Official NFL Thread

Yeah. This past weekend's games felt a bit disappointing, although I'm not surprised for the 1st 3 games' results (CIN<HOU; MIN<GB; IND<BAL). And I thought it was gonna be a close game at 1st between Washington and Seattle, but when the 2nd half came and RG3 re-injure his knee, the Seahawks just capitalize on it and scored 11 more points and upsetting the Skins.

The Divisional Rounds should be very interesting.

AFC Divisional Round:
#3:Houston Texans at #2:New England Patriots
#4:Baltimore Ravens at #1:Denver Broncos

NFC Divisional Round:
#3:Green Bay Packers at #2:San Francisco 49ers
#5:Seattle Seahawks at #1:Atlanta Falcons

I thought the whole divisional round of the playoff will be the battle between divisional leaders, until Washington got knocked out earlier.

Sorry VFD. As much as I would like to see Mike Smith and Matt Ryan play in a Super Bowl, I still can't pick them to beat Seattle until they can actually prove to us that they can win a playoff game. Seattle has already proven that they can win a playoff game on the road, though, so I'm going with Seattle.

As for the rest of my picks?

Denver, New England, and Green Bay. Sorry Ray Lewis, but your ESPN career begins next week...

Hey!! It's your opinion and choice. Anyways, the Falcons definitely proved themselves in the regular season, but this weekend coming up is really something that Atlanta must do, AND they're very good at homefield, only having a few losses. The last two postseasons, we were ill prepared when we lost to both Green Bay and New York Giants. Now we're fully prepared for the playoffs.

I'm glad the Texans woke up enough to get at least as far as they did last year. I don't hold too much hope of them beating New England, but crazier things have happened.

My thoughts thus far on the playoffs:

New England will lose to Denver at the AFC Championship matchup, after (again) humiliating the Texans. The Falcons will beat the 49ers for the NFC title and face Denver at the SB, which will be a brutal slugfest. What I'm hoping for? Packers vs. Pats for the SB. It'll create some awesome tension with me and my Packers-fan friend.

Today on the street I passed a homeless guy wearing a tattered Andre Johnson jersey and whose sign simply said "Go Texans." Talk about the city getting into the spirit.

The list of finalists for the 2013 class has been announced. And unlike Baseball, there will NOT be an empty class, as there is a minimum of 4 inductees and a maximum of 7 each year (including AT LEAST one of the two Senior Candidates, and a maximum of 5 modern-era candidates). The candidates are...

OL Larry Allen
RB Jerome Bettis
WR Tim Brown
WR Cris Carter
DT Curley Culp (Senior Candidate)
Owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr.
LB Kevin Greene
DE Charles Haley
Owner Art Modell
OL Jonathan Ogden
HC Bill Parcells
WR Andre Reed
LB Dave Robinson (Senior Candidate)
DT Warren Sapp
OL Will Shields
DE Michael Strahan
DB Aeneas Williams

If ANYONE is long overdue for induction, it is Charles Haley and Eddie DeBartolo. They both belong in the Hall of Fame with all the rest of the 5-time Super Bowl Champions...which would be NONE! Haley in particular was the final piece of not one but TWO Super Bowl championship teams; and I know for a FACT that the 49ers regret trading him to the Cowboys, because that trade single-handedly flipped the balance of power in the NFC in favor of the Cowboys (especially as evidenced by the fact that the year Haley was traded to the Cowboys, not only did they win their first Super Bowl of their 90s dynasty, but their defense jumped from 17th in the league the year before, all the way to the top)! Contrary to what some of you might think, Haley did NOT ride on anyone's coattails to get those 5 rings; he earned them on the field (and for those of you who want to play the Montana/Rice/Young/Aikman/Irvin/Smith card, ALL of those players were on the bench when Haley was on the field for obvious reasons...unless of course such players were playing for the other team, so don't even go in that direction)!

Talk about a very close game, AND a major upset. Baltimore putting all the stops to knock Denver out of the playoffs. Now they're going to play whoever's gonna win tomorrow's game between Houston and New England.

The Niners are in again, taking on whoever is gonna win between Seattle and Atlanta.

The Manning fumble has finally confirmed what I have suspected for the last 11 years; that the so-called "Tuck Rule" was a ruse from the very start! Sorry Freyith, but your Pats were given that game against Oakland by the league office 11 years ago...

Baltimore's stunning victory has earned my Texans another home game if they can get past the Pats. And the weather in New England is going to be warmer today than it is here in Houston at the moment. The stars are aligning for my team... the players just need to take advantage.

I almost had a heart attack earlier when Seattle almost did the same thing that lead them to busting them Skins' ass last week. But thank God for those two completed passes and Matt Bryant's field goal that Atlanta finally got a playoff win after so damn long. To be honest, I'm kinda scared against the 49ers because of mainly Kaepernick. A very dangerous quarterback indeed.

Well, the final matchup before the Super Bowl is set next week. Here is the matchups:

NFC Championship:
#2.San Francisco 49ers at #1.Atlanta Falcons

AFC Championship:
#4.Baltimore Ravens at #2.New England Patriots

Which of these teams will represent their respective conferences in the Superdome for claim of the Lombardi Trophy?

ABBSF for the Super Bowl title...I'm dead serious about that!

And about Atlanta's win today...long overdue, and well deserved. Mike Smith and Matt Ryan have done far too much and worked far too hard for the Falcons (especially as evidenced by the fact that they have changed the culture of that franchise as soon as they arrived; look no further than the consecutive playoff berths and winning seasons before, and since) to not win a single playoff game during their respective tenures as head coach and quarterback, and the same can be said of Tony Gonzales for the course of his career. That being said, I didn't pick them to win because they couldn't prove to me that they could win a playoff game, and today, they have proven me wrong.

I truly believe the 49ers have what it takes to defeat the Falcons. After that devastating loss last season in the NFC Championship, they managed to fight their way back again. They're hungry. The Falcons are a much better match-up for the 49ers than the Seahawks would've been. I also think the Ravens will upset the Patriots. I was hoping this rematch would happen, as the Ravens faced the Pats in the AFC Championship last season and lost after blowing a field goal that would've tied the game. It's destiny for these teams.

My money's on a Harbaugh Super Bowl, or "Super Harbowl" as people like to call it.

I'm a bit uncertain for the future of my Texans after that game. Settling for field goals... not throwing past the sticks on third down... I'm afraid what my team needs to get over the hump has something to do with either the quarterback or the coach, or both... and those two aren't going anywhere any time soon. :(

As far as the rest of this season goes, NO ONE can beat the 49ers the way they played on Saturday. It remains to be seen if they can keep that up... but if they do they're hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

NFC Championship Game: GO ATLANTA! I don't give a shit if you have to lie, cheat, or steal to win...JUST BEAT SF!

AFC Championship Game: Well, I'm glad NE beat Houston, but I still hate NE! I may not be a Baltimore fan, but this man has been my hero since Week 1 of 2008!
