They should do something like EA's Fight Night series graphicaly. Something more realistic. That's what Mortal Kombat was all about, and that's why it became so popular.
Part of the reason sure, but the major draw card was the excessive gore and violent finishers. Even now it sells in huge amounts, but it's the casual gamers buying it for the gore and fatalities, not so much for the gameplay or visuals.

Seeing a cartoony or low res image brutalised is one thing, but seeing the same with a hi-res super realistic model is way over the top, at least to me. For me MK(9) was at a good level, cartoony enough to not be realistic, but realistic enough that it wasn't too cartoony.

A HD version of MK as what's being created here, still doesn't go over that line to me. Possibly the fact that it's 2D sprites makes it less visceral.

The problem with mk9 was not the graphics or gameplay, see, we All agree mk9 is one of the best km out there, but the models and animations sucks!! The textures are a mess, the shoulder!!! Oh my, those liu kang shoulders, the models looks generic male and generic female, for example check this out!

This game's gameplay might suck but those models look really good, the anatomy look unique for each character, the animations are sweet and smooth, you can feel the weight of the characters!! At least this is what I want in a mk game, I'm pretty sure they can do it, but they are laZy and please don't tell me about the graphic card stuff!! When crysis came out a bought a new PC just to play that game, that's what gamers do!

Hey guys. It's been a while since I know this forum and I'd never registered, but when I found this topic I was completely amazed (I've been checking this thread for some time too, actually before the C&D). I'm totally astonished by your work and I'm always checking on it, you guys are really talented.

At the first glance I really wish to help, then I noticed that the thread was from 2011. You guys have a solid team, don't let anybody screw with it blabbering shit on a 3 (or 4?) years old work. Don't lose focus (specially because I believe you do it in your free time).

It's a shame you got the C&D, but what I really think is that the NRS team would be very impressed with the project, who knows what could happen then...

I see you guys are concerned about the programming. From the very beginning I felt that MUGEN doesn't equals the project standards (although I know very little about it), so you'll need a better game engine. As a programmer I would really like to help you with this, but I think it's probably a work for two. I'm not compromising myself, but there are my notes on the programming topic:

Gameplay depends totally on it - if you guys expect something closer as possible the original (as I've noticed your perfectionism on details), I think there's a lot of other details that influences gameplay to be considered, like
* original frame rate (how to convert it to a better one without losing speed rates, etc)
* hitboxes (I took this name from a PDF of a MK2 hack that was posted here, very well documented), collisions - so that a flying kick can stop an attacking player or not, according to the original, for instance (I guess this is the hardest thing).
* exact interval between a button sequence
* not to mention the IA, which changes in every difficult and with every character
* etc.

It would also be nice to use a multiplataform engine, so that it can be played on other systems as well. And have a future idea for multiplayer support.

Anyway, I wish the best for you and this project, congratz for you all, I'll continue to peek from time to time!

Rock on !!
PS : Sorry for any english mistakes.

Thanks for your support. PM me if you wish to contribute as a programmer or know someone who does. I would think unity could handle an MK1 port but who knows.

That's what i was saying. MK9's Sonya looks like a man.

Another thing that really got me at the time MK1 and 2 came out was that aura of horror and mistery. It's something the game doesn't have anymore, and i'm sure that's due to the fact that the character models are cartoonish and the way they tell the story now is kinda silly.

You just have to compare the original Baraka with the new one. His eyes being all dark, and the lack of talk made him terrifying at the time(in fact all of them didn't say anything and that was, to me, very important for that misterious feeling).

Now they try too hard to make him look monstruous, but ends up being something a child would think it's scary.

The gameplay in that DBZ game also looks really solid for a MUGEN game.

I just downloaded and played it and it's EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, even on the easiest difficulty settings.

Just like every mugen game I've ever played

Hopefully MKHD remix doesn't suffer from the same fate and has decent AI

I find they've made Baraka into an idiot goon, now. The models are also way too muscular. They look more like DC super heroes in MK9.

they are not just muscular... the anatomy is wrong!! is like they had plenty of time to work in other aspects of the game... wich I think is awesome but when they got to the models they rushed things up.
