My Injustice: Gods Among Us Review

I appreciate your review on it, I disagree with the block button statement, I suppose since I have been playing with and without one since the early 90's I have a hard time understanding this.

Just personally not a fan of it. I noted how some will be fine with it though.

Thanks for reading.

Growing up with Mortal Kombat, back to block is something that I just cannot get the hang of. Im always forgetting to do it

I agree with everything you said, especially the block button. I always find myself pressing R2 to block. Personally I would have liked to have the option to put the block command to a button

Having played fighting games for over 20 years, the block button vs back-to-block doesn't bother me, but being allowed to add one in the controller settings should be an option.

Gameplay overall I thought was uninspired to an extent. While each character sounds and moves in conjunction with their personality and uniqueness, the game, overall, seems more focused on gimmicks and showy/flashy features rather than a solid, deep, yet accessible fighting engine. This is what made MK9 so great. You can pick it up and play easily, but also learn nuances in linking combos, countering, and such. Every character pretty much can do forward+heavy attack (or back+heavy attack) and the combo off that insanely easy without much effort or forethought.

I don't like not having true combo breakers. The Clash system, again, is very over-the-top, wizz-bang eye candy, but nothing more. It can only be used once per match per character when on the second health bar as a "combo breaker"? Really? Ok, so when I'm getting my ass handed to me, I have no choice but to "take it" without the chance of building up meter for a combo breaker? Great.

Then there's the overwhelming unlockable content, STAR Labs, XP points, leveling, key cards, etc, etc ad nausea. Some people think that's great for value and replayability, but I like unlocking content within reason. If I have to spend more time earning rewards to be able to unlock content than playing the game online or with friends, that's an issue. I'll wait a year for the inevitable "Complete Edition" that will have all DLC and on-disc extras pre-unlocked ready-to-use.

Story Mode was fun, campy, and on-par with what I expected it to be in terms of the plot and length. The music throughout the game is simply top notch.

Injustice is a good game, not great, as it tends to try very hard to be more than it needs to be. I think the over focus on gameplay gimmicks like Clash and background interaction/transitions, and over abundance of content that is arduously time consuming to unlock detracts from what should be an outstanding game, not just a "good" game.

Just picked it up in England, haven't played it yet but my mind is blown there is no online pass.

Thats gotta be a fan service right there. Hopefully they realized its not fair to charge people for online when it could potentially turn out like MK9
