I can tell just from get go, that you didn't read my previous posts, nor you cared. That's ok. Because last time I check I wrote that I PRAY and HOPE. You don't care how they look. That's fine! Never said anything about that everyone must care about that. All this time I was talking about a group of people who CARE
Except that I did read your posts. So, again, there's your failed assumption that you like to whip out a lot. You've done that quite a lot in this thread actually and to be perfectly frank, it's sort of starting to piss me off.
It is called being passionate.
pas·sion·ate
ˈpaSH(ə)nət/
adjective
showing or caused by strong feelings or a strong belief
Was this really necessary? You really need to "educate" on what the word "passionate" is, as well as showing me how it's pronounced. Cool, I guess we're playing THAT game. I figured I'd get responses like this back on MKO, but you're proving me today that I should expect them on this site as well.
The way you're coming across here makes you sound like you need to be labeled as someone special. Because you have this deep, passionate love for this series, it's like you want to have someone call you a "special fan" or something else. Just because you have this strong love for this series doesn't make you sound any better. And since you decided to show me this lovely little wikipedia snip it or wherever you got this from, I'm just going to say no, you're nothing more but just a fan. You're not special. So please stop sounding like you are. I'm going to treat you and everyone who has the same mindset as you as the same as I would as someone who could really care less what they have in this game.
You see I have a bit different mindset from you. Ok not a bit. A lot.
When I first got to play MK9 (which was on PC). I was hit hard by terrible female and some male designs. I couldn't play for them. All that get up and make up jada jada... just terrible.
And according to you I should have either stopped playing or
Don't put words in my mouth. I never said or gave the assumption that if you don't like something, you should ditch the game. That would be stupid. And I expect you to have a different mindset, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to notice that.
However, I would like people to just deal with some issues that they can't really do anything about it... unless they're like you and mod the crap out of it. A character is wearing something that looks goofy, meh, I don't like it, but it's not going to make me not play as it. There's some things that Sub-Zero is wearing that I kinda don't like, but that's not going to make me not want to play as him, or decide that I need to play as a modded version of him because I don't want to look at what I don't like.
I sure as hell never cared for his Deception look, I thought it was as shitty as Reptile's primary in Deadly Alliance. But did I stopped playing as him? Nope.
That's my mindset. Just that if there is something you don't like, you carry on with life as it is.
Well I simply just modded them. Created more fitting outfit for them even if it was a simple paint over. Why did I do this? Because I am a fan. I care so much about MK, that I didn't mind spending hours to learn how to extract models and textures and then spend countless of hours reworking entire female cast. There is nothing magnificient about that, but at least I chose to keep playing MK and not bend over and suck it up whatever is thrown at me. If I didn't like it I did everything what was in my power to change it.
As an artist and an animator myself, I see stuff like that to be somewhat of an insult to the department in charge of creating the looks for our characters. They take the time and the effort to actually give us what they think would be awesome for the game, and you take their creation and change it up to YOUR liking. Because you have a problem with the choices the team decided, you go and change it.
I'm not like this with all mods of video games, but stuff like this irks me because it basically shows you're not a fan of the team in charge of our characters. That instead of just dealing with their decisions, you HAVE to change it to where YOU want it to look.
It's this "me, me, me" mindset and I hate that.
That is not entirely true. We as fans can actually impact the game development. That power comes from money. People who pay for that game, who support that game and the company.
But again I can only hope, wish and pray. Because as you said yourself we cannot order them (nor anyone is trying to order them) as final decision is theirs to make. We can only show our feedback and devs according to that feedback will shape a new game.
Companies which ignore fan feedback tend to make crappy sequels or garbage games which only hurt them. So in some way we can control that.
We can sit here and debate what is suitable for characters to wear and what not to wear, but I'm sorry, I don't see this issue to be as big of a problem as much as you're making it out to be. You've admitted that you have a problem playing as the characters that are wearing something that you have a problem with. And because of that, you change it to where you can tolerate that. Which I don't like because basically it tells me and shows me that if there's something added in X that you don't like, you're just going to go into the game, pull it out, and change it to your liking.
That doesn't really show me the love.
As for MK or at least MKX. Again. One game. I just ask/hope/pray that MKX would be that one game, where characters represent who are they properly and the game itself would represent the title it is given. Which is MORTAL KOMBAT not Mortal Sexy Time Kombat.
Of course they should be wearing something that represents them, but if they're given an outfit, that's what they wear. If Cassie were to wear something what Sonya had back in 2011, I wouldn't care for it. But it's whatever. Seriously, it's whatever. And for some reason, my mindset bothers you.
When I will have enough money and equipment to finish my game. I will make games by my mindset and I will be happy, but until then I just want one game to be that magical corner which could be different from all other games. Which values gameplay and story. A game which believes that it can be interesting without putting oversexualized females in it. A first game to be fully 100% worth of the title MORTAL KOMBAT.
Again, I'm going to go with what BBBLP said, you're talking about a game that is heavily stereotypical and parodies a lot. We are most likely not going to get what kind of Mortal Kombat game would like to see because for the last twenty years we haven't seen anything like that, and I certainly doubt they'll change it now.
When you get into the gaming industry, and you're good enough to become the guy in charge of everything, props to you. Hopefully, I'll become your arch rival with my company unless Blizzard decides to hire me.
