Nerf Scorpion vs non-Teleporters!

Hi everyone!

Here's some honest balance feedback from a non-super pro MK9 fan!
I think Scorpion is too good/easy to play vs characters without teleports, from my own Online experience.
I've also been a lot of tournaments, and it appears that all the most played characters are those that have teleports.

Anyway I'm sure someone will disagree, there is always someone who disagree's.

Here's two nerfs to Scorpion I would like to see happen, to help non-teleport characters:

1) Nerf Demon Fire, so it doesn't "track" and hit characters using their only high speeds abilities to close distance.

First off, people moving around normally, on the ground should always get hit by it, no problem.
However I think it's unfair that this move also is pretty safe to use as counter vs fast moving targets such as characters using abilities like Kabal's Nomad Dash, Nightwolf Shoulder, Strykers Roll Toss, Jade's Shadow Kick, etc etc etc.
These characters (and others), have no teleport and their only attempt to getting close is by forward jumping or using these "charge" moves to close distance to a camping Scorpion player. Scorpion already has his Spear move that is very effective at dealing with these abilities.
Also whenever you get down, it seems like you can get a free Demon Fire off, if you time it right. You can't even wake-up roll away from it (as vs Nightwolf Lightning), as again it tracks the player. If you have to Jump every time you wake-up, to avoid it, you are easily grabbed with a Spear, which leads to my next point.

2) Scorpions Spear move should not be able to grab enemies just by hitting their foot.

Consider that some characters can only close distance to Scorpion effectively by doing a lot of forward jumping, as it is otherwise too easy to land Demon Fires. Problem is, Scorpions Spear move is very useful even vs jumping enemies, as it has this strange "pull down" animation when it hits someone jumping, by their foot, and kinda pulls them down and towards Scorpion.
Scorpions Spear move is so fast that you can even sometimes react to someone jumping and catch them before they land. And when your opponent does catch you with Spear, they essentially have a good combo or Xray ahead of them, and can then reset the distance again, setting you up for yet another jumping/blocking challenge towards getting closer to Scorpion.
Even Scorpions Teleport move can hit jumping enemies too and he has the air grab.

I dont see why it's necessary for Scorpions Demon fire to be able to counter move abilities.
And I dont understand why the already godly Spear move, should have such an enormous range vs enemies trying to avoid the Demon Fire spamming. I hope both these aspects of these two otherwise fine moves, are reduced a bit. For the sake of non- teleport characters.

And even if you try to take up the range challenge with scorpion, his Demon Fire will likely hit you before you even fire your projectile, and he can always teleport if you shoot too much.

Please note that I dont mind if Scorpion get's something in compensation, this is not about making him less fun/good vs the situations he is already good and balanced in. This thread is ONLY about Scorpion vs characters without teleport, that needs to close distance.

2 questions :

1) What is your main character ?
2) Have you been defeated a lot lately, by Scopion players online ?

I agree with you to an extent, Scorpion is supposed to be the character that's easy to pick up and play with for those who aren't familiar with the MK mechanics or just aren't very good. His combo's are very easy to do and some of his specials are less punishable than those of other characters. However that said; Scorp is my favorite character hands down, but I haven't used him online in weeks because he's just so predictable after a certain amount of time playing online. I use Kabal or Quan Chi online and players who pick Scorpion/Smoke are a treat (not because I'm amazing at MK or anything) but because I think these characters have a limited amount of mix-up combo's available and after a few weeks of playing you're able to see when someone is about to use the Hellfire or the Spear-uppercut technique. I don't think they should be nerfed. I honestly think a decent Kung Lao/Raiden/Reptile player would make mince meat out of a Scorpion player, it's just characters like Scorpion are easier to pick up but less rewarding to master.

You can see a naked spear coming, and if you avoid it you get a guaranteed 25%+ set up. You can pretty much predict a hell fire any time you duck. Scorpion is really not that hard to beat.

P.s; I use Stryker. He has no teleport. I love fighting scorpions - I could fight them all day and not get bored. Or bodied.

I agree completely that Scorpion is very predicatable online. When PS3 online came back, I hated facing Scorpion ALL THE TIME. But it got to the point that he's now a pretty easy win for me, just because I'm so used to dealing with him now. Same with Smoke, although a skilled Smoke, or a very good Scorpion can still be tough. Average to above average Scorpion and Smoke = no problems.

Why don't they just nerf everyone until all hits and specials including the x-rays only do 1% damage. Then everyone will be on a level playing field and people will stop complaining that "character a" is too powerful or "character b" isn't powerful enough or I don't like it when "character c" does "move x" on me or I don't like it when "character d" spams "move z".

Honestly like every other character people want nerfed I really think online lag is more of a problem then these moves that some consider unfair or cheap. And as others have said scorpions an easy win with a bit of practice

What about removing the whole character from the game? ¬¬

This is ridiculous, people has to try learn how to fight against him and stop whining about his port and fire...

I stopped reading after "Scorpion is too easy to play with."
He's my main.

Perhaps you need a buff as a player.

first of all why are the major points in caps? second of all, why would they nerf him so it only doesn't work against characters without a teleport? you can't do that. if it doesn't work, it doesn't work against everybody.

I totally agree, and you can add Sub-Zero's Ice Slide to item #1.

Of course I can deal with it, no problem, but it's unfair and annoying. It wouldn't hurt to nerf these nonsenses that Scorpion has.

You greatly underestimate the non-teleporters.

I dare a Scorpion player to try and spam Hellfire/spear on an advanced Cage or Liu Kang.

Stryker's bomb toss prevents Scorpion from doing his hellfire, the bomb will hit him if he doesn't block.

Jax is very quick and can get around the playing field easily. Just hop over the Hellfire, block the spear, and go for a Dash Punch.

Sonya's arch kick, nuff said.

I use Kabal against scorpion players and beat them they can spam the hellfire because his buzzsaw is faster and if they jump or teleport the nomad dash can set up a free combo

Agreed. Scorpion stays airborne and punishable after a whiffed teleport for atleast forever (sarcasmmm). It's really a matter of you learning how to block in a more predictable fashion.

I'm assuming you're fighting the average scrub. This is when they'll usually teleport:

-On Wakeup
-After a whiffed Spear or 2/Hellfire
-During a jump when you guys are a screen apart
-On Wakeup (intentional)

Use this knowledge, and help us clear the world of these scrubs!
