Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

OK update on Shang:

I'm having a bit of trouble with sleeve controls partially because I need make more than one bone drive the sleeve. You would think this would be easy compared to the other rigging problems I've had to face while learning. That being said once I figure out how to and sleeve and robe controls, shang should be just about ready for animation. I'm thinking that this will happen within the next week or so.

You aren't using cloth simulation for that?

If you want bones, I'd go with a branching setup and skin to the smaller bones.

You lose major control. Although I'm looking at a solution that makes just the sleeves up the the elbow cloth dyanmics. Then I can slide a dummy up and down the arm for controls. Not sure I understand the branching method I really wanted to use a dummy object instead of an actual bone and skin the sleeves to that. Then parent the dummy to the forearm bone...not working quite how I'd hoped.

Using a parent / child relation ship, you can have a ring of bones toward the end of the sleeves and gradually have less bones at the elbow joint linking that to the forearm bone.

You might have 4 bones controlling the opening of the sleeves and one closer to the elbow.

If you move the bone near the elbow for the sleeves, you'll move all the bones near the opening.

If you need finer control, you can select down the chain to the smaller bone, and use those to deform the cloth more realistically.

I hope you are ready for a challenge MrMos3s

This is just about as close as I could get it. You'll need to use the liquify tool to make it as close as possible. I used your lighting scheme though the hair doesn't shine exactly like we would need. However I'm thinking you can probably paint in the highlights better and faster than I moving lights around and re-rendering.

@Bleed

Thanks for the tips. It all sounds simple until attempt to do it myself. I'm getting some messy results. I'll keep trying until I figure it out.

Thanks calactyte, really needed this, hate to be a debbie downer, but found out yesterday that I'm getting a divorce, so whenever you guys need to throw something at me, I'm ready!

side note on shang: this shouldn't be a problem for me on this portrait, but I think his hair should be about a quarter longer than you have it on your model, incase you need to know this for the sprites. Otherwise, beautiful work.

Sorry to hear about your divorce :(

Just a quite note on Shang, his mustache seems a "hair" too bright in relation to the rest of his hair and his face. Almost as if it's glowing. He looks great although with most of his face in shadow I think it should be a tone darker. Just my $0.02.

Thanks man, and I should be able to make his mustache look good with my edits. We'll see.

Ha ha This likeness is kicking my ass ^^

It would have been so much more easy to make him look like he dose in the curent games ^^

I feel like I keep messing him up and hes looking worse and worse.

Things are lining up but they don't look alike. help please ^^

Sounds great to me QuanChiKiller, It's got a creepy feel to it. Maybe Justin would have a better ear for critique.

@ ErmaSco

Here's the links to the stuff I've posted. I wish there was some way we could have a place where this and all other could be posted permanantly, but alas:

@ Luna and ttas:

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm actually working on the Cavern theme now. Should have something to post very soon! And I use a wide array of digital instruments. A lot of Native Instruments stuff and other various synths. Also any guitars and some of the bass is played by me.

I know the feeling, likeness is not easy.

Are you working on high poly counts, or on the lower levels?

I would move down and get all the lower levels looking pretty close to him. Check some anatomy charts, so you can tell why things should look a certain way. What's making this shape, a bone, muscle, fat???

Look deeper than the picture of the guy, see what's under the skin. Check in the mirror, maybe you'll notice something that'll help.

Really nice job on Shang calactyte. Here's comparison just for fun

Yeah, his hair could be a little longer. And if you wanna go crazy perfectionist mode,
lean his head backwards just a bit, and change the camera angle to the right for a few degrees.
