letter and it also works as a mark. A mark for a new age of fighting games.

let's not act like MKX is the make or break moment that will define gender equality for the XXIst century or wathever.

Sigh... look. Just.. I don't need some political bullshit to be shown in MKX. Equality, or fem or any of that bullshit don't care (at least me). The only thing I want (and I don't believe I ask for much) is just that they would make females and males look properly. Especially females.

If female is soldier in special forces, then make her look like a soldier, if there is a princess/fighter, Make her look like royalty/ninja, if there is female bodyguard then make her look like bodyguard, if there is a queen, make her look like a queen, if there is a warrior... just make her look like warrior. That's all I ask. I am already happy with current designs and I just hope and really wish there would be no half naked females in bikini, wrapped in toilet paper or wearing "vest" which defies physics. That's all.

One last thing, I really don't see why people try to look for "gender equality" or "proper representation" in something like Mortal Kombat. It's a god damned fantasy fighting tournament filled with stereotypes and parody.

This.
Exactly.
Thank you.

The problem is that you're asking a mostly male dominant video game company to make women look more decent for a game that is aimed more towards men.

I'm also on the side of having characters look like what they're supposed to represent, such as Sonya looking like a militarized woman or Kitana looking like a royal assassin. The problem is that it's fantasy. Fantasy always makes women (and men) wear clothing that we know would never last long in an actual fight.

I mean, take a look at World of Warcraft. You have the male characters dressed in giant mail armor that looks like it weighs a hell of a lot more than the person themselves. The women are either wearing outfits that bear a lot of skin or they're in a one-piece with some armor on.

Don't get me started on the Castanic in Terra.

Fantasies always have women wear outfits that look like they'll never protect them in fights and such when men either look beefy as hell or they're wearing something that greatly improves their survival rater by like 100%

It's like what BBBLP said, it's a fantasy fighting game based on stereotypes and parodies.

Also, in the end, does it really make that much of damn difference what they're wearing when you're just going to be using them as punching machines? Does it really matter what the hell they wear?

I am a male, I have male friends. There are other male people with my mindset about this matter. So yeah practical clothing would be nice. Or are you talking about horny boys?

Also more and more games started to show females better. Both fantasy and sci fi military.

MMO's are... well MMO's. They have their own style and you won't see me saying anything about that. Hell I played as female castanic and reached level 40. Her design was painful, but I liked the gameplay with shield and spear. Tera gameplay wise was fun just designs sucked. Even so I am not invested in that game as it has some cliche story and is just not my thing. So no comments from me there.

Also MMO and fighting game.... I would say bad example.

Also, in the end, does it really make that much of damn difference what they're wearing when you're just going to be using them as punching machines? Does it really matter what the hell they wear?

Because there are people who like Mortal Kombat for story, for gameplay and have their favorite characters. I like Sub zero and Sonya (or liked her until MK9) the most. You immerse yourself into the game because of them. You care about characters, their story, about who are they (which MK knows how to do properly), what will happen to them. And when you play with them you start paying more attention to them. See all the details and so on.

In short MK has truly rich characters and people who have their favorites don't like seeing them being made into some cheap sex dolls.

No, I feel stupid for even engaging in a conversation with you. It's now apparent that out of those three choices I named, you are the latter.

I know that games are starting to have a more female dominance in them as of lately. The Last of Us is perfectly clear on that. So yes, I'm perfectly aware that games are starting to have more females be the lead or at least have them in a more dominant role than the damsel in distress.

I've been playing this series since 1992, I have my favorites both male and female. I really don't care what Netherrealm Studios do to them because in then end I'm going to play as them whether they look like an actual ninja or something way out there. There have been some times where I have not liked the outfit they chose Sub-Zero to wear, mainly Deception, but that didn't stop me from playing as him. I care enough about my favorites to not be bothered by what the developers do to them because it is not in my hands what decisions they come up with to do with the character.

I just suck it up and not be bothered by something I obviously can't control. This is why I'm not going all out and emotional like you are here.

Although I still stand by the whole "they should at least wear something that represents them," because I agree that they should. It doesn't hurt to see Sonya wear more clothing than the other females, and clearly, Cassie is showing they can do that.

So i'm just saying this. I don't have a problem with what they do with their characters because it's their characters and it's a fantasy game. It doesn't hurt to throw in some suggestions to other fans, but in the end, they have their opinions and we have ours. If some want to see sexual stuff, some want to see that. If others don't, others don't. Opinions, opinions, opinions.

I can tell just from get go, that you didn't read my previous posts, nor you cared. That's ok. Because last time I check I wrote that I PRAY and HOPE. You don't care how they look. That's fine! Never said anything about that everyone must care about that. All this time I was talking about a group of people who CARE

I just suck it up and not be bothered by something I obviously can't control. This is why I'm not going all out and emotional like you are here.

It is called being passionate.

pas·sion·ate
ˈpaSH(ə)nət/
adjective
showing or caused by strong feelings or a strong belief

You see I have a bit different mindset from you. Ok not a bit. A lot.
When I first got to play MK9 (which was on PC). I was hit hard by terrible female and some male designs. I couldn't play for them. All that get up and make up jada jada... just terrible.
And according to you I should have either stopped playing or
suck it up

Well I simply just modded them. Created more fitting outfit for them even if it was a simple paint over. Why did I do this? Because I am a fan. I care so much about MK, that I didn't mind spending hours to learn how to extract models and textures and then spend countless of hours reworking entire female cast. There is nothing magnificient about that, but at least I chose to keep playing MK and not bend over and suck it up whatever is thrown at me. If I didn't like it I did everything what was in my power to change it.

I obviously can't control

That is not entirely true. We as fans can actually impact the game development. That power comes from money. People who pay for that game, who support that game and the company.

But again I can only hope, wish and pray. Because as you said yourself we cannot order them (nor anyone is trying to order them) as final decision is theirs to make. We can only show our feedback and devs according to that feedback will shape a new game.
Companies which ignore fan feedback tend to make crappy sequels or garbage games which only hurt them. So in some way we can control that.

As for MK or at least MKX. Again. One game. I just ask/hope/pray that MKX would be that one game, where characters represent who are they properly and the game itself would represent the title it is given. Which is MORTAL KOMBAT not Mortal Sexy Time Kombat.

When I will have enough money and equipment to finish my game. I will make games by my mindset and I will be happy, but until then I just want one game to be that magical corner which could be different from all other games. Which values gameplay and story. A game which believes that it can be interesting without putting oversexualized females in it. A first game to be fully 100% worth of the title MORTAL KOMBAT.

Misucra if i reach 100 posts, and can give thanks,
you will get my first one for that post. For being that
passionate about it. :)

Have you guys seen this picture Boon just posted on his twitter to tease about the video he's going to share tomorrow?! It looks like Kitana's fan. I'm really hoping its her, can't wait to see it

Yes. Was posted a while back in the Media Thread iirc.
My guess is Kitana.

Except that I did read your posts. So, again, there's your failed assumption that you like to whip out a lot. You've done that quite a lot in this thread actually and to be perfectly frank, it's sort of starting to piss me off.

It is called being passionate.

Was this really necessary? You really need to "educate" on what the word "passionate" is, as well as showing me how it's pronounced. Cool, I guess we're playing THAT game. I figured I'd get responses like this back on MKO, but you're proving me today that I should expect them on this site as well.

The way you're coming across here makes you sound like you need to be labeled as someone special. Because you have this deep, passionate love for this series, it's like you want to have someone call you a "special fan" or something else. Just because you have this strong love for this series doesn't make you sound any better. And since you decided to show me this lovely little wikipedia snip it or wherever you got this from, I'm just going to say no, you're nothing more but just a fan. You're not special. So please stop sounding like you are. I'm going to treat you and everyone who has the same mindset as you as the same as I would as someone who could really care less what they have in this game.

You see I have a bit different mindset from you. Ok not a bit. A lot.

Don't put words in my mouth. I never said or gave the assumption that if you don't like something, you should ditch the game. That would be stupid. And I expect you to have a different mindset, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to notice that.

However, I would like people to just deal with some issues that they can't really do anything about it... unless they're like you and mod the crap out of it. A character is wearing something that looks goofy, meh, I don't like it, but it's not going to make me not play as it. There's some things that Sub-Zero is wearing that I kinda don't like, but that's not going to make me not want to play as him, or decide that I need to play as a modded version of him because I don't want to look at what I don't like.

I sure as hell never cared for his Deception look, I thought it was as shitty as Reptile's primary in Deadly Alliance. But did I stopped playing as him? Nope.

That's my mindset. Just that if there is something you don't like, you carry on with life as it is.

Well I simply just modded them. Created more fitting outfit for them even if it was a simple paint over. Why did I do this? Because I am a fan. As an artist and an animator myself, I see stuff like that to be somewhat of an insult to the department in charge of creating the looks for our characters. They take the time and the effort to actually give us what they think would be awesome for the game, and you take their creation and change it up to YOUR liking. Because you have a problem with the choices the team decided, you go and change it.

I'm not like this with all mods of video games, but stuff like this irks me because it basically shows you're not a fan of the team in charge of our characters. That instead of just dealing with their decisions, you HAVE to change it to where YOU want it to look.

It's this "me, me, me" mindset and I hate that.

We can sit here and debate what is suitable for characters to wear and what not to wear, but I'm sorry, I don't see this issue to be as big of a problem as much as you're making it out to be. You've admitted that you have a problem playing as the characters that are wearing something that you have a problem with. And because of that, you change it to where you can tolerate that. Which I don't like because basically it tells me and shows me that if there's something added in X that you don't like, you're just going to go into the game, pull it out, and change it to your liking.

That doesn't really show me the love.

Of course they should be wearing something that represents them, but if they're given an outfit, that's what they wear. If Cassie were to wear something what Sonya had back in 2011, I wouldn't care for it. But it's whatever. Seriously, it's whatever. And for some reason, my mindset bothers you.

Again, I'm going to go with what BBBLP said, you're talking about a game that is heavily stereotypical and parodies a lot. We are most likely not going to get what kind of Mortal Kombat game would like to see because for the last twenty years we haven't seen anything like that, and I certainly doubt they'll change it now.

When you get into the gaming industry, and you're good enough to become the guy in charge of everything, props to you. Hopefully, I'll become your arch rival with my company unless Blizzard decides to hire me.

Don't put words in my mouth. I never said or gave the assumption that if you don't like something, you should ditch the game.

I apologize for this. I reread your post and can't explain how I found "don't like it, don't play it". Maybe mixed it up with another forum message. Sorry for idiotic slip. I take that one back.

As an artist and an animator myself, I see stuff like that to be somewhat of an insult to the department in charge of creating the looks for our characters. Oh boo hoo. Artists spent countless of hours on making female characters which barely wear anything. That EVIL BASTARD MISUCRA! How DARES he to hurt the feelings of those artists for not liking their designs! HE SHOULD DIE AND BURN IN HELL!
Maybe I should write same shit to all my haters who send me weekly messages to my inbox with messages that I should die or watch my back, as I hate sexy themes and make all my females properly armored or just give them more brutal appearance, instead of giving them bikini and puppy eyes while they sit on a goddamn sunny beach with ice cream dripping from their breasts.

It's this "me, me, me" mindset and I hate that.

Yeah OK! Guess who bought the game for my PC? ME! Guess who plays it? ME! Guess who watched in pain when he saw his main character become into a stripper? ME!. Did I force my mods on anyone? NO! Do I have the right to DISLIKE other artist work and make my own version for MYSELF? YES. If someone doesn't like other people hating their work, then they shouldn't make it public in the first place. If someone made changes in my game to fit their own style. Ok. It would just show that someone really didn't like it and I would just take it as criticism and use it for improvement.

Can't believe I am talking with artist here.

If those artists got offended by my personal decision to mod their characters to fit my taste a bit more, then they are not artists. Normal artist would take that as an example, not as a goddamn insult.

I work for many hours myself, usually get sleepless nights. Draw and model things all by myself, so if I don't b%tch about shit like that, I don't believe that more mature artists get "offended" by that either.

but stuff like this irks me because it basically shows you're not a fan of the team in charge of our characters

You don't say! I am a fan of a goddamn game! I am a fan of Mortal Kombat! Of that fictional brutal world!

The very least I am thankful to all artists and other people who make it happen, but I am not gonna be a blind fan who will just nod his head and eat everything he gets.

If I don't like something in game, they won't change it specifically for me as I am a f#$king nobody (nor I wish for them to change things to someone's individual tastes). So I just change things myself if I can.

Hopefully, I'll become your arch rival with my company unless Blizzard decides to hire me.

If you want to be my arch rival then you will have to work in porn industry as they are my only enemies.
So in this case I honestly wish you luck in getting Blizzard to hire you

And because of that, you change it to where you can tolerate that. Which I don't like because basically it tells me and shows me that if there's something added in X that you don't like, you're just going to go into the game, pull it out, and change it to your liking.

That doesn't really show me the love.

MK9 was that kind of game. I wouldn't change shit in previous installments. And MKX shows no signs of needing for any modding. It looks awesome as it is. But if they gonna add some half naked oversexualized girl again, then yeah you can bet your ass I will mod that. Hell I might mod game later to make different skins, but not change original model itself. You know just to have more outfits.

That doesn't really show me the love.

Love was never an option for me. Loyalty would be better word to say. And they broke my loyalty few times already. Year long trolling about MK9. Then oversexualized females and mr.universes in game and since then, that just increased the number of ignorant people who tell me that Mortal Kombat fame rises from half naked chicks dancing on poles.

They broke my personal loyalty, so don't expect to see me on my knees thanking them.

I never saw MK like MKX until now. So I think they have changed a lot already and I can sincerely hope for more. Most likely everything necessary will be revealed today. Yeah... Today my expectations will be shattered or I will rise my fists in triumph and buy Kollector's Edition as my biggest thank you to everyone who made it happen.

Oh I missed this post of yours.

Yeah you're totally right. I am a fan like EVERYONE else here. Which I said countless of times too. I am just a freaking fan. Just because I will make countless of artworks or make whole comics based on MK that won't give me a special status nor I want to. Yeah I am less than average dude, mr. f$cking nobody, a liar, a virgin, I look like shit (not that I care), was diagnosed with mental problems in the past, my tastes are shit to everyone around me and I am a person nobody likes to stay around for long except few people. Perfect ASSHOLE. Someone you can pass by road and not give a single f%ck. Happy? Now you know a bit about me and you can see I am not special, nor I want to be and no I didn't say this just because you wanted to hear this nor, because I would like to get a f%cking pity from somebody, especially then there are also millions of people like me who have same shit on the plate. I just said the truth. You're goddamn right. I am just a guy who has LOYALTY to MK series (not f$%cking LOVE, piss off with that)not a celebrity with perfect body and face for which all girls would fall and who thinks he is GOD among men. MK is one of the few things I like. One of the few things that keeps me pumped. Not just because it is a game, but also an awesome world. And if someone were to make that world into porn wet dream. I would fight. Even if I was alone I would fight. Like every other MK fan I grew up playing it. I grew up with that world and MKX looks like incoming perfection. With everything perfect. No oversexualization, just dark humor, violence, fatalities, gore and awesome characters.

If I ever wanted something from people then that would be just enjoying my works, but not giving me special status or bullshit like that, so go f%ck yourself with your "special".

P.S I wrote to you passionate meaning so you would understand why the f%ck I care even about such small details. I am not an emotional b^tch who just screams and cries if her birthday car wasn't the right one. I care about this game enough that I would gladly work sleepless nights to make it awesome (that is if I was dev for it). Just like every other real fan.
