Nintendo Set to Reveal New Console; Sources say more powerful than PS3/360

The Wii has finally gone capoot so now they're finally deciding to catch up with the current technology. Personally I'd love to see F-Zero and Starfox with PS3 caliber graphics... or better.

I find this all pretty unlikely. Nintendo's strategy works for them (why should they care about third parties/everyone else?). Sure, we'll prob. see a beefed-up Wii that pushes more pixels... but I couldn't care less. Odds are it may be more powerful simply because the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 didn't exactly come out yesterday. One of my friends convinced me during this last round of consoles that Nintendo is basically a toy company at this point (compared to Microsoft and Sony from a "hardcore" gamer's point of view).

The worst part imo is that every time Nintendo launches a new console their nostalgia-drunk fans help them achieve a successful product launch and decent initial install base (powering their hype machine), and once that happens, Nintendo all but completely abandons their interests.

At that point, it's casual games time (never happy with an existing consumer base, as modern companies shoot for perpetual/unsustainable growth, they focus on going after EVERYONE ELSE (your grandma, your neighbor's mom, etc., hehe), because everyone else includes a lot more people).

Nintendo never sells their hardware at a loss (that I know of at least). They have a history of printing money with their current strategies. I don't believe they have the technical wizardry to compete with the other console makers on a technical level.

Microsoft is honestly the only current console manufacturer that I think highly of.

Too little, too late for me. Nintendo needs free online better than the PS3 and equal to Xbox Live, full 1080p, removal/strictly optional motion gaming, and an actual line-up of real videogames that people want to play from both themselves and third parties.

Big boy graphics don't automatically mean a big boy console. I'm not really excited for Nintendogs and Cooking Mama in HD...No matter how good it looks...

Completely agreed.

Mario and Metroid are great games, but the crap that fills in between their releases is unbearable!

I'd love to see more games like Madworld and House of the Dead instead of Pony Trainer and Shoe Polisher Man :?

Wow.

The best sources can say is that it will be more powerful than consoles that are 6 years old and should be getting their own successors soon?

Way to pioneer, Nintendo!

But let's be fair here. They did have Zelda, Mario, Metroid, and other games. It wasn't all Cooking Mama type stuff. And if Wii had been on pair with 360/PS3, it would have seen a ton of multi-platform games, including MK9. Multi-platform games are one benefit of "big boy graphics".

Word is that it will use blu-ray.

Anyway, whenever a new console is about to unveiled, the rumors can get out of hand. For example, CVG is reporting that the regular controllers will have HD screens on them. Sounds ridiculously expensive. I doubt even SONY would have HD screens on their regular controllers at this point in time.

Um, Gamecube had superior graphics to PS2, and games were easier to develop for the system. Sony still had more 3rd party support because of Nintendo picking a certain fan base. That said, this generation wouldn't have been any different if the Wii had the same graphics. They'd still promise quality titles and give us shovelware. Besides, as long as they can make money without putting out quality material, why bother trying?

I hope they take the gloves off this time. The Wii was innovative, but I want better Mario and Metroid games, DAMMIT.

my first fighting game i had ever played was super smash bros on the n64, ive always kind of been a nintendo fan boy. but the wii kind of did piss me off. i still own two of them and two xbox 360s and i play my 360 ALOT more. but if nintendo does make a new system i will get it and play mario all day every day!!

I agree that Wii wouldn't have gotten TONS more exclusives from 3rd parties due to Nintendo's focus (though I do think it would have gotten more, especially once the Wii took off in sales), but do you seriously think that MK9 and certain other multiplatform titles wouldn't be available on the Wii as well if it was equal to 360/PS3?

RE4 was on the GCN and was the "best version" graphic wise and arguably the controller was more precise. [bar extra content in PS2/Wii version] Yet, RE5 was not present on the console, but the REmakes were. Which were absent on the PS2.

I think that proves what was said.

Oh, I'm not saying MK9 wouldn't be on the system, after all Armageddon was on the Wii. What I'm saying is with the backwards compatibility and connectivity with the 3DS, this system is sounding like it's still gonna be all gimmick. Now, I don't know if you've played Armageddon on the Wii, but it is not fun...So in the end so called "hardcore" titles will again have to cater to the motion controls or handheld connectivity. Who wants to buy all that extra crap just to play MK9? Who knows, maybe they'll make a useful controller that is actually sold with the system, something that functions with all of their games. I'm guessing not though.

I think they've learned from their gimmicks. Even the 3DS isn't just all gimmicks with the 3D effect. If you look at Nintendo's preformance in the last few months, they're def. stepping up their game.

Bringing back Kirby series to what it was and bringing back the past canceled KSS sequal for the GCN? Check.
Bringing back DKC? Yep.

and more.

They're really bringing themselves back up on their A-game.

0-Edit: Also MKA sucked regardless of system. It wasn't fun to play even on the PS2/Xbox.
